As of now, yes, there are 5, but I think there are supposed to be 7 in all.

Good idea Dan. I have the first season of True Blood on DVD but I haven't watched it yet. I hope to get A Game of Thrones soon. I also like Boardwalk Empire. Man, HBO sure has some awesome shows! Lol

Dan (dan2345) | 7 comments Michelle wrote: "I love True Blood! Have you read the books?"

Yes, Michelle, I have read the first Sookie Stackhouse book, Dead Until Dark, which Season 1 was based off of. I have not read the rest of the books yet though. Have you read them?

message 116: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller Warning on GoT series:
1) Don't get attached to characters. GRRM is notorious for killing off folks when you least expect it. "This is known."
2) Who you hate today, will have your sympathy later... no matter how much you want to hate them.
3) Don't underestimate yourself with the size of the books. Concentrate on the houses and what they stand for. There are truly only a handful of main characters. As their flunkies come in to play; you will be able to follow closely because GRRM writes so fluidly.
4) Get the family tree offline; it does help initially.
5) GRRM has maps in front and back of his books, AND he has each house broken down from the head of house to the lowly members.
6) ENJOY!!

message 117: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller One last tip:

It is okay to toss, throw or chuck the book if you "accidently" become attached to someone or Cersei pisses you off. It is completely understandable and will make you feel like you are contributing to the "games."

HHehehhehe :D

You're awesome, Alondra!! Thank you so much for your truly invaluable insight!

And indeed, GRRM takes the adage, "Kill your darlings," to a level all his own!

I've read all of them so far and I'm looking forward to the final instalment. The earlier ones were definitely my favourites. If you haven't watched the other seasons yet, I recommend reading the books first. I enjoyed the books more before I started watching the TV series.

I'm not exactly sure, Victor. I think we'll be reading Joyland (which comes out in May, I believe, if you all are interested, that is,) and the buddy read of ASOIAF should follow shortly thereafter.

message 136: by Janie (new)

Janie Johnson That works perfectly for me!

message 137: by Meryl (new)

Meryl (crossconnect) | 15 comments This one's a page turner! I am done with book one! I don't think I can set my hands on the next :( Do you guys know any websites that allow you to read online for free?

message 138: by Janie (new)

Janie Johnson Meryl any libraries you could visit?

message 139: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller what about online libraries? You may have to hit Goodwill or a used book store... :/

message 140: by Janie (new)

Janie Johnson I agree Alondra, most place that allow you to read online are just like sneak peeks, which means a chapter or two or they are the classics.

I have these ebooks that I can share. Even if you don't have an ereader, you can read it on a computer. Meryl (or anyone else) just PM me your email if you would like them. :)

I realize that the buddy read isn't supposed to start until after the publication of Joyland, but I recently picked up a copy of A Dance With Dragons, which got me thinking about the rest of this AMAZING series, and I'm afraid I couldn't restrain myself. I just had to get started with Thrones!!

I truly hope that I haven't upset or offended anyone.. Let me know, please.
