Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Reaver's book better come out soon ... wtf @ starting a new series before it.

There is the three brothers's s books ... then wraith's leads to lore ... then sin's book ... and in her's you get the beginning of the lords series.

When you are as OCD about book series like me you pick up all of the connections.... For instance all of J.R. Ward's book are connected somehow, even her contemporaries.
That and your weird brain that absorbs and keeps the stupidest useless crap remembers it all.

You will if you read the books! :P Only like 3 people from the LoD series first show in the demonica series. Reaver I think shows first in the first book, he did used to work in the hospital. Regan you meet in book 3 ... also where Reaver does great things! I mentioned before that Pestilence/Reseph first shows in Sin Undone along with his brother Ares....
Damn, now I want to read the series again.... I blame Mello.

One character, Regan the Rapist, rapes another character. But obviously she does it so well that they end up together. WTF!

Well, who knows. Maybe it's okay if a female rapes a male. If it's a guy who's held down with some weird power and says "no" over and over again, no one cares. But if it's the other way around...

I also saw some people excuse it because they drank some wine. Yeah, next time a 40 year old rapes a 14 year old and excuses it with "being drunk", I want to see those people's reaction.

As you can see this pissed me off to no end! That's why I stopped reading Ione books even though she used to be one of my fave authors. Good for me, there are enough great stories out there for me to read.

message 2411: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments Basically Claire, the events of the last Demonica book lead to the Lords of Deliverence series. The Demonica series is over all pretty good. The LoD series though is slightly effed up tbh. I still like it, but there is this huge power gap between the Lords and almost everyone else in their world - which makes relationships weird to me, or at least not as much of a partnership as the Demonica series.

I agree with what Sarah said, that one was rape, and while I was pissed about it for a while, I did mostly get over it. At the same time, I have had the last book in that series for a while now and haven't read it yet.

The moral of the story is, read the Demonica series. Its really good. The LoD series, well, I leave that to you after you finish the Demonica one.

Ah, yes, I could see why that would be a problem. I was going to read the LoD books but now I don't know. That's not okay.

Do the LoD books have to be read for the rest of the Demonica books to make sense?

message 2414: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments You don't have to read the LoD books to get the demonica books as of yet, but if there are going to be more books set in that world you would miss a lot if you passed them. Information wise....

I will say again that it is a matter of perception. Someone who feels strongly about the subject will always see it as being wrong in every way. I am so not condoning the act since it is such a heinous one. No matter if the roles were switched, the genders changed, the ages changed it will always be the same act. How one sees it is the only thing that may change.
It is a controversial subject, like molestation, murder, cheating, lying, and stealing. How it is handled changes how you see it (most of the time), how it is presented and handled. By handling I mean how does the character (victim and offender) handle their roles, how does it affect their life and people around them?
In Lethal Rider they spend most of the book dealing with what happened. Yeah there was drugging involved, yeah there were lies involved, and both of them were affected by it. It does not mean it was right at all, but really they were both victims of a sort. Thanatos spends most of the book thinking of all of the mean things he is going to do to Regan in retaliation and is deservedly cruel to her; he only cares about the child that she is carrying. Regan spends the bulk of the book feeling remorse at being lied to on top of the issues that she already had with feeling unwanted in general beforehand. She believes that he will never forgive her and tries to come to deal with that.
They have to deal with what happened with them and why and what they are going to do afterwards. God, yes it sucked but it is what you do afterwards … you can hate the people responsible for forever, but in the long run that can only hurt you. I say that from personal experience with more than one thing.

I tend to run on so I put some of it into a spoiler tag so you sightlings don’t have to scroll so much.
(view spoiler)

The handling of a subject is key really.
(view spoiler)
I know I will most likely irritate someone with what I said, but really, you can never make everyone happy with what you say when it is about something like this. Everyone … evvvveryone is entitled to what they believe and sometimes people have to experience something and form their own opinions on things to get there.

Man, I really dislike the fact I am so crappy with translating my thoughts into words. It was a hell of a lot easier to paint a picture and keep things to myself.

message 2417: by Claire (new)

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments @Llaph that makes sense. I probably won't end up liking the book, because it seems like Regan wasn't forced- she chose her course of action based on the (flawed) information she had. I suppose all of it depends on how much I like the Demonica books. It's entirely possible that I'll be sick of the series by the time I hit book 5.

message 2418: by Llaph (last edited Apr 30, 2013 01:27PM) (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments That's possible, I just know for me it was different. I really liked both series, it was different for me, which is one of the reasons I have liked it so much.

I just remember avoiding a book or series based on what someone else said and sometimes reading it with a pre conceived notion that sucked for them. Then I would find out what they thought was not the same way I thought and what they bitched about wasn't that bad ... or it did kind of sucked, but I was glad I could experience that on my own.

I have this thing where I want everyone to be happy and like what I like. I am getting over this some though. I also have too much time on my hands....

So far this is not my favorite of the series, it was missing something that the other books had. Maybe it was frustration for me? Dunno! It just seemed to lack something or left something out. It was like a Nikki and Anderson show with a side of Jamal and misc extras with well known names.

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments I don't mind love triangles if it's done well. And, it's REALLY hard to do a love triangle well. Usually I am annoyed before it's solved, or really pissed that the author went in the direction that made no sense... (the author didn't build up much of a relationship/chemistry and randomly becomes the one). The author doesn't have to pick the one I like, but it has to make sense and balance well.

message 2430: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments @ Jax:
Just take heart in the fact that you have confirmation that it is really coming.

@ zeenat:
That is true what you said about triangles. I think I said that mainly because deep down I rather everyone get along some how. Good triangles are good to read and I can totally see bad ones. Bad ones that the author totally screwed up a series over.... Not naming names though!

Accidentally in Love with...A God? (Accidentally Yours, #1) by Mimi Jean Pamfiloff

Cute …some of her descriptions for things were pretty funny and weren’t over done really like one author I can think of. I really needed those giggles today.

"Not that this would validate your theory, but what did he look like?" Guy asked.
Emma took a long moment. Then another.
"Well? We're waiting, Princess Know-It-All," Guy said.
A wicked little smile suddenly made camp on her face. It brought a foldout chair, made a fire, and started roasting marshmallows. Guy suddenly felt uneasy.

That was just one quote, for some reason it really stuck with me.

message 2431: by Luichy (new)

Luichy (lfm69) | 10 comments Well, I just read the 3 Nikki Glass books in 3 days. I liked them. With the triangle, I do not mind them either. However, I will say that the one character that really annoyed me was Jamal. Liked him in the first 2 books, in this one...he whines too much. He might be “oh, so hot” but Nikki is pushing this relationship too much. Anderson, I have not make my mind about him yet. I kind of like him? At least he intrigues me more than Jamal. How are the other series written by this author? (I think is the Exorcist series) I am thinking about buying them.

D.C. (dcmallory) | 152 comments I just finished the fifth "Black Wings" book by Christina Henry. Since I started the series a couple of days ago, I guess I must have enjoyed them as I went through them all non-stop. Not a 5 star series, but certainly enjoyable. There's something about a heroine with no plan and no co-ordination who basically stumbles through life having meaningless banter with a gargoyle that appeals to me.

Guess its back to the Red Hat book....

@Luichy - Nikki Glass is better than Morgan Kingsley - personally I didn't rate either series very high, but to each their own. I thought that Nikki had a chip on her shoulder, but it was nothing compared to Morgan.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments re: morgan kingsley and guardians of the night series....
I will admit to having read them both. Morgan, I agree, is sort of whiney and has the "why me" mentality a lot. I also didn't really like her judgemental opinions regarding bdsm ... but I guess it fits for someone ignorant. Jumping to conclusions about stuff was bleh. Plus she is rather un blood thirsty.
black's interpretation about vamps was interesting, but I didn't like it too much. Guardians are supposed to be the nice vamps and don't drink human blood, it his highly addictive, but it gives them uber powers. I didn't get it too much, plus I kept thinking about how they eat ... lamb's blood and milk just stuck in my head.
Both series were okay and most of the time what I think doesn't match with others so!

I love anne bishop ... I think I read her black jewels trilogy a million times. I owned that set and I remember starting with book 2 and thinking "wtf I am missing something damnit" and buying book one the next time I went shopping.

I'm a huge Southern Vampires (what they now call Sookie Stackhouse) fan - I've read them since the first book came out - publish date and Duane has it read and put to bed. Season One kind of followed the first book, and then Season Two kicked in and, after two episodes, the TV went off. All I can say is Charlaine must really have needed the money to let them destroy her series that completely. What a load of sh*t that series turned out to be!

Of course, this is just my opinion, so don't make me put on the fire retardant undies!
