Mello ❣ Illium ✮Harry✮ ☀Myrnin☀ Torin Ichimaru | 2012 comments Finished Thirteen (Women of the Otherworld, #13) by Kelley Armstrong and I am sad the series is over. It's such a surprise because I barely tolerated the first book in the series. I came to really love the characters, though. I actually ended up appreciating the time skips. Even though most of the characters were well into adulthood when they're first introduced, we still get to see a lot of them grow up and mature over the years. This was an ending I can live with for this series. It's open-ended, but not in an annoying way. It fit for a series like this.

Starting Hot for the Holidays by Lora Leigh

You won't be the only one. I know lots of readers who only continued for their book and will quit after it.

I do not know if I will stop reading the series, it hasn't pissed me off too bad. I did stop reading Sookie though ... I got the last book and read the last few pages. I just was so not excited when I was able to get Dead Locked. I still get excited when I am able to get a J.R. Ward book. I have even read her contemporaries as Jessica Bird a few times. (The Billionaire Next Door is my favorite ... she has even connected those books to the PNR ones.)
CH just pissed me off, I am usually pretty tolerant of things, but I have read her other series and when she killed off a main character's husband right off after making her go through so much crap... just last straw last straw.

Claire (claire1) | 4451 comments She did an awesome job, I'll give her that. Oh, standard tango...

Seriously, high level Latin costumes are more suggestion than reality. And then there's always the one girl who forgets to wear spanx and 7:00am is way too early for that much ass cheek.

I once saw a girl with green false eyelashes who'd glued black feathers next to her eyes. They looked like antennae.

Zeenat (zeekwon) | 6376 comments spanx while dancing?? Ugh sounds way uncomfortable.

I love ballroom dancing, like watching it. Before it became thing with dancing with the stars, I remember on tv at weird times they used to show competitions. I think it was ESPN.... don't remember. But I used to watch.

Agreed. Absolutely.

@Zeenat - I am so glad I never started BDB. I can't give up DH either... but it takes me forever to pick up the next book now... coz I know I am reading it only for the greater story, not the main plot of the book.

message 1112: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Wilson | 404 comments I usually get sick of PNR too. The first book might be good then the others in a series all sound the same. I'm juggling a few books. Slave to Sensation (Psy-Changeling #1) by Nalini Singh almost done, I'm liking it but will probably get sick of the next books quickly.
Rosemary and Rue (October Daye, #1) by Seanan McGuire going to try to catch up on the readalong.
The Scent of Shadows (Signs of the Zodiac, #1) by Vicki Pettersson
Into the Woods Tales from the Hollows and Beyond by Kim Harrison
City of Bones (The Mortal Instruments, #1) by Cassandra Clare
Halfway through rereading Halfway to the Grave (Night Huntress, #1) by Jeaniene Frost

Don't ask why I did this. So many at once. Actually I have an explanation but it might be kind of long. A short partial explanation would be I got too many books from the library at once and busy with the holidays. I also need to start Too Much Temptation (Brava Brothers, #1) by Lori Foster and Foretold 14 Tales of Prophecy and Prediction by Carrie Ryan
ahem..better go read now.

Feist Initiate's Trial (Wars of Light & Shadow #9; Arc 4 - Sword of the Canon, #1) by Janny Wurts Inheritance by Christopher Paolini

On a side note, I found an online course site and am taking Fantasy and Science Fiction: The Human Mind, Our Modern World!
The course will start in Jan end, so sign up is still open. Its pretty cool as everything is free. So I guess I will be reading Dracula & the Grimm Brothers again very soon as they are part of the course work.

So True!! My hubby and I are also eagerly waiting for this one!!
We'll be getting the ebook first though, as we're anal enough to insist that the physical copy match the rest of our set! ;D

Llaph (llaph) | 3285 comments I did not even finish Towers of Midnight (Wheel of Time, #13; A Memory of Light, #2) I just can't seem to get into it now that Sanderson is writing it. The last book I read was The Gathering Storm (Wheel of Time, #12; A Memory of Light, #1) .

I like his work his Mist born series was interesting, some of his stand alones like Elantriss, and even his harrypotterisk/YA Alcatraz were okay to read also.
It is just not Jordan's voice. Weird thing to say I think. I have read/owned the series many many many times. I think is my most read series ever, I have been reading it around once a year since I was 15 till last year which makes around 17 years/times. Wow I am a nerd ... I have all my hard backs and find it is hard to let them go even if I can't read them now. :(

I read the Wheel of time for a long time but didn't finish the last one either. I think Sanderson did fine. It's just getting too long. Some of the characters POV I want to read and some are boring. And there are so many subplots and minor characters. There was one book where we were in some guys' POV for a chapter or part of one, and we didn't hear about him for several chapters then he died. I was like who the heck is this. Figured out he was some minor character we hadn't heard about in two books. I just have too much I'd rather read now, but my husband reads less and is committed to finishing this series. He'll read it, and I'll ask him what happened.

I had been getting more and more disillusioned by the Wheel of Time, and after Crossroads of Twilight came out I considered not reading any more. That book was just terrible. But Knife of Dreams was better, so I was feeling cautiously optimistic for the rest of the series, but then of course Robert Jordan died.

I was glad that the story was going to be finished and at least I'd find out what would happen and I have to say I was quite impressed with the The Gathering Storm. I thought overall Brandon did a good job, though he didn't get Mat's voice quite right. But the story was good and moved forward. I wasn't quite as impressed with Towers of Midnight, and it had some really weird continuity issues which Brandon explained somewhere. So, it wasn't amazing, but it was still a hell of a lot better than RJ's last couple of books prior to Knife of Dreams.

But, it's been a long road, but having come this far, I can't NOT find out what happens. I've been quite into the WoT fandom, and I used to post a bit on Dragonmount and I like reading all the theories and stuff, but I can completely understand why people were fed up with it. The first five or six books were awesome, then the middle books just kinda lost it, but they were saved from being dire by having some individually amazing scenes. I cringe over Crossroads of Twilight. I honestly do. Maybe if I read it again I might find it's not as bad as I remember (it's the only WoT book that I've only read once - apart from Towers of Midnight, which I'm about to start rereading). But the end is in sight (and RJ wrote the end of the book before he died!) so I'm going to give it a go, as much out of sentiment as anything else.

message 1144: by Sarah (new)

Sarah Wilson | 404 comments I haven't read Alex Craft. The last Sabina Kane is real good, a little corny at the very end. Also funny and weird at one point at the end. I have mixed feelings about the Dresden books. Butcher is a good writer. I am entertained while reading except for a few slow parts. But I can't really get into the books like some others. Worth reading but I'm not excited to pick up the next one. I've read the first six. Has some good humor.

Thank God it's over fro today but the thought that I have to spend next two whole days with my family is giving me a headache :/. I really would like to be wrong just once and come to my mother's house and not hear her complain that: a) why am I so late (even if I'm like 4 hours earlier then she said), b) when I mention I hardly just woke up (like an hour ago) she and my sister asks me why which I politely (yes I'm still polite but that's only last for few more minutes) explain that I have problems with falling asleep (which they know I have it for years) and I went to sleep at 5 or 6 in the morning my mother and sister tell me that I just should go to bed earlier (like that was my choice) , oh and don't forget about c)why I didn't call that I was on my way so she could tell me what to buy from the store (doesn't matter that I have hands full of Christmas gifts, don't have a car and no way in hell I would buy something more). And this year was nothing new. All "a", "b" and "c" occurred before I even managed to close the door behind me :/.
