I'm glad you're back too, Sarah. The Pritkin fans are taking over and Mircea needs his defenders!! ;)
Hello everybody, I'm Maeve! I actually used to be a mod on this group but I let it slide in a major way, which sucks, but here I am back again to rejoin all the fangirling. As it's been so long since I was on here, I'm basically a newbie again so I'd better reintroduce myself: 1) I'm in Ireland right now.
2) my favourite books are The Thief series by Megan Whalen Turner, I can't recommend them highly enough to anybody who likes fantasy. Also I love all KC's book, naturally.
3) my avatar is a picture of me playing Zidler in a school production of Moulin Rouge. Fear my mighty fake moustache.
4) currently my celebrity crush is Dylan O'Brien from Teen Wolf because he is adorable and hilarious. Or maybe Steven Amell from Arrow, for the same reasons actually.
5) it would be easier to name desserts I don't like, but I do have a major weakness for banoffee pie. Magically delicious.
6) something to share? Ummmm, I guess, that I'm studying French and German in uni, so if there are any French or German speakers who ever want to chat to me, that'd be cool, cause I love practising.
Bonus: team Cassie. She may be May favourite female character of all time tbh.
So. That's me. Nice to meet you guys. Again :)
Hi Maeve! I can't remember if I ever met you before, way back when I wasn't too active in this group myself but your name sounds vaguely familiar so I must have seen you around :D! We're glad to have you back! Always good to have more people to fangirl with :3I'm Duca, currently only part-timing as a receptionist, finished my english lit degree 3 years ago. Apparently I'm also an optimist, according to Lanni! Although I've always thought of myself as a pessimist because either I'm always right or pleasantly surprised (got this right off tumblr lol). Which is the optimistic look on pessimism. So I'm optimistic about being pessimistic. Or something XD
Also I've watched the trailer for Constantine about 12 times today. I'm a big Constantine fan. Reading the comics is on my to-do list.
Thank you! I was probably active around the time you were inactive. Two ships passing in the night, lol. I never fancied the movie but with this TV show, I can foresee myself becoming a Constantine fan.

That's unacceptable. I shall punish them all. ;-)

Here! Me! *jumps up*
I'm German and I speak French which I should practise more.
This thread could be interesting for you as well.
We also had French and German discussion threads. They are archived now though.
Do we have any Japanese (speaking) people here?

It's been on my radar for a while and I actually ordered the first book a few days ago, though it hasn't arrived yet. I'm interested to give it a go, though I think it can be a little hard going at first?
I love that Midnight's Daughter was your first UF book! Personally, I think that's a great introduction to the genre, though a lot of people prefer the Cassie series round here. :) I love Kate Daniels too.
I hope you'll join in the conversations and tell us what's your favourite KC book/characters and so on. We've just today started a look back at all the Q & A posts that KC's published over the past three years, so if you aren't familiar with them, you should take a look as there's tons of new information there.

I hope you enjoy the lymond chronicles! The first book is a bit hard to get into, but after a hundred pages or so I couldn't put it down. I'll definitely go check out those Q&As, thanks for telling me about them :)

Tricky, huh! ;)
Lol, hmm. I feel like I must have missed something in prior books that would make that a closer contest, because I'm just not recalling a lot of sexy scenes featuring Marlowe. ;) Mircea on the other hand...

Bonus question for those who've read both the Cassie and the Dory books:
Are you Team Cassie or Team Dory?
Team Dory
I have only read the Dory books and I was wondering how big of role does Mircea play in the Cassie books. I want to read the Cassie books and I think it will be weird with him going from father figure to lover. How up to date are Cassie's books to Dory's
Thanks in advance to whoever answers these questions, Now I am going to go and play around in the group.
Hi Shelita, welcome to the group! Thanks for taking the time to introduce yourself. :)I'd definitely recommend you give the Cassie series a go, though she's a very different character from Dory. But if you like Mircea, you've gotta give them a shot. Mircea's arguably the best character in all the books, and you get a fuller picture when you see two different perspectives of him. Cassie understandably has a higher opinion of him than Dory. He is a very central character in the Cassie books, along with Mage Pritkin who has legions of fans!
I like hearing from people who've read the Dory books first, because their attitude towards Mircea is often different to those who read Cassie initially. First impressions are often hard to shift, and if you were introduced to Mircea as a Dad character, it's hard to see him as the seductive vampire of the Cassie books!
I hope you'll give them a try anyway, though I will say Touch the Dark is probably KC's weakest book (it was her first). As for timeline, the Dory series is slightly ahead, but the next Cassie book (Reap the Wind) is expected to catch up, so the timelines should be more or less concurrent (so I believe.)
Enjoy the group! Look forward to chatting with you and hearing about your favourite characters and scenes. It's Team Marlowe all the way for me LOL!
Welcome to the group, Shelita!
I agree with Lannister. You should give the Cassie books a try. It's really interesting to see those different sides of Mircea.

I'm in the military, I sail a lot, so I'm gone alot. I've been around the world before I was 23. I have two cats that are evil little sh*ts, but are totally awesmoe at the same time. They're just so cute! I have a thing for anime, it's been my guilty pleasure since I was probably 5. I love to write my own stories, I want to write a novel, it just seems like I never have the time :(. I'm 27, single, kidless, and loving it. I have my own home, my own things and I have no ties to anyone but the little deviles that are my furr babies. I'm a happy person, and I try my best to make everyday the best memory possable.

Hi Emily-Ann, welcome to the group. Of course you can be Team Cassie AND Team Dory! :D I'd say most people probably prefer one series (slightly) over the other, but we generally love them both. Hope you'll join in the conversations and tell us about your favourite characters/scenes etc. Have you ever read KC's Q & As. She just published a new one and we're picking over it to try to figure out what might happen next in the books! (We can be a little obsessive in this group. OK, that might just be me!!)Look forward to chatting. I'm from Scotland and can totally relate to sodding miserable weather LOL!
Welcome, Emily-Ann! It's great to have you here!
Sailor Moon definitely counts. I'm a manga and anime fan myself. :-)

Hi, Tammy and BethWelcome aboard!
So, Tammy, is pavlova a dessert? What is it like?
(This tablet is acting up and may be dying. GRRRRR! Just got it in June!)
I am a big fan of the original Pavlova, who was a fabulous ballet star 100 years ago. And of the perfume that was named after her.
Beth, do you know if the pavlova dessert goes by a different name in the US, and if so, what?
I can imagine something with sponge cake, whipped creme and all kind of light, airy things.
Beth
Hi Beth, welcome to the group, thanks for introducing yourself! Bakers and people with a sweet tooth are always welcome! ;)I see you've already been posting in the Random thread, and we do have a Food Fetishes thread in the Off-Topic folder if you make something particularly wonderful and want to share. And feel free of course to join in the other discussions and games.
Look forward to getting to know you. :)
Kathleen, a pavlova is a meringue with whipped cream and fruit on top (often strawberries or raspberries). Not sure what it might be called in the US.
@Lannister Your description of the pavlova dessert sound perfect, light and luscious. But while the description sounds somewhat familiar, I am pretty sure I've never had it or seen it on a menu. And I would have...unless maybe it is called something else here.
Now I *must* find the recipe on line and try it! May have to wait till I get back to a full kitchen, though.
Anyway, thanks for the description.
And thanks, Tammy, for mentioning it!
Kathleen, there's loads of pavlova recipes kicking around. This one looks particularly spectacular! :Dhttp://www.bbc.co.uk/food/recipes/cro...
Ooooh, Lannister, thanks! So anyone know if "corn flour" is the same as what we call "corn starch" in the US?
Is "caster sugar" the same as our "powdered sugar"?
I'm guessing that " double cream" is what we in the US call "heavy cream," yes?
"Speak the same language" is a relative term, isn't it?
Oh man, I often have this sort of problem translating from US recipes, where everything is measured in cups!On the cream, yeah, I'm fairly sure that would be your heavy cream. It's the thickest sort of cream available.
Caster sugar isn't powdered sugar (we'd call that icing sugar). I believe it's called superfine sugar in the US. Its texture is somewhere between regular and powdered sugar.
Wikipedia tells me corn flour and corn starch are the same things.
Hope that helps. Happy baking! :)
I joined the group, but I am no longer recognized as a member when I try to look for unread comments. I don't like to post a lot of likes/dislikes on the web, because of privacy issues, so I didn't fill out this questionnaire. I am enrolled as Nancy, and I hope to be able to access unread topics again. Thank you.
Hi Nancy, you're definitely recognised as a member of the group (you wouldn't be able to post otherwise!) I think this might be some sort of Goodreads notification bug. It's not something that we in the group are doing. You're certainly not being blocked in any way. Notifications aren't something group mods have any control over. You could check in the GR support group to see if anyone has had similar issues:
https://www.goodreads.com/group/show/...
Well, I've going through some threads in this group before I noticed this one, so maybe some of you have already noticed me around. Anyway, here I go!1. Where in the world are you?
Im in Buenos Aires, Argentina.
2. What's your favourite book/series?
My favorite book of all times is The Hobbit, and my favorite series is Cassie's (So, Team Cassie, he) =)
3. Tell us why you chose the avatar you have?
...
Ok, I'm on my way to fixing that.
4. Name a famous person that makes you swoon?
More people that I can count, and most of them don't even exist. But I like the elegant, slightly villanous type. I'm currently drooling over Lestat de Lioncourt =D
5. What's your favourite dessert?
A big bucket of strawberries with cream :9
6. Anything else you want to share about yourself?
Umh... I'm a big Rosier fan (don't kill me, please), to the point that I even roleplayed him in games with a friend several times xD
And that'd be all, I guess. Anything else of importance, time will tell! I hope to have fun and make friends here =)
Hi MadameGin, welcome officially to the group! :) Thanks for introducing yourself. I like Rosier too, but I'd love to hear more about this roleplaying game you did ...I also love elegant, slightly villainous types ... you know, like Marlowe. :P
Welcome, MadameGin! It's great to have you here. :-)
Mmmhh, now I want some strawberries but that's difficult in winter.
Elegant, slightly villainous type sounds good. ;-)
Mmmhh, now I want some strawberries but that's difficult in winter.

Lannister, Sarah, thank you very much!Marlowe is my second favorite in KC's universe, so yay!
And about the game... Well, this girl is my RP partner (I've trying to drag her to goodreads without success), so we did a lot of stuff together, not only about the Cassie world. Basically it would be more like collaborative writing as well as roleplaying: We think up some guidelines to give the story some direction (what is it going to be about, what things do we want to happen for sure, which other characters are we allowed to control from time to time), then we start. When we think we're reaching something that feels like the end, we put the story together by selecting each one's best POVs, and then we just... store it xD We've been considering publishing them as fanfic. But it doesn't feel right, like, we like reading what we did, but just because we know what it's supposed to be. It would be weird for a fanfic reader to have the POV change every five paragraphs or so, less sometimes xD Anyway, the final result often differs a lot from the original, because we've talked it through, and invested time to edit things that maybe were a little OOC, or changed things for others that just sound better, etc. It's pretty fun!
In the Cassie world, (and I'm talking about main characters here, not pairings!) we did some Pritkin/Rosier stories, Rosier/Cassie, Mac/Pritkin, Augustine/Casanova (this was pure crack! xD), a real funny Rosier/Casanova, and a memorable Artemis/Rosier (It was a little difficult because there's so damned little information about her, but it ended up pretty well, I think. At least we had fun n.n).
You know, you just gave me ideas. I may want to try to play Marlowe one of these days, just to see what happens!
