Michael (mobe1969) | 463 comments BTW, it appears the download issues I had today were on Audibles server side, not the app. I got an email back from them:

Laura P | 94 comments Has anyone else noticed issues with the daily deal on the new homepage? The daily deal used to change at midnight, but I noticed it has been changing hours earlier, but doesn't reflect the 'deal' price until midnight. So I have missed out on the last couple daily deals because I dont get to login until the evening and it is already showing the next days deal, but its full price until after midnight.

message 703: by Janice (new)

Janice (jamasc) | 1193 comments The daily deals no longer show on the home page view that I get. The only way I know about them is the daily email. Apparently, the new home page is supposed to feature the daily deal at the top, so maybe the new design is still in the works.

I just wish audible would quit changing their home page.

You can, but it is a bit of a pain trying to hit small links.

I just found out I can add a format column to the goodreads stuff. So I am slowly going through and editing the format.

Bill (Just a) | 911 comments Michael wrote:"Yes, you are lucky with apple devices - they can natively play Audible titles so you never need to use the Audible app. Unfortunately with Android, you do not have a choice in the matter.

I've been having so many issues with the Android app, particulary lately, I don't know what is wrong. It isn't like there has even been an app update. And I have uninstalled, deleted etc. I really regret moving to Android. I do like having a larger sized phone though...

I feel your pain. I rarely use the phone. Mostly I use one of my IPODs. I have toyed with using the little Sansa players but they can't play audible because of the DRM. I have software that will give me a pure MP3 but it is just a nuisance to do that. Basically it re-records the book.

I guess your telling me that on a central PC the reason the library function works well is because of iTunes. And perhaps it won't work as easily with Media Monkey. Hope that isn't the case. I guess I will know if I make the switch.

I'm with you. Portability is huge but I don't need my whole library with me all the time. I just need a few books to be portable.

The other thing is not every book is from audible. So I don't want audible to be my backup. With a laptop or desktop, one can easily backup their library.

The Sansa Clip series plays Audible books just fine, as well as library DRM books!

message 709: by Sue (new)

Sue | 59 comments It seems like with the new site you no longer know what the kindle price of the book will be if you want to do Whispersync. It only tells you the price of the audiobook, if you buy the kindle first. It would be nice if they could change it back so you do not have to visit two sites to determine total cost.

That's something I mentioned when I submitted feedback about the changes. That was an important feature for me, too. Hopefully they will add it back.

message 712: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 4024 comments I hadn't noticed yet that the Kindle price wasn't on the page. I can't imagine why they dropped it since the combined price was the only reason I ever made a Whispersync purchase. Although, that might be the reason--they didn't really want to encourage those of us who were buying the very cheapest deals.

message 713: by Michael (new)

Michael (mobe1969) | 463 comments Can someone here from the US check if this book is Whispersync or not. It is the third book in a series, and the other books in it are whispersync, and part 2 was release the same day as part 2, but part 3 doesn't show for me as Whispersync. I'm wondering if this is just an Australian issue, or if it isn't whispersync. Which is wierd. Breakers book 3: Knifepoint

Thanks for checking. How odd. A new release, same release date as part two, and all the other three books in the series are Whispersync, but not the last.

message 716: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3948 comments Sometimes, they hope if you're suckered in by that far in a series, you'll pay the regular price.

Michael (mobe1969) | 463 comments I've noticed it on a lot. Like the Mark Tufo Life of Riley series. They are tiny. 3 are whispersync, but the last one isnt

message 719: by Michael (new)

Michael (mobe1969) | 463 comments The revamped site- what are they thinking?

The whispersync links are now gone. So you have notification of the kindle book but no link to it. So you have to now open a new browser window and try to find the book.

Why haven't they actually expended effort on adding to the site rather than removing from it and adding silly cosmetic rubbish? Like say author watchlist, author pages

Have to say I agree with this. Even the cosmetic changes are tweaks, not a total overhaul or new look. So it is not clear to me what the goal or intent of this change was supposed to be, and I too wish they'd have used the effort to actually improve site functionality and features.

message 721: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiemb) | 231 comments Mine keeps going back and forth between the new book pages and the old. Right now it's back to the old version which I wish it would stay on. They are much easier to read, and I like having all of the whispersync information on the page, too.

message 722: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 4024 comments I agree that I wish I knew the point of the changes and that, if there isn't some good reason, it would revert to the old site and stay that way. In the past, while I didn't enjoy the ease of use changes meant, I would quickly get used to new formats and continue blithely on. But this latest change means I'll have to find a way to function despite the changes and have to work harder to get the information I need. I suspect, in the end, it will mean I use the site less, not more.
I have to wonder if they make changes so as not to let people get bored with the same old thing, or if there's a point to it. Change for change's sake doesn't seem that effective a marketing strategy to me.

Yes, me too. When I get the old site I'm going "YES!!!", and when I get the old one "NOOOOO!!!!!!"

The whispersync link loss is just terrible.

message 724: by Tjo (new)

Tjo | 56 comments I completely agree about the whispersync link loss. Since this change, I have purchased several kindle whispersync books that do not match the audible whispersync book I wish to purchase. In one case, there was only one kindle whispersync book available, but it still somehow did not match the audible whispersync version.

How are we customers supposed to find correct matches in such cases without links?

So after complaining about this on Saturday, it has been fixed! If you have been having this problem, be sure to check it out again to see if it now works for you. Thanks, Audible!

message 728: by Mash (last edited Feb 23, 2014 07:58AM) (new)

Mash | 3 comments Not sure if this is the right place to ask this question but a number of previously available audiobooks, that I was rather looking forward to listening to, have disappeared altogether from Audible. This rather unfortunately includes every book in my "Wish List" which are now accompanied by the following error message: "This item is not currently available for purchase on Audible.co.uk. We apologize for the inconvenience."

Can I expect these books to become available again in the near future or should I be looking elsewhere for an alternative audiobook provider, that still stock these titles?

I am a little disappointed that this happened so quickly and without apparent warning as I would have liked to have stocked up on them before they disappeared.

Cheers

message 729: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3948 comments I have had every single book do that before, but it was a technical glitch in the display that cleared itself later.

message 730: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 4024 comments If it's every book, I'd bet on it being a technical glitch. But do be aware that some titles do disappear without warning from Audible and that just plain sucks. I've requested in the past that Audible give notice about these titles and have a "Clearance Sale", but they don't seem to think that's a plausible plan right now. Good luck in having your desired titles return to Audible for you.

message 731: by [deleted user] (new)

Question from the peanut gallery - are regional publishing rights subject to re-negotiation? In other words, is it possible that Audible UK has lost the rights to some of the books Mash wants?

Sorry, I'm completely ignorant as to how the process works.

message 732: by John, Moderator (new)

John | 3948 comments Yes, that's possible here and there, but unlikely it would happen to every single book at once.

message 733: by [deleted user] (new)

Indeed. Hence "some" :)

message 734: by Mash (new)

Mash | 3 comments Thanks guys, I do hope it's just a glitch but, as they are also now missing from the search engine, I fear the worst.

Interesting suggesting regarding regional publishing rights, a little research revealed that they are in fact still available on the U.S version of Audible suggesting a regional issue, however they are also available from rival audiobook purveyors in the UK, so I'm not sure.

I must confess that my Wish List wasn't hugely extensive and was mainly comprised of a small pool of authors, so I can easily believe that Audible could lose the rights to all in one fell swoop. I also note that many other books by these writers are no longer available, including many I have already bought(?).

Time for a change in taste I suppose.

John | 3948 comments You could always contact Audible U K and ask them?

message 736: by Mash (new)

Mash | 3 comments Yes indeed, I did try previously but with no response, hence trying here. However I now believe I was using the wrong email address and have just now been provided with an alternative [content_uk@audible.co.uk] by the kind people on the Audible Chat function so will try that. Cheers

I don't think so b/c the release date listed under the price column. I wish we can do this as well.

CatBookMom | 1082 comments For the first time in a long, long while I have had less than completely satisfactory results from Customer Service, an issue that wasn't fixed immediately, with one call/contact. Late Tuesday night I grabbed Dick Francis' Blood Sport Blood Sport by Dick Francis , the Daily Deal and another Whispersync deal, a book from my Wish List. Got the confirming email. Then yesterday Blood Sport wasn't in my Library though the other book was, so I did an online Chat to find out what happened. The CS person looked into it, said all the soothing things, found the purchase OK, and then came back to say that the issue would have to be escalated. I thought that was fairly odd, since all that needed doing was to put the book into my account. Still no update as of today. Did anyone else get this book? Have any problem with it getting into their Library?

OK, thanks. I'll call and see if I can't kick this into higher gear.

ETA: Called Audible. Yes, the issue has been escalated to the Technical Team. It may take another 48 hours to resolve. They can't just put a book into a member's library. ???

message 744: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 4024 comments People have mentioned before that they no longer get notices on their home page to renew early and get the extra credit--usually Platinum members note this and get the notice when credits drop below 3. Up until the web site revamp I found the renew early notice and offer of a bonus credit on my Library page if nowhere else. I've been below 3 credits for over 2 weeks and have been down to 1 credit for several days, but no notice to renew early. When I go to the page with my Account information and check out the link to renew, there is no mention of the bonus credit. So, can I still get a bonus credit for renewing early? If so, why doesn't Audible still have the "Renew Early" link on any of its pages?

Back when my membership was getting low in November, I saw the renew early offer on Audible's mobile website, but not on the regular one, so I signed up for it on my smartphone. I think others have said the same thing. This was before the latest website update, though, so not sure if anything's changed on that front.

As I feared, I used the link to renew and received only the 24 credits, not the usual bonus 25th for renewing early when there are fewer than 3 credits. Oh well.

She deleted the earlier purchase, put a credit into my account, and I bought the book with the free credit. Quick, smart, simple.
