What are you reading?
I just finished my 3rd book this month, titled
Fourth Grave Beneath My Feet (Charley Davidson #4)by Darynda Jones. My next book is
Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitionerby Scott Cunningham
@Sarah I'm not sure what you'll think of CLV. I definitely really enjoyed the series and I hope you do, too.I absolutely adore the NH books. I've read them several times. I try and just read the first one, and next thing I know I'm doing a reread of the whole series.
I read a short story in the Demonica world and it struck me as too cheesy to keep reading. I didn't even finish that.
Sarah ♥ Vutch forever ♥ wrote: "Well, I'll defo try the Chicagoland Vampires, Kara Gillian and NH first.Btw, finished Iced and loooooved it."
@Sarah - You can decide between CLV and NH (tho I would prefer NH). But Kara Gillian comes after the two! I quit that series.. so you have to push it a little bit lower on your TBR pile! *crosses arms and looks all unreasonable*
@Llaph - I checked out Dreg City and it did seem different, which is good. Coz I am kinda looking for different right now.
I totally lol'ed at this: I guess it will be like a constant in life? “Ahh the crops are bad this season but there will be a new DH book next month.”
And I hadn't know Shadow's Claim was out! Now I need to get my copy.
I just FINALLY got Bitter Blood so am thinking of reading that.
I'm hoping to get to Bitter Blood soon myself.Ahh, please let there be plenty of Myrnin this time around.

It's better than 50 Shades. The main characters are seriously damaged, though. Their relationship is a crazy whirlwind and the sex scenes are top notch. However, I've heard extremely mixed reactions to this second book and I'm a little afraid of reading it, but I loved the first book. I'll be able to give you a better opinion.
Thanks Mello! I'll wait for your reaction to the book before I decide whether I wanna read it or not.
@ Claire Demonica, I thought it would be cheesy at first too and I guess it is, but I read the first book first and it just snuck up on me that I liked it. I call those train wreck books, they don’t necessarily mean the books are bad, but there is just something about them that makes you look no matter if they are good or bad. Those books are racing with the Kate Daniels series for how many times I have read them …@ arushi I don’t think shadow’s claim is due to be out till Tuesday, but my library had it up so I so grabbed it. I really liked it.
I seriously think the comparisons to that book are stupid … I actually caved and wrote a review comment about it in Bared to You. I mean it is “look there is a woman in this book, 50 shades has a woman too let’s add it is compared to it even though it may only be in the most technical sense as it has words in it to”
I read the 50 shades books … all that I can say is that I just don’t get it and that people are weird. I like bared to you a lot more than them and wish my library would get Reflected in You faster. 50 shades is a BAD train wreck book, ya gotta look even though it has some casualties not just the wreck.
I read too fast to list one book, I am re-reading the series by Kristina Douglas/Anne Stuart that she started about fallen angels”
The Fallen
I finished Raziel last night; it has a different view on theology that is for sure. Finding out Kristina Douglas was the PRN pen name of Anne Stuart made a lot of sense to me. I like her Ice books <>
Lannister wrote: "Sarah, I honestly can't wait for you to read CLV just to hear your reactions. The new book's out in February, and I'm sure a bunch of us will be reading that. I don't know if there would be enough ..."I could do a CLV reread as long as we skip drink deep :P
Sarah, if you are choosing between CLV, NH, and KG, I'll throw my opinion in which ones you should read first:I think you'd like the KG books the best. Rhzkahl is seriously delicious and the books are shorter than average UF books. The stories move fast w/ not much fluff.
CLV and NH is a tossup. There is as much I like about NH as much as I get bored. It falls under UF, but it is heavy on the romance. I got annoyed with the romance aspects, but loved the action.
CLV is similar, but it is kind of between regular UF and a YA UF. Think: college frat parties. LOL. I run hot and cold with Ethan. But I think the world building and politics is fascinating.
Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ wrote: "Currently alternating with

I think that YA feel is what bugs me most about CLV. Merit is 27/28 and a PHD graduate. Yet she acts like a 17/18 year old who's maybe in her first year of college. I don't know why Chloe Neill didn't just make her that age, or maybe slightly older. Even the whole set-up in Cadogan House has a very college-y feel about it.I suppose it's all down to what you're expecting though. People get pissed off when their expectations aren't met. I expected a book about a mature adult woman, and what I got was a YA story with a couple of hot scenes. I was annoyed!
But I agree with Zeenat's comment about the world building and especially the politics. That is the single best part of the CLV series, in my opinion. (Way better than Ethan!!)
I've only read the first NH book despite promises to read more and I did like it. The romance wasn't ridiculously over the top, the way it is with some PNR books, though I don't know how it goes in later books.
@Diane On Dublin Street is just a regular contemporary romance, but it's been getting really great reviews.@Lannister That's the feeling I get from CLV, too. Initially, I really loved the series, but when I was reading the fifth book, I realized how much it reminded me of Neill's YA series. It can also feel so slow moving at times that I get a little bored (it's why I still haven't read Biting Cold, yet), but I like the politics aspect of the story a lot, too.
The first few books made it one of my favorite series. But I became so disappointed with Ethan and Merit as characters . . . It just doesn't feel the same anymore.
@Diane: On Dublin street is regular contemporary romance as Mello mentioned. I just started it so I cannot give an opinion but in 2 months...about 14 000 rated it. Should be worth looking into. I normally never read a book without supernatural element in it but it fits in a reading challenge and a few GR friends assured me it was worth reading (even if I read another book from that author and didn't like it).
Zeenat wrote: "The first few books made it one of my favorite series. But I became so disappointed with Ethan and Merit as characters . . . It just doesn't feel the same anymore."That is how I feel for the most part. The first time I read through it I liked it ... Then when I was re-reading it the excitement slowed down for me. When ever I am able to get Biting Cold I wont squee over it, but will read it when I get around to it.
Merit does act like she is much younger, I never put too much thought into it before. There goes that part about people thinking so I don't have to again.
I agree with the politics and world building part, I did enjoy reading that bit.
The wishy-washness of Ethan annoyed the hell out of me ... One of the reasons it slowed the read down for me.
Zeenat wrote: "The first few books made it one of my favorite series. But I became so disappointed with Ethan and Merit as characters . . . It just doesn't feel the same anymore."That's how I felt, too. I have to agree with Llaph about Ethan's wishy-washiness and then I got irritated with Merit in the last book because she was too slow to figure out what was going on with Mallory. I was disappointed in everyone in Mallory that couldn't see that. It was too damned obvious. I've put off Biting Cold because I saw some spoilers regarding Mallory that don't make me eager to actually read it. I'll read it before the next book, though to see if I want to continue the series.
I absolutely adore the Night Huntress books. I wasn't so crazy about the last one, but I think that Frost will turn things around. Bones is one of those male characters that I wish I could bring to life and keep for myself....As for CLV, it's definitely got a YA feel to it. It's an enjoyable, fun read but definitely never going to be one of my favorites.
I'll read a few shorts in
Tomorrow I'm starting a group read of
which I have been anxiously waiting for what seems like forever! I want to start now!!!
@Gin Million Dollar Baby is one of my favorites in that collection. Makes you re-think Trent. (or like him even more)The bridges of eden park still makes me have a sadface ... ahh kisten
Thank you all for your input about the series in my TBR pile. I'll think about the reading order a bit more.
@Mello: If I'm not mistaken, Nalini Singh wrote a short about Raphael and Elena and added it to her newsletter. Do you know if it'll be posted on her website as well?
@Mello: If I'm not mistaken, Nalini Singh wrote a short about Raphael and Elena and added it to her newsletter. Do you know if it'll be posted on her website as well?
She did. I read it, but you shouldn't read it until after you've read Archangel's Storm. It's got a little info in it from that book. Not much, but a little. I don't know if she's planning to put the short stories from the newsletters up on her website or not. I believe there are supposed to be two Elena/Raphael ones and I think any others are from her Psy/Changeling series.@Arushi I stayed up late and finished
. The sex scenes were still smokin' hot, but I was upset by the lack of progress of the two main characters. They made some, but it was at the very end of the book and the thing that brought it about is horrible (in my opinion, anyway). It's hard enough reading about such damaged people as it is without them acting stupid in their relationship on top of it. Like I said, I loved the first book, but I'm not sure if I'd recommend the series after reading the second book. Some people loved it, though.Starting
I finished reading Bitter Night. It was OK but I actually found the main character to be a little too kickass. She's not a vamp but she has vamp-like healing and she would get into numerous fights throughout the book and suffer horrible injuries, but then a day later she was back on her feet again ready to fight some more. I felt it got to be a little too much. I didn't much like the lead character. She was kinda cold and unsympathetic. There was little romance in the book, but hints at several possible future romances, none of which really excited me to be honest. But having said all that, I did like the world-building and I like where the plot is going so I'm going to read the second book. I'm hoping that the lead will have some of her more annoying characteristics wiped out somewhat in the second book.Oh, and there was a hot angel who was kinda badass! I likes a hot, badass angel! :D
The angel was a very minor character, but I suspect he'll play a bigger part in the next story. I've ordered the next book so I'll let you know if you're still thinking of reading this series. The plot was pretty good, but the characters a little bit of a let down.I need to read more books about badass angels, but not PNR!
I just finished my 4th book this month, titled
Wicca: A Guide for the Solitary Practitionerby Scott Cunningham. My next book is
Everlasting Kiss (Everlasting #1)by Amanda Ashley
I finished Shadow City … the first book Bitter Night showed promise and I thought the story got better as it went along. The characters still need more work, but I think they are a lot better than in the first book. Oh, and the world is rather original, to me anyways, the shadow city where max has to go in that book is pretty cool and full of unique “beings.” Dunno about getting all those dogs though …thnx lannister for leading me down that trail ...
Thanks for that Llaph, I didn't realise you'd already started reading the series! I liked the story, but I don't much like Max. I got really annoyed with the way she bitched constantly at Giselle and if I were Giselle and had been listening to that for 30 years, I would have strangled her! But I think this aspect should be better in the next book hopefully.I'm hoping for lots more of the angels!! :D
Lannister wrote: "Thanks for that Llaph, I didn't realise you'd already started reading the series! I liked the story, but I don't much like Max. I got really annoyed with the way she bitched constantly at Giselle a..."I saw you mention it so I looked it up in my library.
It does get better as you go along. It's a new world so she is working into her "groove." Kate wasn't perfect in her first book either ... they got better as the book went along!
The personal-type interactions were one of my things I did not like too much, I don’t remember too much ‘hategisellehategiselle’ in the subsequent books. (But my memory kind of sucks sometimes)
The angels play a biggish part in book 3, but I am so not giving out spoilers. I try to never do that no matter what.
I just finished House of Cards by Terri Molina, it is not pnr really, but I read another of her books that was and liked. I think I like her books because they are set in Texas. : P
HoC is more of an investigation/mystery and was really good with the figuring out … you know who the BG is, but how to prove it while having to deal with him saying you are a schitzo. Nice quick read—was not even 200 pages.
I read and talk too much.
First books are often the worst in the series. Touch the Dark is KC's poorest book in my opinion, cos there's so much info-dumping in it and some people can't be bothered with that, which is a shame given how much better the books get.But thank you for not spoiling me. I'm not a fan of spoilers unless I don't care either way about a series. So I need to wait till Book Three for the angels' big part. Dammit!!
PS I don't think it's possible to read too much, and as for talking too much ... I've got nearly 4500 comments in this group (how the f*ck did THAT happen!!) so you've got a while to go before you talk more than me LOL! So don't be shy about posting and sharing your thoughts on anything book-related!
@ Lannister:I agree on touch the dark and the books getting better … Midnight’s daughter is one of my favorites, her world is established and well dori and LC are awesome. I <3 dori I tend to give a series at least 3 books before I give up on it. If the author hasn’t gotten their crap together by then, fat chance they ever will.
It is very surprising and unexpected! :P It is not always so good to write about a book when you recently finished it … atm I really liked the book and thought it was the best of the three and I am looking forward to the 4th next month. I will most likely forget about it, though I did list it in my notes for new releases and dates … I am sort of OCD about record keeping since it is so easy to forget things now. I used to put post it notes on my monitor, but can’t use them now of course, hell I didn’t even have my monitor set-up till I needed help from a sightling.
As for talking too much, I don’t really talk too much all of the time, (I took a personality test and it gave me that I am 100% introverted … ) someone told me that I save it up and when you get me started talking about something I will not shut-up.
I keep a record of books I have read for the week, it is scary; I lack a job and have to wait on seeing about school. I am bored … One of the only good things about losing my sight is access to online libraries for the optically challenged.

I agree that you need to give an author a chance, though I'm terrible for not doing that!! Have you read Fury's Kiss yet?
There's a website that some group members use that keeps track of all their series, except I can't remember the name of it. Anyone know what I'm talking about? I think Valerie uses it, amongst others.
I'd probably consider myself fairly introverted too. I can only take so much of people before I need a break, which is why I like this group, cos you can just go online when you're in the mood. We all have our quirks and frankly I tend to prefer people who aren't Mrs Mainstream, so any and all weird personality traits are welcome here LOL!
I personally like Fictfact.com to keep track of my series. There is à release calendar and it sends you an email of all the next books in à series coming out.
Ah, that's the one I was thinking of. Thanks Valerie. :)I signed up for an account there, but I've never really used it. I think I secretly like being disorganised in my reading and picking up stuff on a whim LOL!
I've also set up an account and never used it. I like randomly finding out a book I want to read just came out today. I get so excited when I see it in a store or hear that it's out. Otherwise, I just feel like i'm always waiting for books to come. I think I scared the shit out of my husband when I came across Pale Demon in Barnes and Noble one year. I practically squealed in delight! Good thing he already thinks I'm weird.

It's all drama all the time. In the first book, it isn't so bad because they've just met. In book two, it's just dumb.
I'm a little over halfway through
. I love history, so throwing in the Greek mythology made me happy. I'm glad I stuck with it. I don't think this is close to a 5 star book for me, but it's pretty good.
The first DH book is really cheesy and written a few years ago. The genre evolved since then and it shows it's age I think. I mean, for a paranormal romance series...Sherrilyn really made a decent world-building, not as extensive as a UF would be but still far more than other PNR series I've read so far. I'm finished with
, I cannot be kind about it...I don't understand why people love this book. It's ok but nowhere near phenomenal...let alone be nominated for best romance on GR.
You're the first I've seen to have reaction like that to that book, Valerie. Now I'll have to see what I think about it whenever I finally get to it.

I have not gotten fury’s kiss yet. My library is kind of slow with some publisher/authors. I did not get hunt the moon till months later … fury’s kiss was put on the wish list so I am sure bookshare will put it up soon. Gottathinkpositive
I keep a record of the books I read and I sorted some of my favorite series In my GR shelves. The way I have my books organized I would not forget series. I have a lot of daisy books/ text books so they are small files. I sort by genre, author, and series if there is enough. Like
Folder name k.chance >cassie > dori> and all books/anthologies that I have that fit into that series go in its folder. I keep records because a site I reviews for sometimes has a thing about what you are reading that week, that and I love lists.
I have a problem is there a 12 step for being too organized?
I hardly ever post, mainly because I talk too much …
I am reading Dark Storm by Christine Feehan … dunno why I keep reading that series to tell the truth.
Valerie ~ Val Hall ~ wrote: "I personally like Fictfact.com to keep track of my series. I am still sad I have not gotten to read Fate's Edge yet ...

In regards to CLV I stopped my re-read because my library does not have Biting Cold yet. I read the series once already and I read stupid fast (like ~100 pages in ~1 hour depending on the publisher) So I will read #5 again when I get the next book.
Is it bad I will not read widow’s web till the next book comes out because I goofed and read a spoiler that I did not like and don’t want to read it till I get a resolution to it?
In regard to the other I will not argue what you think, it is your opinion duh. I am sure we both have had different life experiences and those influense what we think. I just don’t see things that way. Coke vs Pepsi analogy comes to mind.
Gross I sounded like an afterschool special
