Yea I thought we owned the rights to that audiobook. If they loose the rights we loose the book!!!!So if audible closed (unlikely but still possible)
We own nothing????
How is this better than paying a subscription to have access to all books for the time of the subscription like other site do??
I'm worried now!!
I had bought several books by Suzanne Enoch, and they were all taken down from the site the next year, but I was still able to download anytime. Since then, one of them has returned to Audible. But I am worried about them switching narrators on me. I think they did that with a Nora Roberts book last year. I can't remember if everyone was notified beforehand or not about the change. I just remember people talking about the change, but not whether they had a choice of versions or not.
Hello Everyone,James Lee Burke (Dave Robicheaux series) - narrator Will Patton...As good as it gets, so they say. Sexy, gritty, and heart warming as well.....please check one out at your local library---highly recommend 'Tin Roof Blowdown' (Burke's personal account of Katrina) & 'Last Car to Elysian Fields'.....you will like Clete Purcell, Dave's brother in arms.
Well, I can understand that if distribution rights of a particular edition change, they may no longer be able to make it available in your library for legal reasons - ie if they are considered a distribution service, not a storage service. But I'm not a lawyer, so who knows?
But I was more than surprised that the edition I'd bought changed narrators without warning or notification. Definitely a reason to download your purchases.

It would be different if Audible was a subscription service where we had access to b..."I am able to download many parts at a time, although from time to time some weird glitch appears when I queue up a large number. Last year I decided to download the enhanced versions of all the books in My Library and sometimes had as many as 75 books queued. This worked fine most of the time but every now and then a book took forever to download so it slowed the whole process. Now that I have all my books downloaded in Enhanced format and saved to an external hard drive--one with 4 terabites of storage--I keep up with books as I buy them so rarely have over 5 books at a time, but I can queue them all up and do other things while they download and have no problems *runs to goe touch wood*
I think audible now have the option if downloading the book in a single file. I prefer that, personally, as it still contains all the chapter info, but I only have one file to deal with.HBJ
Deano wrote: "Can the one file thing be done on the PC too?"Yes, that's how I do it. The reason I re-downloaded my entire Library using the enhanced format was to have all my books available each as a single file. I do nearly all my listening using my PC--a small portable netbook, to be precise. It fits in my purse yet has a keyboard that is 95% regular size.

I can still download the books from my Library, but there's no book page for them. And indeed it's annoying to me that one book in particular has been 'fixed' (problem with narrator using different voices than in previous books in the series), but isn't offered to me, as an owner, at less than a credit cost.
Having a book *in your Library* be modified - that's really scary, and makes me glad I've downloaded all of my Library to my external hard drive. Gotta go update that for recent purchases....

I had to be careful not to queue up too many; the system will actively download only 2 books at a time, and more than that will be paused until one of the others has finished. Sometimes it takes quite a while for a part to be done, often there are some messages regarding 'file cleanup'. So I would suggest that you closely monitor the process, and only put 3-4 into the queue at once, filling in more as they finish.

I just downloaded (almost) all of my non-listened-to Audible titles, roughly 20; I'm a heavily library borrower. I'm not concerned about the ones I've already read.

I downloaded mine in Format 4, since I use a Sansa Clip. I wound up doing subdirectories by year of purchase. That created some confusion for Audible Manager, but recently I had to re-install it for another problem, and that seemed to take care of the issue. This external drive is part of my regular backup, so I've got 'belt and suspenders' going.

Nothing wrong with "belt and suspenders" when it comes to data backup. I keep my audiobooks on a NAS, to protect against single drive failure, and back that up to a single external drive (in case I delete something by mistake, or something gets corrupted). Mainly just photos and audiobooks, so the disks aren't that big.HBJ
I download everything to an external hard drive. My ITUNES is backed up to an external hard drive. My books are in my ITUNES library. I have movies as well as books and those really eat space so I have 5.5T on the NAS. Thankfully, storage is cheap. For books and ITUNES. My external drive was drive E. One day Windows 7 decided to reassign drive letters and it was drive E no more. Maybe it was drive F. I feared that if the software promptly synced my NAS to the new drive E, my ITUNES library and Audiobooks on the NAS would be no more. I have since fixed that. I have assigned the ITUNES drive as Drive Q and that seems to fix the Windows issue.
I use FreeFileSync. It does a fair job and I can use windows scheduler to turn it on everyday and backup changes. I use the "mirror" function so the sync is one way. Whatever is on Drive Q is mirrored on the NAS. If anyone has suggestions of better software, let me know. I worry that if Drive Q crashes or if something gets deleted by accident, the NAS will auto delete it as well defeating the purpose of backup.
Anyway - my tip of the day is to name any external drive with a letter that isn't likely to be swapped with another drive. Maybe any letter after J. That seems to work.
Another tip - Carbonite is cheap but remember that retrieving files from the cloud is slow. Also, Carbonite wants to restore in the same file structure that you backed up. It takes a long time and it is messy.
Bill, that sounds like a nice setup.I have a synology NAS which is expensive, but totally rocks. It runs it's own OS (based on Linux), so it does it's own periodic disk checks, automatic backup to an external disk, ups support, support for windows and Mac, remote access via ios or android apps, streams media to chromecast.
I love this thing. As I say, its not cheap, even for a NAS. But hard disks fail too often not to have a backup plan.
HBJ
I looked at Synology products and I recall them being expensive. I think the cost has come down since then. Those just now planning a NAS solution should give it a look. I ended up with 2 MyBooks but still... house burns down, my data is cooked. I should probably think about an offsite backup as well. Just a quick backup of the iTunes library would be a big help.

Do you use the basic or the mirror option. I'm wondering if I should switch to mirror.
Janice,I stopped using Carbonite. It's been so long I don't recall what I used. When I did restore to a new computer, it was a different operating system and my folders where in different places so I ended up downloading folder by folder.
Ah, my people. I was afraid I was the only one. I have (2) 4TB drives in my home computer, one being a mirror of the other. I've been meaning to get a 4TB external to serve as a second mirror. I'm thinking I would do weekly backups and store it offsite...or maybe in a fire safe.I was previously using the first version of the mediasmart home server. It wasn't bad, but came with some headaches. That's what I get for being an early adopter. In the end I decided I wanted my data to stay in a format I was familiar with.
JMy safe deposit box is pretty cheap. You could toss it in there with your will, house deed, car titles and living will.
Jan wrote: "Hmmmmm...may have to rethink. Thanks for pointing that out, Joy."I've been seeing "media protection" on some of the fire safe's I've looked at. I probably won't burn down my house to test it though.
Fire Safe
I use a Time Machine drive on my iMac, maintain a carbonite account in the event of a catastrophe at home, and keep my most critical files on dropbox. A good backup plan is essential to keeping data. It amazes me how many people have no backups whatsoever.
I have a Zoolz online backup system in place. It is cheap and I have an unlimited storage. I have all my non audible audiobooks backed up, plus my photos and home videos.
I just noticed that they changed the option to search books that have been released in the last 10 days on the advanced search page. What a pain. I use this page weekly to see the new releases in the categories I'm interested in because not all new releases show up on their new release page. Now I have to search through a month's worth of releases per category each week to see what I missed. Why do they keeping making changes to the site that make things harder for the customers?
Michael wrote: "I have a Zoolz online backup system in place. It is cheap and I have an unlimited storage. I wouldn't mind if I could just back up folders without having to back up structure. And if I could then just download to whatever I wanted - say an external drive.

Yes, you can back up by folder. There are some quick backup options that backup everything by type, but I just do it by folder. You can backup just individual files too. You can restore to whereever, and restore just individual files.

That is annoying. I was the same using the coming soon page. It is just unreal the stuff they keep doing when the wishlist and library is so unmanageable.
I'm having another problem with search and was wondering if it's just me. Whenever I click on the box to show 50 books per page then go to page 2, it starts showing 20 books per page again. It's happening in 2 different browsers, but Audible says it's only happening to me. Also, whenever I search like that and go to another page, many of the same books show up again. I know I must always be missing out on seeing certain books whenever I search. That last has been a problem for me since sometime last year, and I've mentioned it to Audible before but it still hasn't been fixed.

I apologize if this has been posted, but I'm not going through 950 posts to check.I have a couple pet peeves about the wish list. I have more books in my wish list than in my library. I would like to be able to search through it a bit easier, as I can with the owned audiobooks. I would really like it if there was a search field for the wish list as there is in the owned library. It would be much more user-friendly.
Also, when I try to sort the wishlist by author, it kicks me back to the homepage every time. I can sort by title or wish date, but not by author.
Diane, I have the exact same issues and wishes. I've complained via their feedback form to Audible a few times, but there haven't seemed to be any changes...
Every one I know complains about this. I can only suggest keep sending the request in to the suggestions email.
Diane I would like to be able to move my wish list around so I can number the top 5 or so I would like to for sure purchase next but alas my wish has yet to be granted :)
Heidi *Listen. I'll just keep talking anyway. * wrote: "Diane I would like to be able to move my wish list around so I can number the top 5 or so I would like to fore sure purchase next but alas my wish has yet to be granted :)"That would be a really nice feature to have.
A klunky way to re-organize the Wish List is to put books in the Cart and then return them to the WL in the order you want. Books returned to the WL go to the top of the list so pulling out a top five is relatively easy. All you have to remember is to return your fifth preference first and continue in reverse order since they "stack up" above each other on the list. This is easy for re-arranging a few books, but not for a large number, and a system built into the WL would be better... once they get the search functions in the WL and Library fixed, that is. *sighs*
Jeanie: Your strategy for getting your most desired books to the top of the wish list made me chuckle. I think it's neat.
Does anyone have a recommendation as to what I should do in this situation? I was listening to One Plus One by Jojo Moyes on a long distance car trip. Along the way, two voices from two different chapters were playing at the same time. I kept restarting the chapter and doing a soft reboot on my phone because I thought it was my device, but I finally realized it must have been an error in the recording. I continued to listen, but there was a gap in the book where I was completely lost. Suggestions?
Carole wrote: "Does anyone have a recommendation as to what I should do in this situation? I was listening to One Plus One by Jojo Moyes on a long distance car trip. Along the way, two voices from two different..."From Audible?
First, try re-downloading and check that chapter to see if it's better.
If not, report it to Audible and even return the book if they don't have a fix for it.
If you were loving the book, go to a library or bookstore and read the missing chapter, or see if the library has the audio and finish with their copy.
Fortunately, it doesn't happen very often, but I do hate it when such problems interfere with reading or finishing a book.

Yes, Jeanie, from Audible. Thanks for the advice. I looked at the reviews and didn't see any such problems reported, so maybe it is a dowloading problem??? I'll check it out. Thanks for the advice.

Once I cleared out the memory, the audio worked just fine.
