I have a question about the time an audiobook is released on its release day. I sincerely apologize if this has been asked/answered here already. If my billing address is in the ET zone, why do I have to wait until about 0415 ET to have a pre-order available for download?I do realize this highlights my book addiction and the fact that I've been known to stay up most of the night for books that I've been anxiously awaiting. It was painful switching between kindle and the audible app to see if the new Patricia Briggs novel was available in audio yet.
Thanks for listening and answering us here on goodreads as well as having an excellent customer service team and policy.

Sadly, the actual timeof release seems to vary and I've learned not to count on being able to stay up long enough to get the book when first available in my Library. I've actually fallen asleep pressing the refresh button--uncertain reward for staying up even longer means the adrenalin rush is over and sleep will follow soon.
Here I thought I was compulsive checking for new books again later in the day as they seem to add a second batch often.
John wrote: "Here I thought I was compulsive checking for new books again later in the day as they seem to add a second batch often."No, John, not compulsive... prudent. That's my diagnosis and I'm sticking to it!
Michael wrote: "Odd, I get an email sent to me when a preorder is now available."Well, yeah, there's that. But there's no predicting when that email wil arrive. I've received them as early as 12:30 a.m. or as late as 8:45 a.m. and a couple of times I got the email but nothing in my Library and once no email and no pre-ordered book on the release date--it took a call to CS to solve that one. And besides, not every book released on Audible is available for pre-order, hence the checking and re-checking later in the day.
FYI- Another audiobooks group here on Goodreads recently discovered someone on eBay selling access to their Audible account, and instructing the buyer to purchase books and after listening, to return them for more credits. This is not ok! I'm pretty sure Audible members can't sell or transfer membership or account access. And Audible offers returns in good faith, which I appreciate. If people are trying to scam the system, it could cause the return policy to become more restrictive for the rest of us. A couple of us reported this to Audible so maybe it's gone now. I do think Audible would notice if one account was returning everything they bought! There's really no need for this kind of scam. Audiobooks are widely available free through libraries, librivox, etc. And Audible has a free trial, reduced rates, all kinds of specials. Or just find a friend with a membership. I have dozens of books and I have only downloaded them to one device. With my membership, I am allowed to download them to several additional devices, so a friend or family member could also listen to them on a different device at no charge. Of course, they would have to like what I have bought!
Hello Audible. I recently switched to Light Listener status and had the understanding that I could still participate in the sales but it appears this is not the case because when I click on the links people list here on Goodreads I get a message that I am not eligible. Could you please update me on the terms of the Light Listener membership (i.e. what sales I can participate in??) p.s. I can't look this up on Audible because the Light Listener membership is not listed. Thank you!!

I called them. They said they would escalate because I should be. They promised me an email. Never heard from them.

I accidentally clicked on the stars for a book in my Audible library on the Audible site) that I hadn't actually read yet). I looked for a way to clear the rating and couldn't find one. The customer service rep who responded to my query told me there doesn't seem to be one.How can this be? Seems like the most basic of features, to be able to clear your rating! I use ratings as my way of telling which books I've read, since there's no other satisfactory method - but this screws up even that inadequate method.
Another example of how, IMO, Audible really needs to expend some resources on Library and Wish List. Meanwhile, in my pathetic effort at expressing my unhappiness (and to help me see that I haven't in fact read the book), I'm leaving the rating for that book at one star...
On another note, how come Audible reps respond in such a sporadic manner to the comments on these Audible threads?
To address your last point, being a liaison with Goodreads is a small part of the Audible rep's job, so it's a matter of getting to it when they can.

John wrote: "To address your last point, being a liaison with Goodreads is a small part of the Audible rep's job, so it's a matter of getting to it when they can."Hmm, I only partially buy that as an explanation. They seem to respond extremely promptly to simpler technical questions, and rarely if ever to more "substantive" types of complaints or issues, even when repeated by multiple people over a longer period of time (see, eg, the topic about the bug with the green checks in the download column).
the simplest explanation is probably that the only response they can give -- "we'll take your issue to our technical team" -- won't provide much satisfaction anyway. i posted a few times with complaints about the iOS app deleting my data and finally got a "we'll submit the bug" reply. about a year later, part of my issue was addressed in an app update.
Heidi *Listen. I'll just keep talking anyway. * wrote: "Hello Audible. I recently switched to Light Listener status and had the understanding that I could still participate in the sales but it appears this is not the case because when I click on the li..."Hey Heidi,
Great question! The Light Listener plan caters to our customers who wish to receive special discounts without being enrolled into a standard monthly membership.
For an annual (not monthly) charge of just $9.95, you will enjoy the following benefits:
* Access to selective Member-Only sales periodically throughout the year.
* The ability to retain and use any accumulated credits for up to one year.
*The option to re-enroll into a monthly or annual credited membership at any time.
Light Listeners will be eligible for any sale that doesn't have credit criteria (unless you have unused credits available) since this is a non-credit membership. So, for the BOGO or 3 for 2 sales, you won't be eligible unless you have at least 2 credits available left over from your previous membership.
Hope this helps!

The custome..."A former computer glitch caused me to act on the link prior to the one I clicked rather than the one I wanted and this caused many accidental ratings of books every time I downloaded a book that wasn't first on the page. When I discovered these accidental ratings couldn't be erased, I worked to fix the computer glitch but couldn't fix the ratings.
Over time I've also discovered that my feelings about a book may change and I might rate it higher or lower than when I immediately finished reading it.
This fact combined with the inability to change a rating caused me to stop rating books too soon after reading them. Of course this often means I never get back to them to rate or, by the time I do, I can't clearly remember my impressions of the book.
The unintended consequence of not letting me change my rating for a book is that I will never rate it at all.
Seems to me Audible might want to consider revising their inflexible rating system.
I was searching for a book mentioned by another GR member and on the audible.com page for the book there is a rating of one star with one rating only. If you click on the Amazon review tab from that page there are seven ratings and they average 4.5; if you click on the audible ratings tab it says there are no audible.com reviews. If I was Michelle Black who wrote Seance in Sepia, I would hate to have my book summarized as one star on audible. http://www.audible.com/pd/Fiction/Sea...I submitted this to the audible.com tech team.
Ann wrote: "I was searching for a book mentioned by another GR member and on the audible.com page for the book there is a rating of one star with one rating only. It sounds like only one person rated the book on Audible, and they gave it one star but did not leave a review. Amazon reviews don't go into the Audible ratings - nor should they, IMO, since those reviewers are likely not rating the audiobook. I'd be unhappy if it were otherwise; I know that when I look at the rating summaries on Audible, I'm only interested in knowing the opinions of those who have listened to the audiobook.
I can agree with that Just-a Cat, too bad they didn't elaborate on why their review-less ranking was only one star. Justacat wrote: "I know that when I look at the rating summaries on Audible, I'm only interested in knowing the opinions of those who have listened to the audiobook. "
Ooooh, frustration! The Audible programming team seems to have been working on their sorting function for My Library - there now are nice lozenges that pop up when you search for books or authors. Whee. But when you select one of those names, nothing happens; pressing Enter doesn't work either. I've had to go refresh the browser page, and sometimes that blanks the search box. And the feature that gives you a brief description of a book when you hover over the title is gone, too.
Is anyone else finding this frustrating situation? I know, from others who post here, that I don't begin to have the largest library.
Please, Audible, work on the mechanics of your search function, not the pretty colors and borders.
Ann wrote: "I was searching for a book mentioned by another GR member and on the audible.com page for the book there is a rating of one star with one rating only. I guess the reviewer has to write something before their name shows up?
CatBookMom wrote: "Ooooh, frustration! But the hover function is gone for me too - I used to be able to hover over the cover, or on the ipad, tap the cover once, and see a description of the book's features; now the cover just acts like a link, which is very annoying. I liked to be able to see things like length and narrator (since inexplicably there is no narrator field in the library) without having to leave the library.

I have exactly the same problem. Credits in my account, even though it is Listener Light and not included in sales. I am pretty darn sure I used to get access to all sales even with my meager little Listener Light status. Frustrating.

We can be involved in the Daily Deal or sales that involved reduced prices but none that have anything to do with credits. Of course since I switched to a Light Listener a few months ago ALL they have had have been BOGO type credit sales! My luck!
Forney_bill wrote: "I got an email for the $10 April deal. And I am light."The $10 sale doesn't involve credits specifically so we are eligible -- it is mostly the BOGO type sales we can't join in on.
John wrote: "I believe the last of these "Buy 4" offers specified you HAD to spend credits."Srsly? I spent 2 credits and bought 2 Whispersync'd books for cash, and my 'counter' showed I'd filled all 4 book requirements.

And the feature that gives you a brief description of a book when you hover over the title is gone, too. I have over 1000 books in my library. I want to see the brief description from my books not jump back to the book or author listing every time I think I might want to listen to one again.
Hi all! I'm new to the Group and I have a question for users of the Audible for Android app that enables you to listen to your Audible book library from your phone. I have a Kindle Fire HDX and Audible works fine but when trying to download the app to my phone, the app won't recognize my Audible password. It keeps saying "Password Error". I contacted Cust. Service, and they insisted I was typing my password incorrectly (which I'm not). I have a Samsung Galaxy S3. Does anyone have any suggestions for me as to why this may be happening? I have to decide soon whether to renew my Audible account and, if I can't also use my cell device to listen, I'm not sure it's worth the monthly charge. Customer Service was definitely not helpful at all. Please note: I am definitely not a "techie" so please be gentle with me!
Thanks! Kandi

Kristie wrote: The app works great on my Galaxy SII. Never had a problem with it recognizing my Audible password. Have you tried uninstalling and reinstalling the app? I really don't know what more I can do and so I am feeling very disappointed with my Audible experience. I guess I'll have to cancel my subscription since I cannot, now, use it one each device. My Kindle app has been amazing, tho - it works perfectly on my Galaxy SIII. Amazon/Kindle customer service has always been great so I don't understand why Audible can't get it together.
I'd try logging out of the app on the Kindle Fire and logging back in, just to make absolutely sure you are using the correct password. I was convinced recently that I was entering a password correctly, and it took me at least a dozen tries before I realized that what I was certain was the letter O was in fact a zero.
That's kind of why I feel it's worth it to carry a tiny Sansa Clip instead of listening to books on my phone (not to mention battery drain).
I have been listening to books on cds for years and am now buying books thru Audible to my Kindle Fire Hd. Does anyone know how I can listen to my audio books through my stereo in my car. This should be easy but I'm not sure how to do it. I have a 2013 Honda CRV that has sinc, Bluetooth etc.My kindle is too quiet for me to hear on it's own.

If so, you should either be able to listen via bluetooth or through a USB cable (if your vehicle has a USB port). For bluetooth you have to follow your vehicle's instructions for how to get the bluetooth paired with your Fire's bluetooth.
I listen via bluetooth all the time in my car, and it's great. Before my smartphone I used the USB cable connected to my iPod nano, and that worked well too.
Good luck!
I do have blue tooth and the auto dealer set my phone up so I guess I need to look in my manual and try to connect that way. I will try that this weekend. Thanks

If your phone is already connected to your car stereo via bluetooth, I'd suggest using the Audible app. It'll Whispersync to the audiobook on your Kindle so you don't need to worry about finding your place.
I always listen to my audiobooks through my phone and my Bluetooth earphone. It's perfect for when I go walking too. (I prefer one ear so I can hear what's going on around me.)

I agree with Sandi. Good thinking. I too have bluetooth headphones I use while walking and doing housework. So much better than getting headphone cords caught in my dishwasher rack. :)
I do not miss the cord from my iPod headphones getting caught on the dishwasher rack or cabinet knobs. Honestly, I can't even imagine listening on a tablet or ereader. I have a clip for my phone and I just clip it to my waistband and walk around with it. Size-wise, my iPod Nano was ideal for audiobooks. But, the phone eliminates having an extra device. My Nook HD is capable of playing audiobooks, but I don't want it to. It's just not portable enough.

Oddly, the person I spoke with on Thursday said he couldn't do anything like that: "We can't just put a book into someone's account". Duh, indeed! The Thursday person got a "NO" on the question: 'Did we exceed your expectations?'
