Pride & Prejudice: Who wants to join me in a read/reread?

Yes, we are sort of loosely staying within the boundaries of 2 chapters a day. A slow read, and sharing of ideas, considering the language can be difficult for most of us.
Yes, chapter 7 -8 will work today.

I personally enjoyed the book so much better than the movie. But I did watch both versions, and I think the one with Colin Firth is better. Although, the other Darcy was much more appealing looks wise.
But back to the book - I don't know why but I find Darcy's arrogance appealing. I can't really imagine him being interesting any other way. He's a man of great importance and wealth, he can't act like a wuss lol.

I just realized I only read half of chapter 6 yesterday. The girl that was talking to Mr. Darcy at the end of Chapter 6 is Miss Bingley, one of Bingley's sisters.

It's like she started talking before the author said who was talking. That's why I found it confusing.
I liked the movie, so that should mean the book gets better! lol

I can't also help noticing the little hints the author is dropping in the way Darcy is starting to see Elizabeth...very subtle, but its there.
"The former(meaning Darcy) was divided between admiration of the brilliancy which exercise had given to her complexion, and doubt as to the occasion's justifying her coming so far alone."

Also for the Bingleys, he has 2 sister but only one who is unmarried which is Caroline. The married one is called 'Mrs. Hurst'.

Finished Chapter 8, and I can only be aghast at the world this people live in. Such snobbery and artificiality. How they can be nice to the same person, and then talked bad about her, once she is out of earshot.

There were a few times in the movie where they introduced all the girls as Miss Bennett. I'm thinking of when Jane was sick and visiting, Lizzie came to see her, and then all the rest of the sisters and the mother were introduced at once to take them home. Does tend to get a tad confusing though doesn't it.
Now that I watched the movie today, I'm anxious to pick the book back up again and see if it makes more sense now.

shew = show
chuse = choose
Anyone know what a loo table is? They were playing cards. (The only loo I have heard of is slang for a british toilet. lol)
Reading tomorrow's chapters early. This is from the end of Chapter 10. I've reread it numerous times but don't understand the first part of the sentence:
"You used us abominably ill," answered Mrs. Hurst, "in running away without telling us that you were coming out."

How about the rest? What chapters are you in? Just checking in.

So is the book getting better for you?"
Yes, but mostly because I was able to figure out the plot from the movie. Even then, there were a couple lines in the movie that I didn't get. (One the director translates in the movie commentary.)

I didn't realize that Elizabeth has several interests in men. hehe..

So far, this much, I can say, it must be hard living with Elizabeth's family. I would probably die a thousand deaths in embarassment at her mother's antics.
I also find the subtle changes in Elizabeth and Darcy's characters fascinating, how Lizzie instinctively defended him in a conversation, and his refusal to now speak ill of her during conversation with Miss Bingley.
Now, to continue reading...LOL..pesky thing like a "job" keeps interrupting..LOL

What I did is create a folder in my email just for it, and just transferred the daily emails there, and when I have some free time at work, then I read.

Also, I can definitely understand Elizabeth's reaction to Mr. Collins' pursuit of her. There is just something icky when a guy you are not interested in is pursuing you, and you still have to be polite about it. *shudders*

I find one thing odd that sisters will talk about their parent by using 'My father or My mother' to each other. Whenever, I read the conversation between Jane and Lizzie. Is that odd?

But it's cool that you guys are continuing on. I really want to do the reread, but when I'm home I prefer to read my challenge books..LOL..

Yeah.. I guess it's the whole formal thing.
I just dislike Mrs. Bennett a lot. I feel like she is very shallow but then it seems most of the women in that period were the same. All she thought about was marriage for her daughters!

..."
I agree that Mrs. Bennett was annoying, but she only thought about marrying her daughters off because she wanted them provided for. During that time, land and wealth couldn't be passed to daughters. If they didn't get married, they would essentially be homeless and poor.
She herself married for love, and Mr. Bennett didn't have money. She was trying to help her daughters to have a better life than she had.
I can understand her reasoning behind her behavior, but she was still quite an overbearing character.

Still, she does have her girls' interests in her heart.

************** SPOILER **************************
I found that it's also weird that when Lydia ran away and Mrs. Bennett was worrying about if Lydia will have nice outfit for her wedding. Talking about perspective. :)

Today is Chapter 7 & 8. We started last saturday and those with dailylit set it up to receive 2 chapters a day. I'm keeping up with them in my regular book. Even though I find the language confusing, I can take 5 minutes to read 2 short chapters a day to keep up. Of course, nothing says you can't sprint ahead in your reading if you get into it Amy.
