Hannah Jocks | 19 comments Hey, so if you have seen a movie thats turned out to be better than the book.... Comment! Explain! Etc.

Movie i saw that i thought was better than the book was: Nim's Island.
The movie was great and the book was short with little detail.

message 2: by Katrina (new)

Katrina Welsh (katrinawelsh_) Ella Enchanted. the movie wasn't better but it was different enough from the book in a good way that i could appreciate and love both equally great. does that make sense?

message 3: by Hannah (new)

Hannah Jocks | 19 comments Yes! That makes sense(: I have the same thoughts with other movies and books.

Winter's Bone. The movie blows the book out of the water.

Bridge to Terabithia. The book is just okay, where as the movie is beautiful.

message 5: by Kim (new)

Kim Lilienthal Hunger Games. The books are atrocious. The movie was a little more decent and actually gave us a hard visual of the world of Panem.

Yep. Totally.

These books are a literary treasure. The movie doesn't explain a lot that's going on, but I love it and the books equally in different ways.

Bridge to Terabithia and Because of Winn-Dixie.
That's all I can think of off the top of my head.

Funny, they both have Annasophia Robb in them.

So far, the only one has been War Horse. I've never been able to get into Michael Morpurgo ... his stories are great, and I actually really love his books ... but the writing style is so different to mine, and I can't enjoy them as much as I otherwise would. The movie, though. I adored it. It was beautiful, and is now one of my favourite films of all time, second only to The Hobbit, of course ;)

message 10: by Elysia (new)

Elysia (elysia_rae) Cloud With a Chance of Meatballs, the book was okay but the movie was just so much more different and had more of a back story than the book every did, and it was hilarious! So much more better than the book.

message 11: by Erica (new)

Erica | 98 comments No movies are better than the books!!

message 12: by Kim (new)

Kim Lilienthal @Halle I'm pretty sure the Hunger Games do not fall under the "literary treasure" category. At least not in this world.

message 13: by Brittany (new)

Brittany (BrittyJC) | 1236 comments Life of Pi was really good. They changed it a bit from the book, but the book could become tedious explaining the minor details of living, where the movie just showed it in two seconds flat

message 14: by Kay (new)

Kay (kayleeannnne) | 6 comments Perks Of Being a Wallflower. I love the book and the movie and it might just be that I saw the movie first, but I liked it better. It gave a better insight on Charlie's friends and how they felt sorry for them rather than only being from Charlie's point of view. Then again, I liked how the book showed me more that Charlie obviously has autism or Asperger's syndrome. I wouldn't have gotten that from the movie.

message 15: by A (new)

A H 3 Idiots - It's an Indian movie and the book was Five Point Someone written by Chetan Bhagat. The book was really bad, I really didn't like it but the movie on the other hand - was fabulous!

message 16: by [deleted user] (new)

LOTR. At least, they're equal. The casting was just so perfect and everything was so amazing and the music....so beautiful! I haven't read all the books, but when I started I had trouble getting into them, even though the writing is amazing.

What are you talking about? Ok, so maybe they'll never be on the IP list, but they're beautiful.

I can only think if one movie that was better than the book. How to Train Your Dragon. I tried to read it a long time ago, and I couldn't even finish it. The movie wasn't as bad as the book.

message 25: by Brandy (new)

Brandy Perez | 3 comments What about which tv shows are better than the books? I think The Vampire Diaries show is WAY better than the books. I couldn't even finish the book series because I got bored.

Agreed. Also with how the Hunger Games movie was better than the book. The books weren't terrible, but they aren't very good. I thought the movie was fantastic though.

message 27: by Neha (new)

Neha (neha71580) I have a feeling there's gonna be a lot of discussion of Books vs Movies :P.

message 28: by spidrenflora (last edited Nov 12, 2013 12:14PM) (new)

spidrenflora | 78 comments How to Train Your Dragon. The book was altogether unreadable, but the movie was vaguely enjoyable

Bridge to Terabithia. I loved the book but he movie was even better.

message 29: by [deleted user] (new)

Sad to say but the Princess Bride was better as a movie Buttercup and WIlliam Goldman annoyed me a lot less in the movie.

message 30: by Katarina (new)

Katarina | 290 comments Where the Wild things are. But that's it, I haven't EVER seen a movie that's better than the book.

message 31: by [deleted user] (new)

Warhorse. Don't get me wrong, I love the book, but the movie made it come alive for me.

message 32: by MJ (new)

MJ Woody (harpsickhord) Agreed, buttercup!

message 33: by [deleted user] (new)

The Princess Diaries ^.^. Also, I don't particularly like either, but the Twilight film was better than the book.

message 34: by Allison (new)

Allison (aamurphh) I don't know if anyone has mentioned it, but the movie Howl's Moving Castle was better than the book. Of course I absolutely loved both! But I prefer the movie a bit more than the book because of the differences in the story.

Oh! That movie was so good....!! But I'd day the book was better:)

message 36: by Bahar (new)

Bahar | 596 comments Stardust. I watched the movie first and it was great! But the book didn't turn out to be as good as the movie.

message 37: by Heather (new)

Heather Bowhay | 9 comments Beautiful Creatures! I could not hardly get through the book, and while the movie wasn't incredible, it was much more doable!

Katarina | 290 comments Heather wrote: "Beautiful Creatures! I could not hardly get through the book, and while the movie wasn't incredible, it was much more doable!"

I personally thought that the book was a lot better. The plot was a lot better and well described, in my opinion.

Lolface | 1 comments Hana's Suitcase by Karen Levine was a very sad true story about a Jewish girl and her family who were separated from each other until their deathes this story was so depressing I rate this book 5 stars.

message 41: by T (new)

T | 20 comments Well Alice in wonderland I think and it's either I watch the book of something or read it so I can't compare I've watched The MOVIES of all those stories that you all mentioned

NEVER!!! The movies will never be as good if the books came out first. They will butcher it and then people will start loving the movie and not knowing the book and it will be annoying. That is my experience with every book that is now a movie. Not devaluing anyone else's opinion, just stating mine.

message 44: by Ishbel (new)

Ishbel I can't think of a film adaptation that I can honestly say is better than the book.

message 45: by Ishbel (new)

Ishbel It May not be that the film is bad, just not the same as the book. :)

message 46: by [deleted user] (new)

actually when we read, we imagine the charecters and places according to ourselves and we often like it when someone unlike our imagination is casted

moreover, film adaptions limit our imagination. for example when we read harry potter we see danial radcliff as harry potter

I just saw Edge of Tomorrow, which is based off of the book All You Need is Kill, and I think the movie was way better. I loved the book, but I feel like the movie made it so much more and made a way better full story with an actual good ending.

I also like Pitch Perfect better in movie form!

I have also encountered some movies that are so different than the books that it's hard to judge them as the same thing so I tread them as two separate things. Exampled would be Ella Enchanted and I Am Legend.

message 48: by Lynne (new)

Lynne Stringer | 117 comments I think The Hunger Games' movies (so far, anyway) are better than the books. I also think the movie of The Princess Bride is better than the book.

message 49: by mandinmandin (new)

mandinmandin (amaah) I enjoyed "Eugene Onegin" movie more than the book. And also "Anna Karenina", "The Phantom of the Opera", "The girl who leapt through time", "The Wind in the Willows" and "The last song" :)

message 50: by Sonia (new)

Sonia | 1 comments Well if I can mention TV shows I think Vampire Diaries, Pretty Little Liars and Gossip Girl tv shows are way more interesting than the books!
