The Talisman is definitely up there on my list of all-time favorite books, too. But more than that, I'm really looking forward to Black House, since I've only read it once and it's been since its initial publication. I remember very little of it, just bits and pieces..

So just out of curiosity, is anyone still interested in a buddy read of ASOIAF? If so, when would be a good time to get started? It doesn't have to be right away or anything, I'm just trying to get an idea of when and the interested parties.

message 57: by Kathy (new)

Kathy (bookgoddess1969) I read Game of Thrones last year, but will jump in w/ A Clash of Kings when you guys are up to it. :)

message 58: by Stefan (new)

Stefan Yates (stefan31) I too have read Game of Thrones recently, but would also like to get involved on a group read. I haven't read any of the rest of the series, but I do own them all so have been meaning to read them for a while. The group read would be the kick in the pants that I need.

Sounds great, Kathy!

Stefan- it's wonderful to see you here, my friend.:) You definitely MUST read the rest of the series, they are awesome, IMO!

message 60: by Stefan (new)

Stefan Yates (stefan31) Oh, I plan to. It's the time commitment that has held me back.

message 61: by Dustin (new)

Dustin | 1195 comments Mod
Yeah, that's certainly understandable.

message 65: by Dustin (new)

Dustin | 1195 comments Mod
I have no idea, either. Maybe this spring after Joyland..?

message 66: by Holly (new)

Holly | 745 comments Mod
This spring sounds like it could work for me. :-)

message 67: by Dustin (new)

Dustin | 1195 comments Mod
Okay. Cool. I could set up a poll if you'd like, asking when the best time would work for those interested...?

message 68: by Holly (new)

Holly | 745 comments Mod
Sure, if you want to! A very good suggestion :-)

message 74: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 54 comments Perfect timing as I picked up book #1 at a thrift store upon a friends recommendation. I have had a difficult time getting started, but will make more of an effort:)!

message 75: by Dustin (new)

Dustin | 1195 comments Mod
Wow, sounds great, Kristen!:) I'm very happy to have you here with us!!

message 76: by Alondra (new)

Alondra Miller I started A Dance With Dragons last night. I love this series and will jump in at times as you guys read. It is such an awesome series, the pages will really fly by. If you have read the first or 2nd books, then catch the series on HBO. It follows closely. If book 1 catches you struggling, check the series out and it helps a bunch with the characters... :)

message 77: by Kristen (new)

Kristen | 54 comments Thanks for the info Alondra! Just started book 1 and was a little lost. I will try & watch the series to help me get the characters straight.

once you have the main characters down; the secondary characters come easily enough. before you know it, you will have favorites, those you hate so much that you want them beheaded, and those you just want to slap silly. :D

That's a great point, book-sister. I never really struggled with the characters (except for maybe a little at the beginning,) but I definitely understand it. There are a ton of characters to keep track of. But much of why I didn't struggle is because they're all distinct.

message 80: by Janie (new)

Janie Johnson I would love to join in on this one. I guess we will see what happens. I have to get the books first lol.

message 81: by Janie (new)

Janie Johnson Ok so y'all win, I just ordered the set Books 1-4 from Amazon and got a great deal. I will be sure to vote on the time.

message 82: by Lee (new)

Lee (leeshirk) | 101 comments I am still in for this, been wanting to read them for a while. So time doesn't matter to me I will squeeze them in whenever. LOL

message 83: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) I ordered the first book a few weeks ago and it just arrived - I'm a little daunted at how fat they are and how small the writing is but I'm really looking forward to reading them :)

message 84: by Janie (new)

Janie Johnson LOL Michelle that made me giggle because I sometimes feel the same way!

message 85: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) haha Glad I'm not the only one!

message 86: by Dan (new)

Dan (dan2345) | 7 comments I bought A Song of Ice and Fire by George R.R. Martin back when I was Christmas shopping back in December. I can't wait to read that series. I've heard it's like an "R-rated Lord of the Rings".

message 87: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) hahaha well the TV series certainly is! Have you seen it Dan?

message 88: by Dan (new)

Dan (dan2345) | 7 comments Actually, no, Michelle. I have not seen it. Unfortunatley I don't get HBO. I know people that watch it though and they've told me it's really good. Perhaps if I really get into the books I will buy the series on DVD.

message 89: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) Oh that's a bummer Dan - I absolutely LOVE it! Can't wait for the new season.

message 90: by Dan (new)

Dan (dan2345) | 7 comments It is kind of a bummer I guess. I like to watch True Blood and that's an HBO series. I just the show on DVD. If I like the books I'll buy Game of Thrones on DVD.

message 91: by Bajen (new)

Bajen Hi all, I just finished book 1 and loved it, I might be obsessed with it:D. I intend to start book 2 soon and would join the discussions. I am also looking forward to watching the series as well.

message 92: by Shell (new)

Shell (shellcampbell) I love True Blood! Have you read the books?

message 96: by Janie (new)
