A Song of Ice and Fire series
Good idea Dan. I have the first season of True Blood on DVD but I haven't watched it yet. I hope to get A Game of Thrones soon. I also like Boardwalk Empire. Man, HBO sure has some awesome shows! Lol

So we're in the same boat, Yay!
I have never seen the Game of Thrones show, either..

Does it? Oh, how awesome! Now I'm really looking forward to reading the books and seeing the show! :-D

Yes, Michelle, I have read the first Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead Until Dark, which Season 1 was based off of. I have not read the rest of the books yet though. Have you read them?

1) Don't get attached to characters. GRRM is notorious for killing off folks when you least expect it. "This is known."
2) Who you hate today, will have your sympathy later... no matter how much you want to hate them.
3) Don't underestimate yourself with the size of the books. Concentrate on the houses and what they stand for. There are truly only a handful of main characters. As their flunkies come in to play; you will be able to follow closely because GRRM writes so fluidly.
4) Get the family tree offline; it does help initially.
5) GRRM has maps in front and back of his books, AND he has each house broken down from the head of house to the lowly members.
6) ENJOY!!

It is okay to toss, throw or chuck the book if you "accidently" become attached to someone or Cersei pisses you off. It is completely understandable and will make you feel like you are contributing to the "games."
HHehehhehe :D
You're awesome, Alondra!! Thank you so much for your truly invaluable insight!
And indeed, GRRM takes the adage, "Kill your darlings," to a level all his own!

I knew you would understand... :D

wow; yeah he does do that... to no end! He then leaves the dregs and makes the reader rethink their position.. mmmmm

I've read all of them so far and I'm looking forward to the final instalment. The earlier ones were definitely my favourites. If you haven't watched the other seasons yet, I recommend reading the books first. I enjoyed the books more before I started watching the TV series.

I'm not exactly sure, Victor. I think we'll be reading Joyland (which comes out in May, I believe, if you all are interested, that is,) and the buddy read of ASOIAF should follow shortly thereafter.

I have these ebooks that I can share. Even if you don't have an ereader, you can read it on a computer. Meryl (or anyone else) just PM me your email if you would like them. :)
I realize that the buddy read isn't supposed to start until after the publication of Joyland, but I recently picked up a copy of A Dance With Dragons, which got me thinking about the rest of this AMAZING series, and I'm afraid I couldn't restrain myself. I just had to get started with Thrones!!
I truly hope that I haven't upset or offended anyone.. Let me know, please.
