For me the film 'A Single Man' (2009) directed by Tom Ford and starring Colin Firth, was way better than the book by Christopher Isherwood. The script was a tightly edited and it was beautifully filmed by Eduard Grau. Although the book is good it does tend to ramble a bit and throw in asides that aren't really relevant to the basic plot. It is rare for a film to successfully portray an inner monologue but this one does due to some clever plot situations and subtle acting by Firth.
