Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I didn't like the Dante Valentine books either. I think her writing is bad and Dante has the hugest chip on her shoulder.

message 302: by [deleted user] (new)

@Zeenat - Really? A Chip on her shoulder? And all this time I just thought she was a hunchback! ;-)

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments Alright . . . more like a boulder. LOL

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 457 comments Ahh, I liked the Dante Valentine series. Yeah, I'll agree about the angsty stuff and the boulder. But I liked the twist that Saintcrow gave to the genre. It's also the only series of hers that I did like. Don't even go near Steelflowers...argh...!

message 305: by [deleted user] (new)

I read the Dante series three times - mostly because I kept thinking I had to have missed something due to the terrible ending. It turns out I didn't miss anything, and the ending was still terrible. I still don't know if she had feelings for Jaf and the girl at the end, or if she was just hanging out in a vegetative state because it was all she had left to do with her life. I guess what stills throws me off on this is how she only referred to him as "the Demon" at the end of the last book.

I have read a few of her series; some don't make much sense to me. I have actually read DV a couple of times ... the thing between her and Jace irritates the hell out of me. She auto thinks he failed no second chances even if he had no control over it and did it so she could stay breathing.
There are a lot of things in that series that just make me plain sad. Character growth my butt.
I had started reading her Jill Kismet series and totally did not finish it (last 2 books) I don't offend easy at all, but her dropping the f bomb all of the time and her view on everything was just tiring.
She is not a awful author, but she bounces around too much series wise and does not finish one before going to another.

It has been a while since I read it again and your comment about the end is so right. Feels like you are missing something huh?
This silly stuff about ending a series and not tying up loose ends and "leaving it to the reader" to think of what happened is total bunk.

message 308: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I just don't think she's a good writer.

message 309: by Kathy (new)

Kathy Davie (kathydavie) | 457 comments Oh, I forgot about her Jill Kismet series. I liked that one too although I didn't like the series ending either. Too much left up in the air

Diane (FriskyVamp) | 372 comments Just finished Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet all I can say is WOW REYES

Going into my kindle to see what to read next.

message 311: by Diane (new)

Diane (FriskyVamp) | 372 comments I will be reading Hunters and Prey by Katie Salidas.
It's strange that goodreads doesn't recognize this book but it has the 1st and 3rd. If your at all interested which you should be you can find out about it on Amazon. The 1st book is Immortalis Carpe Noctem and the 3rd book is called Pandora's Box, or just look up the author.

message 312: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Diane - Hunters & Prey is here. It was probably coz of the "&" instead of the "and" that you could not find it.

So.. Abt Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet.. I already have my copy of the book. I should just hurry up and read it?

message 313: by Diane (new)

Diane (FriskyVamp) | 372 comments I put it in both ways cause I thought the same thing.

message 314: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I've started reading Bitter Night (Horngate Witches, #1) by Diana Pharaoh Francis I've only read two chapters so far, but it certainly dives right into the action and I'm liking it so far.

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I'll be interested to know what you think of Bitter Night, Lannister. It's always popping up in my recs from GR, but I can't decide if I should read it.

Started Blood of the Demon (Kara Gillian, #2) by Diana Rowland

message 317: by Daniel (new)

Daniel | 269 comments Read the Sanctuary series books 1 - 4 by RJ Scott...For some reason my reading has taken a back seat recently. I've been reading a lot of on line shorts instead that don't require an E-reader to read.

Will do, Mello. So far, it's been good. Oh, and the author thanks Ilona Andrews on the Acknowledgements page and says that she was a big help to her when she was writing the book, so that was a plus point!

Anna | 1680 comments Just finished Magic Slays (Kate Daniels, #5) by Ilona Andrews . Liked it but not quite as much as Gunmetal Magic. Too much saving the world with a roar. I read them in the wrong order too...

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments A few weeks ago someone from this thread read the Throne of glass series. I decided to give it a go since the library just got the prequels in. Starting The Assassin and the Pirate Lord (Throne of Glass, #0.1) by Sarah J. Maas

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments That was me and someone else. I hope you enjoy them!

message 324: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments I just finished Thirty Nights with a Highland Husband (Daughters of the Glen, #1) by Melissa Mayhue . It wasn't quite as good as KMM's Highlander series but I really enjoyed the ending.

Dale Modisette (lordshrill) | 343 comments Arushi wrote: "@Claire - You'll recommend finishing the Highlander series even if I do not plan to read Fever?

@Dale - How are the last few Artemis Fowl books? Did you review by any chance?"

I did write a review to the Artemis Fowl series but the books were good but the only thing was I might of like it if the end of the last book was as it seemed, not the happy ever after kind. Then Artemis Fowl would be more of a hero of old but this is a kids book after all so I it make sense the way it ended.

Thanks Dale! Its too bad abt the ending.. but now I know that I do want to catch up on the series.

message 332: by Margo (new)

Margo | 663 comments Well I know that I disappeared for a while (again) but I was rereading my favorite manga such as Red River, Vol. 1 (Red River, #1) by Chie Shinohara , From Far Away, Volume 1 by Kyoko Hikawa and re-watching and rereading Nana, Vol. 1 (Nana, #1) by Ai Yazawa . I also started watching anime and this time I concentrated on sport and so I watched The Knight in the Area 10 (The Knight in the Area, # 10) by Hiroaki Igano , Chihayafuru, Vol. 1 (Chihayafuru, #1) by Yuki Suetsugu , Giant Killing Vol. 1 by Masaya Tsunamoto , Kuroko No Basuke 1 by Tadatoshi Fujimaki as well as this year anime BTOOM! and Psycho-Pass.

Yesterday I bought and read Dannika Dark's Impulse (Mageri, #3) by Dannika Dark and really liked it :) I didn't like her 1st book from Mageri series but loved the 2nd one.

Now I'm planning on reading Darkness Hunts (Dark Angels, #4) by Keri Arthur and Demon Lost (High Demon #1) by Connie Suttle

Oh, someone else is reading the Mageri series. Lannister and I read it together and well, we weren't that impressed. The only thing I really love about it is Justus. LOL

message 334: by Margo (new)

Margo | 663 comments I prefer Logan :p

message 335: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Oh, I didn't realise the third book was out in that series. I'm going to pass on it, unless it gets amazing reviews. I wanted to strangle Silver!

message 336: by Margo (new)

Margo | 663 comments Yeah that doesn't change but in the third book you can understand why Justus is the way he is and there is more Logan for me :)

message 337: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments Ah, well, I think I'll have to pass if Silver is still worthy of a good strangulation LOL!

I was excited to read about Logan, because I'd been told he was nearly as hot as Curran. Um ... no! :) Maybe if my expectations hadn't been so high, I might have liked Logan better. I really liked the world-building in this series and some of the characters were intriguing (like Justus). It's interesting that we learn more about him in this book.

How can an author come up with a good character like Justus, along with a complete moron like Silver?!

The funniest thing is when the Mageri author says in interviews "expect the unexpected" because her story is so full of clichés and predictable, it's not even funny anymore.

To mention Logan and Curran in the same sentence is an offense to da Hotness. That Logan guy is a character I've seen a gazillion times in UF/PNR books and done a gazillion times better.

Btw, this is my fave Twist (the third book) pre-release comment.

Silver and Logan can go die!

Go Justus!

Hahahaha!

I'll read it only because I love Justus so much and this shows that I'm madly in love with him because I endure all the rest. But I see that the fan girls already want to pair him up with someone and I'm like "Oh hell, please no."

I'll defo let you know how I like it, Lannister. I'm sure it'll be another fun review. LMAO

message 339: by Margo (new)

Margo | 663 comments I don't know if you noticed but most of the time the women in the series are morons (with few exceptions such as Kate Daniels or Jane Yellowrock) who you want to hit with something :) I actually read the books for male characters rather than female (:/) 'cause sometimes it's like watching old horror movies - they know that the murderer is in the basement and that they can't do anything about him but just run like hell and still they go down there, why you ask, 'cause they are too confident morons :D

I agree. Curran and Logan should not be mentioned in the same sentence unless it's about how unlike they are. And Yes Logan is a character that you can find in almost any UF/PNR but I still like him. Maybe 'cause he's a Chitah and lately I started to like big cats :D

Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ | 1164 comments I'm attacking The Name of the Wind (The Kingkiller Chronicle, #1) by Patrick Rothfuss and An Artificial Night (October Daye, #3) by Seanan McGuire .

On a side note....aside from Kate Daniels and Jane Yellowrock...any other heroines that are not TSTL?

message 347: by Lannister (new)

Lannister (lannisteruk) | 10911 comments I really liked The Name of the Wind, Valerie and I'm slightly ashamed that I haven't got round to reading the second book yet.

I guess Kara Gillian would also qualify as not TSTL. And maybe Dory? I'm not quite so certain about Cassie!! :o
