Other issues (Audible)
Ok. I was wrong. I was downloading the Audible books in .aa format (I thought it was .mp3) and then the format had changed to .aax. I talked to Audible and they told me to make a change in the "Audio Quality" box, which is on right, above the list of books in My Library. When I made the change to Format 4, I could then download in .aa format which works better for me. Sorry I got you excited about .mp3, which would be an even better format for all of us.
Has anyone checked out the other formats?
These days, I almost exclusively download Audible books (enhanced aax) directly to my phone or Fire.
As to quality, my ears may be old. I have converted some of my audible books to MP3s. Can't tell the difference.
If your converting from aa or aax to mp3 the Quality would not be able to improve only be as good as what you started with, If it was a case of downloading an mp3 that would depend on what the file bit rate had been encoded at. Once you download a file it can only be as good as that quality even if you encode at a higher bit rate.
But if you download a .aa and compare it to a .aax file you would hear the difference if using headphones
binter wrote: "Wait, what?! That would be wonderful. Can it be true?"Although not convenient, the only way I know of how to get Audible books into mp3 format is to burn the file to a physical mp3 CD which breaks the copy protection, and then put them into iTunes or your player.
It's a real PITA but it works.
Deano, I suppose I would hear the difference with headphones, but the only time I have headphones is at lunch, exercise or yard work. Most of the time, I hear it through car speakers. And spoken word quality isn't a big deal to me. Even when ripping CDs, I rip music at a higher bit rate than spoken word. And I never rip spoken word CDs in stereo, always mono.I use sound taxi for conversion which is a fast form of play and record, which is David's point.
John wrote: "I had no idea Audible books are convertible to mp3? Where did THAT come from???"We should have clarified in our response. Very sorry about that.
We can help you download your audiobook to Windows Media Player instead of iTunes, but the files will remain in .AA/.AAX as they normally are to protect the intellectual rights of our providers.
If anyone would like assistance in downloading to Windows Media Player, rather than iTunes, please contact us and we'll be happy to help.
We apologize for any misunderstanding in our response. Thank you for understanding.
My badge for Audible Obsessed isn't working, it hasn't shown and I have listened every day for 7 days since switching to my new phone. With my other phone it gave me the badge after 7 days as it should. It's an IPhone and I'm slowly gaining my badges back but for some reason this badge won't show.
No my doesn't show either, but I get fed up every time I get a new phone and have to start again!! I don't bother with it anymore

"We don't need no stinkin' badges"...I think with the last major update, on android at least, the stats were all reset.
The stats in all honestly are totally worthless given they aren't backed up online and rely on some locally stored copy on your CURRENT phone.
I wish they put their effort into their web site, instead of frivolous stuff like this, namely wishlist and library management.
It's not the fact that it resets that bothers me, it's that now even though I have listened for almost 2 weeks straight for a minimum of 1 hour a day I have not earned the badge despite being half way to earning the silver level. And since my 1st comment I have been awarded a badge that I should not have been, which is odd. It's as though it doesn't register that the app has been closed day to day and is counting it as one consecutive day or something- which is odd.

Any updates to when/if the November purchase calculator is going to be up and running so we know how many of our purchases qualify for the $10 bonus??
Kathy wrote: "Suddenly my "wish list" has turned into a "hit list." My wish list said that a few minutes ago, but if you click on the books, they're still available.
ETA: The glitch is worse than usual. Some of the books I can click on and they are available. Others aren't. Wait and try again later, and everything will probably be back to normal.
Wow, the website is really having problems this morning. I'm getting error messages all over the place, and books are jumping around on my wish list. Someone reported on Audible's facebook page that they've been having trouble purchasing and downloading for the past 24 hours. Hope they get this fixed soon.
I'm in the US, and 7 of my 71 wish list books now say that, including one of the Audible "A-List" books that Audible has produced. Makes me think it must be a technical issue. I'm not going to panic yet.
Yeah I thought it was just me. I'm having issues with everything, searching, adding to cart, checkout.
I'm cross-posting in hopes of getting an Audible rep to notice: there's a lot of chat in the "Buy 4, $10 opportunities" thread (http://tinyurl.com/pkpuznd) about people getting very bad responses from Customer Service about their $10 not being credited. The rules for these offers are really straight-forward, but the CS people don't seem to understand, particularly that it's the 'regular' price that needs to be $14.95 or more, not what people have paid, or that they've used credits. Some have been promised callbacks that never came. Isn't there something that can be done to educate the CS people? The formerly very-high level of Audible service is dropping like a stone.
Dear Audible - can you PLEASE spend some resources fixing the My Library search function? Today I wanted to verify that I owned a version of *King Solomon's Mines* - searches of My Library came back with no results, either the book or the author. So I came back to Goodreads, searched my books, and found I'd bought it in 2013. So I finally went back by date purchased, page by page at Audible, and found it. Honestly, it seems that the search function is getting worse. Even when you happen to type a search term that it recognizes (because it won't search for just any terms), it so often doesn't find anything that should be in one's My Library.
CatBookMom--I find it much easier to search my library through the app than on the website. I can even search by narrator!!! That's something I've wanted to do on the website for as long as I've been with Audible.

OK, Audible, if you've done it for the app, you can surely do it for the website!

I don't even know how to find my bookmarks from within the app, perhaps I never needed to know before this, or has it changed?
when you search your shelves - is it set to all-time purchases, no limited to 6mths prior? (i always verify that before searching)
Bec, on the iOS app, click on the top right-hand corner, and then Bookmark. I know this because I have frequently had to delete a bookmark which I created by accident!
They do. But some people like to be reminded of certain passages, I guess.
Dee wrote: "when you search your shelves - is it set to all-time purchases, no limited to 6mths prior? (i always verify that before searching)"Oh, yes. Don't you hate it when you adjust the time span and it comes back with no books listed (can't find your entire library) and you have to try again? Makes me worry about their database software, and very glad I decided to keep my own hard drive copies of My Library.

Regarding the Library issues, all known issues are being worked on by our development teams. We will send your feedback to our teams to escalate the fix.
Thank you for your patience.
Thanks, Audible!I like the app a lot - if only the regular library had the same sort, hide already read, etc. features, too!

Thank you for responding. I realize that to the development teams, it's probably more exciting to be working on apps, but there are a lot of us who still primarily use, and will continue to use, the PC-based software, and we have a LOT of books to manage. So please, try to get The Powers That Be to share resource allocations with us.

We will definitely share your concerns with the team. Also, we have made them aware of library feature requests similar to the app to enhance the desktop library. Hopefully we can make them happen for you guys!
Feel free to send any ideas or suggestions to greatideas@audible.com. We have a dedicated team that monitors and escalates top requests to developers.
Thank you!
Thank you Audible. Is there a different address for web page errors?
I called early when the Simon Vance instead of Simon Prebbles error went up during the narrator promotion. It was never corrected so I didn't bother reporting the Daily Deal description error
I am with CatBookMom and use only my PC and old Ipod Classic for audiobooks. Economic and eyesight problems preclude the purchase of new toys, no matter how shiny. It is marvelous to be read to by the usually, totally great narrators. Thank you to all of them.
Mobile devices. Not toys. Not gadgets. Mobile devices.
Thank you :-)
Thank you :-)
OK, "toys" may be a bit dismissive, but when a person doesn't actually need the device or its cost is prohibitive, then it falls into the category of "non-essential"--like toys and gadgets. Now that I'm retired, I can't justify to myself buying a new smart phone because my computer handles all the functions it would do for me. If I did get one, it would seem like a mere toy. For those who need and use one, it is essential and no toy at all. One man's meat...

Personally, I'd never think of saying or writing "mobile devices"; don't take offense. I call my non-iPod players, 'audio players'.

Great question! If you notice any site errors, please email us at siteerrors@audible.com and our team will look into it immediately. Thanks!
I have a question about credits for returns. Occasionally I return a book when I really didn't like it, or I try out something really different and it's a mistake. I greatly appreciate the option of a return and how easy it is. I was sure that in the past the credit showed up on my Audible account but recently it just goes to my credit card. The bottom line is the same, but the psychological impact is totally different. If I got a credit on Audible, I'd probably spend it immediately toward another book, even adding more money to it. But because it goes to the credit card, I just forget about it. Sure I have that extra money and could use it on Audible, but I just don't, and I bet others are the same way.
I wondered if there's some kind of regulation that requires Audible to credit the card rather than giving the equivalent of "store credit". Or maybe we could check off "return for refund on your credit card" or "return for credit on your Audible.com account".
As far as I know, their policy is that you get back exactly what you spent on that specific title. So, if say, you used $4.86 from a $10 promo credit, then you get $4.86 of Audible credit back in your account, etc.
Anyone else having problems with the audible app after the latest update?? The app won't open all the way the audible logo screen comes on then closes.I am having a bad audiobook day first I was going to listen to the new Mary Higgins Clark from Overdrive but it is a WMA (which I thought they were phasing out) and now audible won't open.
