Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I started reading Poison Princess (The Arcana Chronicles, #1) by Kresley Cole when I got home from work last night and stayed up until after 3am to finish it. Read it straight through. I loved it. I am not excited about waiting until October for the sequel. I want it now! I actually want to read the book again already. Go fig.

Just finished Slade (New Species, #2) by Laurann Dohner and enjoyed it quite a bit too. That ending was too abrupt, though. I'm not sure I like that. I'm sure we'll find out more about what's going on with Slade and Trisha in the next book, but since the books are supposed to be able to be read as standalones, that ending shouldn't have happened that way. I thought I was tabbing to the next chapter and then saw the freakin' About Author page and went, "Huh?"

Starting on
Dark Descendant (Nikki Glass, #1) by Jenna Black

I read Vicious Circle (Persephone Alcmedi, #1) by Linda Robertson last year and was actually pretty bored with it. Never did pick that series back up.

Maybe I will try it again though I am used to her other books first. Will see! I love the Nikki Glass series, really different from Morgan Kingsley, but I still really liked them.

Finished:
Wild Highland Magic (The MacInnes Werewolves Trilogy, #3) by Kendra Leigh Castle

The first book was sort of meh then it got better for me with the last two books. Something different I guess....

MG series stays mostly the same throughout. It always had lots of sex, so it always does, but there is also a good plot involved. The series does not change dramatically over the books.

Thanks Arushi. I finished A Kiss of Shadows and I did not find the book too focused on sex. The world-building is great, and the premise of the series allows readers to know up front that there will be sex...often.

Dale Modisette (lordshrill) | 343 comments I just finished my 12th book this month, titled Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin, #1) by R.L. LaFevers Grave Mercy (His Fair Assassin #1) by R.L. LaFevers . My next book is Hex Hall (Hex Hall, #1) by Rachel Hawkins Hex Hall (Hex Hall #1) by Rachel Hawkins

message 1556: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Dale - Please do give an opinion on both of these! They're both on my TBR pile and I've been thinking of dropping off Hex Hall for a while. Let me know if I should keep it on so I can get to it eventually.

message 1557: by Llaph (new)

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments You get more sex after the first MG book.... I don't think it is too much since you go in knowing what it is about. I like the story and the world she made for MG.
It is too bad another book is so controversial. I wouldn't want it to turn out to be a love/hate thing like the Anita series has garnered.

Finished:
Dark Awakening (Dark Dynasties #1) by Kendra Leigh Castle

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I hope you like Hex Hall, Dale. I really enjoyed that series.

Finished Dark Descendant (Nikki Glass, #1) by Jenna Black and liked it a lot. Starting Deadly Descendant (Nikki Glass, #2) by Jenna Black

Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments I didn't realize so many books were out in the series already. I have the prequel and first book and am looking forward to reading them.

I finished Deadly Descendant (Nikki Glass, #2) by Jenna Black and enjoyed it as much as the first book. Looking forward to the follow up novella and then the third book. I wanna read them now, though...

Gonna start Pushing the Limits (Pushing the Limits, #1) by Katie McGarry

I think I'm one of the few who liked the Merry Gentry series. Like Arushi said though, lots of sex throughout but with an interesting plot.

Sucks that the lengths between the Nikki books is so long.

I rather like the MG series, I have read it a few times and don't really get tired of it even if I have a good clue what will happen. Lets me see new ways to hate on Andais and Tarenais though....

Finished:
Midnight Reckoning (Dark Dynasties #2) by Kendra Leigh Castle
and
Shadow Rising (Dark Dynasties, #3) by Kendra Leigh Castle

Next one is due out next week, wonder if I will be lucky to get a hold of it. would be quicker than getting Ever After....

Gin | 323 comments @Llaph I just came across Dark Awakening (Dark Dynasties #1) by Kendra Leigh Castle I'm assuming you thought it was good?

message 1564: by Arushi (new)

Arushi | 3652 comments @Enjee - I am glad you like the MG series. It is actually pretty good. But it helps to know what it is before starting so as to not have wrong expectations :)

@Gin - The MG series makes me think there is hope yet for the Anita Blake one. After all, if that one works with so many men and a lot of sex, this one can too.

@Llaph - I am so with you. There are always new ways to hate the Queen and the Prince. *grins*

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments @Gin:
I did like the series, her world is a bit different when it comes to the vamp myth. I rather liked how it is set up with the dynasties, having different gods/goddesses/demons having created each one. The different abilities for eachhouse, the caste system of low and high bloods. The low bloods being thought to be any sort that can shape shift like the cait sith for example.

It was a nice find to read while waiting to get a hold of books I have been waiting for. Some of it was predictable plot wise, but I still enjoyed it. The vamps and werewolves are not "dark" and there isn't really any gore in them.
Really, to me anyway, light easy reads.

@Arushi:
It is a nice hope that she could pull off the same with the anita series, but the sidhe society it was said leans more towards the physical affection/sex with lots already. Merry was doing the "can't love them all, don't want to hurt someone, they deserve better" deal more towards the last two books, but some were finding partners of their own and she was finding places for everyone so anita has some hope imo.

I love the league series and have read born of silence a few times already ... the next book/story is gonna be out soon and I am excited for it.
Cloak & Silence (The League, #6) by Sherrilyn Kenyon
GR says it is a main book, but I doubt it because of the title and the main characters are secondary characters from born of silence.
Plus:
Born of Fury (The League, #7) by Sherrilyn Kenyon
makes more sense since Hawk is a mainish character and that is due in April.

I wonder where my hyperness comes from sometimes since I don't drink coffee ... or really like it much.

I'm about halfway through this book, Llaph. I'm liking it so far, but I was annoyed at how much of a goody-goody Persephone was, between rescuing orphaned children, sheltering her grandmother, taking in abandoned puppies, kennelling wares and so on.

But Goliath has just shown up and I think things are getting interesting!

Yeah it's rather good, not great but very interesting. Of course you want to kill the main female a few times (at least I do 'cause the things she does sometimes are really stupid, it's like watching B-horror but well you can't have everything right *shrugs*)

I can't say it's the best series I've ever read but there is something there (maybe it's the menage aspect *ponders*) but it's worth to give it a try ;)

BTW finished with Only Vampires Cry Blood (Alexa O'Brien, Huntress, #3) by Trina M. Lee but I'm gonna give myself a little break from the books - like until weekend (yeah... I'm not holding my breath that I'm not going to start reading earlier, I'm weak when it comes to books and chocolate :p) to read the 4th book in the series

Persephone is still too much of a goody-goody but I *love* the vampires. Someone in another group said that Menessos reminded them of Mircea. I don't entirely see it personally, but I thought it was interesting that she thought that.

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments Wicked Circle (Persephone Alcmedi, #5) by Linda Robertson

Having an online library to access ... plus not much to do ... means I read a lot. I have 1 more book in the series, Shattered Circle. She's grown up a little I guess, but the stuff between the three of them is annoying in that she denies it blahblahblah.

I still like it so far, if/when I go to read it again I might change my thoughts on it.

I like these vamps too, but they don't really seem like vamps. What I mean by that is there really isn't much showing what they are. Some strength and speed are mentioned, but not a lot, the story seems to be more about magic and maneuvering/politic stuff.
Menessos shows the macavellian trait lots of vamps do, like Mircea and JC for example, but he has his own characteristics I think. At first and at points I think of Anita, JC, and Richard's triumvirate, but then again I could be over analyzing some.

I miss her fixation on Arthurian stuff; it reminded me of Jane's obsession with unicorn figurines and Jane Austin. The funny isn't there as much now in later books and to me, after only reading it once and really fast, that some conflicts seem to be shoved out there so there is a conflict to have in the story.

I would babble more but she-ra (one of our dogs) is barking like a dumbass, I can't shut her up, and it is driving me bonkers.
