I've decided not to vote for the politicos who bother me with phone calls!!!

THE NERVE OF THEM!

(Had to get this out off my chest! Gr-r-r-!)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Yes, Joy, we hate them too. We're getting good at picking up the phone & just hanging up. I've thought of emailing the politicians & telling them I won't vote for them if they call my phone, but haven't gotten around to it, yet. I probably should & then post the addresses on Facebook, so everyone can do the same.

Marg said we got 4 calls yesterday from Card Services. They say they protect your credit card, but we're on the do not call list & I've asked them to remove us numerous times. Of course they don't.

Marg found out that we can block numbers that don't have a Caller ID number. It's *77 on our phone, I think. Then we got another one from them & she tried to block the number & after going through a frustrating maze of people & robots, was finally told by a voice robot that the number couldn't be blocked.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, the culprits seem to find a way to get around the "do-not-call" laws.
We are sitting ducks.

Jim (jimmaclachlan) One problem is the ability for VoIP (Voice over IP) systems to fake the phone number they report to caller ID. A friend of mine had to change her phone number because of irate phone calls from people.

We can't trust anything anymore. What is the world coming to?

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Wonders never cease! I just got a robocall which was taking a survey.
It gave me the option to participate in the survey OR to be put on their "DO-NOT-CALL-LIST".
Guess which option I took!

I wish all robocalls would give me that option!

Perhaps all robocalls should be outlawed! I wonder if that could be a possibility.

Perhaps I should write to my government representatives about this.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Below is a link to an article which addresses the issue of robocalls:
http://www.cnn.com/2012/10/19/tech/mo...
TITLE: "Hate illegal robocalls? FTC offers $50,000 to help stop them"
================================================
EXCERPTS:
"To address the robocall problem, the FTC announced a contest at the Summit to find technological ways to curb illegal robocalls. The FTC Robocall Challenge challenges the public to suggest plans to block illegal robocalls on landlines and mobile phones.
...
"For now, here's what to do if you get an unsolicited commercial phone call -- whether a robocall or from a live person:

1. Hang Up. Do not press 1 or any other numbers to get off the list.

2. Consider blocking the number.

3. File a complaint with DoNotCall.gov. It helps, but isn't necessary, to have the number from which the call was initiated.

"Remember that political and get-out-the-vote robocalls are legal, so there's no point in filing complaints about these with DoNotCall.gov. However if these calls really annoy you, then you might consider complaining about them to your government representatives."
================================================

STORY HIGHLIGHTS
"The volume of illegal robocalls is increasing in the U.S.
"Federal Trade Commission held a Robocall Summit to address problem."
"The FTC is offering $50,000 prize for the best idea for blocking robocalls."

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Wonderful, Joy. Thanks. I reposted it on Facebook.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments That's good, Jim. I hope that spreading the word on Facebook will help the drive against robocalls.

Jackie (thelastwolf) | 4050 comments Everyone hates them. They're actually insulting, like we don't even rank high enough to get a real person calling.

I've been plagued by them. Yesterday it was a number I didn't recognize so I answered in a snotty tone and was going to say Stop Calling Me, but it was my friend Lara calling from work. We had a laugh over the reason for my rudeness, lol

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jackie, I've done the same thing (answered the phone with an annoyed tone), only to find it's a friend or relative. Then you have to explain yourself. LOL

Yesterday I got a political "survey call" from a real person. I was surprised. I told him I didn't like getting political phone calls and asked him to take my number off his list.

Another time I got a call asking me to stay on the line (or do something like it) if I wanted to talk to someone about the candidate, or it could have been the local candidate himself. I can't remember.

They are taking democracy a little too far! LOL

message 12: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) Ditto with being rude when picking up the phone. I got a political survey call the other day. I told him I take points off annoying political calls & the guy hung up. I don't know who he represented & I'm fine with that.

Joy H. (joyofglensfalls) | 16697 comments Jim, that was a great thing to say to the caller!
Maybe they'll think about that!

MOTTO:
If you annoy me on the phone,
You'll find my vote for you has flown!

Someone should write a song using those lyrics! LOL

More lines:
And if you make my telephone ring,
You will never be the King! :)

message 14: by Jim (new)

Jim (jimmaclachlan) LOL! I'll have to recite that for the next one, Joy.
