Feeling Nostalgic? The archives
>
Why do guys lie so much?> Lesbians, Dogs, and Robots> Ames is not a troll> We love encyclopedias!
I'm not trying to be disrespectful. Its just hard for people of my age to imagine life without it. No google, no you tube? Maybe it has been a bad thing because people don't have to be so creative now in order to get entertainment.

Turn off my phone and go for a walk!?!
Where?
Where can you go nowdays and not have some kind of information/commnication presence felt?
The influence of the technology runs deep. I may go for a walk, but everyone I pass has their nose buried in some electronic device.

I don't disagree, but I don't see it as that simple. In the city it's nearly impossible to go for a walk without the intrusion of information/communication and technology, and it's getting more and more difficult out in the suburbs and parks as well. We have some beautiful parks here, places that are so well maintained they almost border on magical, but it's still not uncommon to hear a plane fly overhead, or a car horn, or, in passing, another walker's tinny headphones, or worst of all, someone walking and talking on their phone.

Its getting to the point that unless you want to go live in a cave in the woods like the Unibomber or something, then you are gong to have numerous enteractions with electronical information devices all day long, every day!
And jJust image what it will be like in 50 or 100 years?

Mitzi Message 63: @ Zardoz. You sound like you hate the internet or something -lol!
I'm just glad I can't remember what the world was like before the internet. It has always been there in my life. It must have been weird back in the old days when you elders didn't have it.
Zardoz Message 72: Amelia, I don't hate the Internet but I do confess to hating mankind. ;)
Not sure what else it could mean, Bun.

Bun, I agree with the rest though. I can unplug myself and enjoy life and the outdoors without having to find a place on the planet that resembles the bronze age. As long as
I
am unplugged, that's what matters.
Oh, no, sorry. I wasn't crying, because I think she hates me! Just that she posted to me in response to a comment from MITZI the Troll!
Mistake me for Heidi, Sallers, You...pretty much anyone else, thanks.

I guess to her; I might be new...

You've been around on GR way longer than most of the folks I know on here. I can vouch for that, Ames. :)
Holy crap, I'm changing my Avatar IMEDIATELY!

I can still remember the smell of the closet where we keep the Encyclopedias. I plagiarized the crap out of those things.
Mmmm, I remember we had a good set and the set that I was allowed to cut up to use for reports! I loved those encyclopedias!

Its funny, but plagiarizing, intellectual property, music sampling don't seem to matter to my generation like they do to the older generations. I think my generation realizes that we are all connected now. It doesn't matter who the information "belongs" to. What matters is that the information is easy to get at.

I hope you never try to make a living from your own creative output.

Ed/Mitzi, I'm not sure you understand the word "funny"
What makes you think that I feel "plagiarizing, intellectual property, music sampling" matters more or less than you do? I'm pretty sure I just admitted to doing it. I've downloaded the crap out of some music and movies too...illegally. Shhh!

This is sad. Ever been camping?

Well, I am not a typical example of my generation. I mostly read books from authors from older generations. And I mostl listen to music from artists from older generations.
And I don't watch much TV at all. But I will be watching the Presidental debate tonight. I am one of the few voters in America who is still undecided. I'm interested in hearing Romney explain his economic plan a little better.

No criticism of your posting, Z. I just wasn't the one who posted that to you. It was Mitzi.

Ah, I see. Please accept my apologies, that was a gross oversight on my part."
I must have missed this part of the thread. Did I post something that got Z upset? If I did, I didn't do it on purpose.
Btw Z, you have a message board? Is it here on Good Reads? Would it be okay if I came and joined. I'm really not a troll even though I am often accused of being one. I just say weird things sometimes and people seem to get bent out of shape over them. But I never say anything to intentionally hurt someone. If someone is attacking me or accusing me, then I might defend myself, but generally I just ignore them.

Amen.
Mitzi, go ask a blogger who is a member of your generation what it feels like to have her work stolen. It sucks no matter how old you are.

HA!
HA!

It’s not necessary at all and I agree with you that it's our responsibility to find a mental space free of the intrusions. I’ve learned to tune everything out when I’m out for a walk, whether it’s at a park or just around the block, and I enjoy myself. And I suppose there are people in the places I walk who might feel that my putzing with a camera and the clicks of the shutter is technology intruding on their enjoyment but that's their issue to deal with and tune out. I was just commenting in response to the earlier comment that it’s difficult to go places nowadays where the influence of technology isn’t felt. We're plugged in everywhere.

We can be, but we don't have to be. I can go for a walk in the park, and have people go past me that are plugged in, but that doesn't mean I am, anymore than I am playing the ultimate frisbee game that I walk by.

I love you, sister Jammies.
Plagiarism sucks.

Next time I see you go by I'll ask you to join in. Even if you're not comfortable running with us, you can, at a minimum, set a pick here and there.

I hope you never try to make a living from your own creative output.
Amen.

I love you too, and I love Bun for thinking about copyright issues.
