John | 3948 comments It's logistically easier for me to make a physical note either as I'm transferring, or just afterwards, than to have to go into my GR shelves.

Mel (chewy26) | 25 comments Hey all.,
Quick question. I got my mom to join Audible, but I'm wondering if everything will work properly because she has to use my computer to download her books and transfer them to her mp3 player. (She is not computer saavy!!). I use the Audible manager on my desktop, and wasn't sure if two accounts can access the downloads on the same computer. Anyhooooo... I just wanted to make sure that I can do this because the last thing I want to deal with is a pop up box stating that she can't do this. Does anyone know?

HJ Mel wrote: "Hey all.,

Just thinking laterally, is her mp3 player one which you could download the Audible app onto? I've found it much easier to download books using the app rather than the computer.

message 310: by Mel (new)

Mel (chewy26) | 25 comments Hj, I'm not sure. Its a sandisk clip. I think its too small to download the app onto. It only holds 4gb.

message 311: by Verena (new)

Verena (pidgeon92) | 60 comments Mel, perhaps try giving her her own logon on your computer? Then she can use her own copy of the app.

message 312: by Dee (new)

Dee (austhokie) | 1962 comments any reason why she can't just use your account and share books? my mom and I do this since we both listen

message 313: by Mel (new)

Mel (chewy26) | 25 comments @verena. Yes she has her own log on info and pays for her own audio books, credits and such.
@Dee. I purchase way too many books to have her on my account. She will get flustered trying to find her audio book. Also, she doesn't really need to know what I'm reading. I'm not 12. So, there are many different reasons why two adults don't need to share an account.

I think what Verena was saying was not a separate Audible account but a separate account (username) on your home computer. She could then have her own desktop icons etc all set up to make it easier for her. That would keep her books separate from yours.

message 315: by Mel (new)

Mel (chewy26) | 25 comments @Leslie, hmm. Well I thought that I had originally explained that she does indeed have her own account, username included, but just not her own computer... Anyway, I figured things out.

To make a long story short. We tinkered around with it, and the answer is yes. It is possible. To begin, we were unable to create an additional. audible icon for the desktop Even with her own separate account, any attempts to download the icon/program were futile because we were consistently told that the program already exists.(Which is does, and the last thing I need is to 'temporarily lose' all my downloaded books bc I downloaded over my audiblemanager program with her new--virtually empty one.) Moving on... the books are downloaded onto my computer's hard drive/download folder. ITUNES is the program that we needed to have access to in order for the download to be completed. This is where the situation got iffy. Audible's download manager took a very long time to complete the download. It was discovered that ITUNES needed permission from the user (my mother) for AUDIBLE to send the downloaded audio files to the ITUNES media location. This was easily done by my mother giving her user name and password as authorization. After a few minutes, the download (for one book) was completed and the book was located on the ITUNES interface. Because Audible files are distinctly different from mp3, mp4 and, wma files, ect... The audible file had to be located within the ITUNES audible folder and directed to the AUDIBLEMANAGER program. This is the only way to get the audible file onto her sandisk. (Had she an ipod, this step would have been unnecessary.) And voila... my mother is one more step closer to being a little more media savvy.

Thanks for the input everyone. Crisis averted :P

Happy Reading/Listening!
Mel

it was just an idea - I guess since my mom and I pretty much share everything when it comes to books, I don't care about having her on my account - but its easy to find her books in the audible library - you search by title - just offering an option - in the off-chance that you might have a book(s) already that she might be interested in

CatBookMom | 1082 comments Did someone ask (maybe not this exact thread) about how to know how many Audible books you own? Well, if you have a Kindle, your Manage My Kindle account has all of your Audible books in it, and you can select to list (in Manage My Kindle) only your Audible audiobooks. Since 2007, I've accumulated too many, that is, nearly 600.

Which includes 30 'free first chapters', which you can't delete; I tried today. Sent an email to 'greatideas@audible.com' per the suggestion of the helpful but unable-to-help CS person.

I'd also like to be able to rid My Library of those extraneous sample first chapters. I've noticed the Listener Page will say how many books I've bought so far this year, but I haven't noticed a total for my entire library. Just so you'll feel better, I'll admit to 1,434 individual titles in my Audible Library--which translates to over 2,500 items in my library because that's how they count--the individual parts, not titles alone. Due to the great sales last year I bought 502 books and read a little over 300 of them. My goal this year is to buy fewer books than I read... . haven't met that goal so far and I've read 90 books this year. Fewer good Audible sales would help, but I'm not hoping for that kind of help.

CatBookMom | 1082 comments You are a shining example to us all! Applause, applause!

I listened to and read just over 270 books last year and thought I did well. Last month I finished 44 books but that was only due to some seriously long bouts of ill health and eye-reading voraciously; I couldn't possibly do that many audiobooks in a month.

I was pleased to see this, but I can't seem to do it. I'm in Manage my Kindle, but I can't see how to "select to list ... only your Audible audiobooks". I thought it would be in the dropbox for View.

I just searched for one of my audiobooks as a check that it was in the list, and it isn't. I suspect I know the answer - we don't have Whispersync in the UK, and so audiobooks aren't in our Kindle lists.

Am I right, Audible? Any news on when Whispersync will come to the UK?

Hi HJ! At this time, Whispersync for Voice is still unavailable in the UK and we are not sure of when it will be made available.

If you have any questions about Audible UK or Amazon UK, I recommend reaching out to their Customer Care department. They will be able to help you with your account questions and Whispersync for Voice inquiries. Even though Audible UK and Amazon UK are part of the Amazon family, they operate independently.

Please contact UK support at:

I bought it on or near its Audible release date, but that was some time after the book was released in print. I'm a little spoiled by Audible in that nowadays virtually all the books I want are released the same day as the print version. I will say for the record though that I was willing to wait as long as it meant having the same narrator, Katheryn Kellgren. The Dresden Files taught me that wanting the audiobook no matter what on the same day as the print book doesn't always work out so well *cough, Ghost Story, cough*

I waited 4 days for a reply, and THEN I got the most ineffective email that said that someone would get back to me after they review whether my request could be made. Seriously? I just deleted the portion of my account that they should have just fixed. I was not impressed.

Hi Mel,

We're sorry that our response to your request took longer than it should have and that your experience was not satisfactory. Please email social-support@audible.com and we will directly follow up with you as soon as possible to help you out.

Thanks for your patience and for being an Audible customer.

Have a great day.

Jeanie | 4024 comments I bought two books by Charlotte MacLeod in the Peter Shandy series, "Vane Pursuit" and "An Owl Too Many". Each was missing the final chapter even though the narrator gave the concluding information about copyrite etc. at the end. I have two more books in the series as yet unread and so don't know if they are complete. So, how do I get full copies of the books I bought?

message 332: by Monique (new)

Monique | 10 comments I've had some issues with Some Girls Bite by Chloe Neill skipping. I emailed support and got multiple answers of we can refund the credit and then another saying that they can't reproduce it. I'm not sure what the deal is. I also think there is a mixing issue with twice tempted by Jeanine frost. There is no pause between most of the chapters, I emailed on this and never received any answer other than provide examples of when it was happening, which I did. Any help on that would be great too. Thanks.

message 333: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 4024 comments Following up my last post, I went back and re-downloaded the two incomplete books. Evidently a complaint from a reviewer had caused someone to fix the problem after my first download so I'm all set now.

Monique, have you tried re-downloading? It may not solve every problem, but skipping might be a download issue rather than a recording issue. good luck!

I'm glad you got some information at least. But I think Audible should consider implementing a policy that content request emails should at least be acknowledged upon receipt with some sort of statement letting the person know of the possible long delay in a final answer. It's very frustrating when you send an email and get no response at all.

I've done the same, but that doesn't really give me the information I want. A follow-up when the title is available would be more helpful. I've long been asking for a Notify Me When option so I don't have to check on my favorite authors/titles fruitlessly.

Have you thought about downloading everything why you still have a windows machine? You can use software to convert the file to MP3 if that helps. It's a bit of step but you can do it.

There isn't a great way. I know that Aimersoft works, and I think the basic package is $20. You don't need the Pro version. I have seen post by people using Sound Taxi and that seems to work.

Basically, you are re-recording the Audiobook and it seems to take about as long as the audiobook. And... I fear computer beeps and noises would also get recorded so you don't want to be suffering around the net or watching youtube while converting the audiobook to MP3. I would just start a different file each night.

You might run into trouble with the "aax" files which is the audible enhanced version. If so, you can download the version 4 (aa file). Normally you shouldn't have a problem.

For any of these software programs, turn the volume on the computer up to max. You can turn off the external speakers so you don't hear it, but the little speaker icon should be turned up. It probably is anyway.

BTW - for audiobooks I always use Mono for the converted output. I see no benefit to a Stereo file for audiobooks. Mono makes the size smaller.

As you plow through my convoluted instructions forwarded to you by J., keep in mind that everything is done with Freeware, as in no cost except for time.

Also, it probably seems involved because of the way I wrote the instructions (everything I do is "involved"). A little practice is all it really takes.

There is a bit of a tricky part I forgot to mention when I sent my instructions to J: file naming. When you burn the AA files to virtual CDs, then rip those CDs to MP3, you have to be a little creative with how you name the output files in both cases.

There are options in Daemon Tools Lite (the virtual Audio CD burner) and Audiograbber (the MP3 ripper) to use numeric indices as part of the file names. The options aren't hard to figure out, and it helps you keep track of things like disc number and track number by inserting those into the filenames.

You do have to be used to working with filenames to keep everything straight. It may be that the paid software recommended by Bill is a better option for the sake of simplicity.

Also, there was a much greater omission in my instructions to J which I will have to try to repair with another set of instructions. It has to do with the "MP3 Tags" in each MP3 file. Those tags are used by Media Players to identify album names, track numbers, and track titles. Unfortunately none (or few) of those tags wind up on the output MP3 files created as described in my older instructions, and so have to be inserted using more freeware:

File Renamer Basic

MP3 Tag Tools

I'll have to go offline with the instructions for that process, then forward them to you and J.

Happy Listening,
Alan Mintaka
