Nova Zaiden I personally had mixed feelings but I was curious to what people thought about certain events and not like the book in general.

And the things people didn't mention in their reviews is something I'd be curious about.

Like something I didn't mention in my review was that I like Xander better than Ky. Feel free to look at my review and tell me if you agree with me?

I'm not trying to advertise, I'm just really curious about other people's personal opinions...

Mimi ❤ I hate this book with a scorching passion :( SO underdeveloped in every imaginable way

Nova Zaiden I have a bunch of opinions about this book but I don't want to offend Matched fans which is why I asked to read the review... But yes, I agree with you in a way.

Amber Did not like it. Its like with alot ya books I read. I wanted to like it which is why I got through the whole book but. . . . (shudder). It was just not good.

Dawn I liked it enough to try out the next in the series. I just started it, so we shall see.

Haley It wasnt horrible i have read worse but i still just couldnt get into it,but i did love Ky

Elliegrace this was the first book ive stopped reading in the middle i just didnt like it at all one of my best friends loves this book to pieces but to me it was just not good at all

Myka It was kinda boring and thrilling at the same time. still, it was a little obvious.

Courtney The book was good but very predictable

Mia;emma was i the only one who completly enjoyed it?

seems so.
it wasnt that bad,but ive read a lot worse O . o

Linda B.D. I loved it & ordered teh last 2 books. Why did I love it so much- because I coul see our world ending up like that in the future. Total control. It was just like that in another country not that far back.

message 12: by Jada (new) - rated it 5 stars

Jada I loved it, I've got the other two coming soon!

Ilana i actually enjoyed this story. i felt like it was a new take on dystopian for lack of a better categorization. i like that there was the big brother element along with the caste system that we see in so many others - yet how we got to the real story and the relationship element - that was new and i appreciated it. i read through this book 1 pretty quickly and anticipated crossed. that one let me down just a little bit - i really enjoyed it, but i feel like there wasn't as much anticipation and build up. hopefully book 3 that comes out in a few weeks will remind us/me of what i loved best about this series

message 14: by Dana (new) - rated it 4 stars

Dana It was ok. Not really what I'm used to, and kinda ended with a cliff hanger. (I don't remember, I haven't read it in a while, and i've read so many more books since then, so...) BUT I thought it was pretty good. Again, not really my thing, but it was interesting. The story kept me guessing trying to figure out what happened and stuff. You know, and her being matched with her best friend, awkward, but cute! :D i kinda thought they were cute together on the way to the thing anyways... :P

Yeah, I love Matched and Crossed, and frankly, I can't wait for Reached. I love the concept and the poetry, it has inspired me. It's not an action-filled book, but it was one of the most beautiful books I've ever read. I think the books were cleverly written so that when not a lot happened, you were still kept interested because of the way she writes and what goes through Cassia's and Ky's heads. And the world they live in is fascinating to me. Sad if you didn't enjoy it :( each to there own.
Kudos to Ally Condie!

Tabitha I think Xander was PERFECT for Cassia and am disappointed that she fell for Ky.:( But I still kind of liked the book. I'm really anxious to read Crossed!:)

Mello Melina I AGREE WITH YOU!!! in the begining it was okay then as i continued reading it was really WTF!!!!!

Heather I wasn't impressed w/ Matched. Crossed was much better. I waiting to read Reached. Stick w/ it.

Jessica K I really like the book, but there was one thing that made me mad. When she decided that she wanted to be with Ky and not Xander to be honest that made me mad cause I think that Xander is perfect for her. Other than that I loved the book and I cant wait to read the other two. The book really is for The Hunger Games and Twilight fans because it is like those two books. I love how Ally Condie kept up the suspence through out the book and she kept it detailed. It takes a alot to find a book that I will really enjoy and I was hooked on this book right away!

Amber I read this book because it said, 'fans of the hunger games will like this book!' But it was not like it to me at all. The idea was fine but the story was not, not good.

I will not read the other books.

Lyn Ngo Honestly, I wasn't impressed with the romance in the story. Ky makes me want to peel my skin off!! Xander was perfect for Cassia and then she meets Ky and chose him instead, Arggghhhh!

Michael Starhyphen wrote: "I love the concept and the poetry, it has inspired me. It's not an action-filled book, but it was one of the most beautiful books I've ever read."

I totally agree. The writing is what drew me into the book, and I felt myself wanting to read more regardless of what was happening or not happening.

Courtney wrote: The book was good but very predictable

I actually thought the opposite, at least where Cassie was concerned. But that was a bad thing, because the reason I couldn't predict her actions was because I had no idea what her motivation was. And that was also what bothered me about the Ky vs Xander choices. Okay, I guess Ky is the correct choice if she wants to be a part of a secret network to undermine the Society. And Xander is the correct choice if she thinks the Society is benevolent and she believes in loyalty to her family/friends. But which is it? We don't even have enough information about what the Society is doing to even decide that for ourselves, let alone to determine what Cassie would do. It was very frustrating.

Ashley H. I personally loved it. This books was a twist on a love story and a dystopian society.

Shweta it was a really slow slow read i enventually finished it.

C.P. Lesley Shweta wrote: "it was a really slow slow read i enventually finished it."

Fascinating. I read it in three hours. Could not put it down.

I didn't like Crossed as much, but I am looking forward to Reached.

Jolene I think that this book was wonderful. I personally loved it. I couldn't put it down for long.

message 33: by Zoe (new) - rated it 3 stars

Zoe Taurus I think that it wasn't bad but The Giver is a much better take on this kind of story

Stephania i really liked matched and crossed. im really looking forward to readind reached. i think matched was a great book and i really enjoyed it! i couldnt put it down for long. it is such a page turner. i just couldnt stop.

Caralin Mia;emma wrote: "was i the only one who completly enjoyed it?

NOO I LOVED THE BOOK!!! IT was soo AWESOME! YOU NOT ALONE!!

Michael Kaylee wrote: "I didnt really like it that much. Its a pretty good plot, but Cassia (protagonist) is really shallow... the "love" feels forced and false"

That was my impression. Although in Matched I actually liked that they didn't fall in love at first sight, (it was unclear with Ky, maybe he did). But as they spent more time together, it was not clear to me what the love would be based on. Ky seemed to be mysterious and rebellious, while Cassia was not rebellious, she was even upset with her father just for obeying her grandfather's rebellious request. So all that was left was the mystery and the secrecy, and that is not enough to build a relationship on. If Cassia had been actually developed as a character, then it would have been a much better book. (Unless of course it became obvious she was making bad decisions; I hate those kinds of books!)

Sarah Tubs Such a good book do not listen to the negativity surrounding it! great characters and interesting plot!

i wanted to like this book, it sounded great! but it disappointed me

Michael It had a nice cover and a intriguing plot but it fell flat on so many areas.

Hannah I'm not a fan of this book. It's sad, because I liked the premise of this book, but it did not live up to my expectations. The plot was extremely boring, and it felt like there was no climax whatsoever. The characters were so shallow. It felt to me Cassia had no real personality. Then, both Xander and Ky were such cookie-cutter characters - Xander, the loving, sweet, loyal childhood best friend, and Ky, the new, mysterious, emo, moody boy that has a dark past but apparently a soft, sweet side, which he only shows to Cassia. The author tried to pretend it was a mystery who Cassia was going to choose, but I knew just reading the jacket of the book, before I read one single word inside, that she was going to choose Ky. Their relationship didn't make much sense to me. So she just randomly loves him because his face popped up on the screen? How come she never thought about him before that? It was just forced.

This book... just not that creative. I'm sure everyone has heard this comparison, but the world here seems heavily borrowed from The Giver. So nothing new there. I did not find the characters very likable. The plot mostly included Cassia thinking about how unfair her society is (another thing - it's quite unrealistic she appears to be the only person who has ever second-guessed the system) and mooning over Ky. Another complaint I have is that the style of this book was very boring. The language was bland and just made the book hard to read.

I don't really understand the hype over this book.

I really liked this book! Are we some of the only ones? I loved the way it was written. I enjoyed the problem, Cassia, Xander, and Ky. The way the Society was run interested me and everything people could and couldn't do. May we give this book another chance?

Elisa i love this book...it's my favourite!!!!

I agree with you, I really liked it, and I liked Crossed, I bought Reached but I havent read it yet.

message 44: by [deleted user] (new)

Well. To me, it wasn't all that great. :\ T-T
I guess it's cause I had more high expectations? Reading that review that says, "Like the Giver but sexier" thing? Well, didn't enjoy it, but I used this book as an inspiration--the parts that I like, reflect on it, and then the parts that I didn't like, reflect on it, etc.--so, yea. I have mixed feelings on it as well. :\

Wendy I think the society that the author developed is really interesting and creative, I love how she designed it flawless, and the characters survive in the society. It is cool how the character was rebellious by hiding the poems and falling in love with another guy other than her mate that the society assigned for her. I like this book, probably less than I like The Hunger Games, but I look forward to read the second and third book in this series.

Maggie i loved this book! it shows us that the government can be awful but if we want to change it we can! this book shows that you should never give up. but have fun with what you have!!! :D

message 47: by Meg (new) - rated it 4 stars

Meg I enjoyed this one more than I expected to. I actually read the sample and wasn't that interested at first. I decided to give it a go when all the hype over the third coming out began. I read it yesterday when I was home sick from work. While I agree with many of the points made here about being flat love and such, I ultimately enjoyed the book. I've got myself on the list at the library for the next two.

I also am annoyed that she picked Ky. I feel like she only picked Ky because that meant she wasn't going with the approved match. But Xander happens to be perfect for her anyway, so I feel like she chose Ky out of rebellion. Xander's love is much more real to me.

The society in the book captivated me. The "what if" factor just gets you thinking.

Overall, I enjoyed it, but wouldn't say it was amazing.

Rylee I LOVED THIS BOOK! I love dystopia novels and love stories so this was one of my favorites. :)

If you enjoyed reading this book, go check out Delirium by Lauren Oliver. :)

Hayleigh Larrosa I really enjoyed this book. Although I feel that that characters have been somewhat under developed and that the society is overly typical for a "Utopia" I still enjoyed it. I found this book to be an easy read with very little intellectual content so it was my lazy read :)

It just felt unoriginal-I mean, Dystopia books are great, but-I'm just getting sick of the same story line repeating over and over in most of these series.
YOU DONT NEED A LOVE TRIANGLE FOR A SERIES TO BE INTERESTING.
And you certainly dont need to follow the outline of every other hit book out there. i don't know why, but I wasn't very fond of this book.
The characters where very underdeveloped and nobody had much motive for anything in the book-also, I was left confused with the end of the last book (view spoiler)
