Ouch. That would drive me nuts, trying to figure what I'd read... Fortunately on Android it is OK.

I really wish they allowed your cloud library list to filter out read books. I have to scroll so far now....

Hey Tjo,

At this time, mark-as-finished is not saved to the Cloud, so signing out will remove them. This is not good and we know; in fact, we are working on ways to save this information to the Cloud.

Have you contacted us about merging your accounts? We have the ability to merge old Audible accounts with new Amazon accounts (unless the old Audible account is already merged with an different Amazon account).

Feel free to email "social-support@audible.com" and we'll let you know if your two accounts are eligible to be merged.

Jeanie | 4024 comments Dear Audible,

I went to Audible tonight to check out the Daily Deal and discovered the home page has drastically changed.
FYI, for people who have to use a screen reader, this new configuration absolutely sucks!!!

I could enumerate all the ways it no longer works for me, but it would take so much time I won't bother right now. The screen appears to be set up for mobile users and, while there is the other more accessible screen, it has none of the information of the home page, only the more extensive list of links. Sigh... I'm hoping this is temporary, but I'm not holding my breath.

Vicki | 68 comments I just checked out the home page and it looks the same to me. I have my library bookmarked for my browser so after log in it takes me directly there. Is it possible that you are going to a bookmark and not the home page?

message 606: by Vicki (new)

Vicki | 68 comments This is a new one for me. On the 7th of Jan I had 2 credits left and wanted to download 4 so I went in to renew my membership. When the credits changed to 26 I used 4 credits to purchase the books I wanted. Then sent them to my Kindle from my library. From latest purchase area all 4 books were there. I wanted to send all of my books from the author to the Kindle so I could listen to all of the series at one time. When I searched my library by the authors name only one of the new books was there. To make matters worse one of the ones I purchase is one I already own.

To top off everything when I called audible about this I was informed that they show that I do not have a membership. They can see the purchase and the credits. They can see my books in my library etc. I just do not have a membership now.

I was advised that they are looking into it but I might not be able to use credits till the problem is resolved. I can still access my library though. What a PITA.

While I was on hold with them I figured out the new purchase missing issue and pointed out that there one list come up as Steven F Havill an the other is Steven F. Havill. Since this is a common error with audible you would think that CS people would be aware of this possibility.

Still no answer as to why my previous book does not show up though. They did issue me a credit for it though.

message 607: by Angie (new)

Angie (angiemb) | 231 comments I don't notice any difference on my home page, but I did notice they changed how the pages for the books look. And I wish they would put back both of the whispersync prices on the book page (the kindle and audio prices). That was really helpful without having to look up the book on both sites.

message 608: by Jeanie (new)

Jeanie | 4024 comments As for my home page... It's the same I've always gone to and done in the same way. I first noticed a slight difference a few days ago when the list of Best Sellers, for example, now included the author and narrator--previously there was only a list box with titles you could click on. But when reading the information line by line using the up and down arrows, there were six blank lines between the title and author. This may not seem like much visually, but it's a lot of pressing of a down arrow key when you're reading a whole page line by line.
What's also diferent now is many of the links are untitled so I get the long address rather than a description--sounds like code or gibberish--and there seems to be more flash that my screen reader can't handle--I read a line and when I go back to it the line has changed to something else. Plus everything is in a different order now.

Some of this may be due to the underlying code that indicates regions and headings and in what order the screen reader "sees" them, but the presentation for me is drastically different and it was still like that when I checked again today.

I recently went looking to download the Simon Vance version of *The Tale of Two Cities* and read the product page for reviews. Page was not there, not available. I discovered that that version has been withdrawn, and while I could still download it, I couldn't get any info on it. Then yesterday I found a "new" version, read by Simon Vance had become available (99¢ whispersync price).

I sympathize with the struggle you're having. These glitches can be SO annoying, and they make me doubt the security of leaving all my audiobooks only available through the Audible library. Or how I'm 'safe' from buying a book the 2nd time.

Justacat | 26 comments I just spoke with them on the phone. They said they are experiencing a glitch that causes this to happen, and once they submit your report, it should be resolved in 24-48 hours. They still show all my 25 credits as still there. So we'll see what happens. (You do have to report it though.) I was on hold for 15 minutes, so I'm guessing this problem is widespread. What a pain.

EDIT: should have said same thing happened to me, 25 credits gone and showing me as not a member!

I absolutely agree. It's so hard to go back every time I want to look at what I have not read or rated. It should not be that hard to apply another link to manage our library to show all not rated first.

I didn't have a credits/membership problem, but obviously it's this upgrade that has screwed up the previous ease with which I could read the web site. Sigh.

Deano | 104 comments Lots of of people have two or more accounts
I had one the I opened one for the mrs
Who didn't read as much as I thought she would so I ended up with some of her credits.
And at the time the gift service wasn't available so I couldn't put them in my own account.
And as both accounts have lots of books in each, they can't be merged.

message 627: by Michael (new)

Michael (mobe1969) | 463 comments Just another suggestion (other than fix your dang banner adds so promotions show for everyone) is the ratings and mini user reviews shown on popups books in a search. It might be picking currently most helpful, but in a lot of cases, these really aren't good representative views. If they are a review below average, I ignore them. Eg if the book has 50 reviews with an average of 4 stars, if the "most useful" review is two stars, can not be a good representation. I'll ignore them. For example, search for "Flu". The top one returned is Jaqueline Druga's Flu. Hover on the title, and it gives you the first line of a two star review saying "It was OK. Not my favorite".

Are you all paying that? Is there a free way to use audible?

Amazon Local has a deal right now for your first 2 months of audible free. Then you could cancel before the 2 months is up if you still want to. You can purchase whispersync books even after you cancel your membership. All you need are the Amazon and Audible accounts. Here's a link to the offer.

message 630: by Angela Bee Bee (new)

Angela Bee Bee (gardangels) I did the one month free trial.
I'm confused why they say 1 book per month. If you are paying thr $15, is it still limited to one per month?

"You can purchase whispersync books even after you cancel your membership. All you need are the Amazon and Audible accounts"

It says I have to cancel my account at the end of the trial, but I would still have an account I could purchase and use whispersink, even if I cancel?

Why have the $15 fee?

The $15 buys you one credit. Audible isn't giving away books. If you get a book that is more than $15 with your credit, then you've saved money. You can of course buy more than one book per month but you have to pay for them. Members get a lower price. It seems simple enough to me.

message 632: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 420 comments The $14.95 membership gets you one credit per month. That's not a free book each month, you've paid for that credit. When you use your credit, be careful not to use it on a book that has a member price that's less than what you paid for the credit. You can buy as many books as you want at the member price.

message 633: by Angela Bee Bee (new)

Angela Bee Bee (gardangels) Ok, so I get 1 "free" book up to $15 per month, then I buy the rest at full price. Without a membership, I pay full price.

message 634: by Kristie (new)

Kristie | 2212 comments Angela wrote: "Ok, so I get 1 "free" book up to $15 per month, then I buy the rest at full price. Without a membership, I pay full price."

Members get a member price which is about 30% off the full price. So if you're a member, you never pay full price.

message 635: by [deleted user] (new)

Since I'm not price-conscious (to my family's great despair!) my membership entitles me to 2 credits per month, at a higher price. It works out great, because I know which date of the month I will receive the credits, and can therefore plan my purchases.

message 636: by [deleted user] (new)

The other advantage is the selection. I got a hardcover book for Christmas which doesn't really fit into any particular genre. I searched for it on Audible, and to my great surprise, there was an audio version.

message 637: by Angela Bee Bee (new)

Angela Bee Bee (gardangels) I try to avoid monthly fees whenever I can. I'm working with the site now to figure out how to buy books without the monthly fee.
I'm also trying to figure out if I can use Whispersync without buying the books from audible, say, borrowing, but that's not looking possible.

message 638: by Sandi (new)

Sandi (sandikal) | 420 comments If you want to borrow audiobooks, see if your public library offers audiobook downloads through Overdrive. It's free.

Verena (pidgeon92) | 60 comments Angela wrote: "I try to avoid monthly fees whenever I can. I'm working with the site now to figure out how to buy books without the monthly fee."

You can buy any book you want without the "monthly fee." You just have to pay full price for it, and you won't get access to most of the sales, which are generally member's only.

I have the platinum membership for $23 per month. This gets me two credits per month. I generally pile mine up for sales, like "3 books for 2 credits" and "get a $10 coupon for using 4 credits." These cut down the prices a lot.

You do understand that the monthly 'fee' buys you one credit per month which you can use to 'buy' any book on the site? Whether it's $10 or $40? If you agree to one credit per month it costs you $15.95 per book, or whatever the current cost is. I avoid the 'monthly' business by buying an 'annual' membership for 229.50, for 24 credits, which works out to 9.something per book. The best deal by far. Then I have 24 credits at once to use at whatever pace you like.

I don't think you can 'buy' books at Audible without joining which means agreeing to 'buy' at least one credit per month.

message 641: by Angela Bee Bee (new)

Angela Bee Bee (gardangels) I understand now. It's sort of expensive. You also have to buy the ebook if you want to whispersync. Im not sure if I would buy one book per month.

If you regularly listen, then I can see how its a good deal.

I have an amazon prime account because I know I will use it over the year. I'm not sure on audio yet. I need to try it out.

message 642: by Angela Bee Bee (new)

Angela Bee Bee (gardangels) OK, After a very long morning trying to figure this out, I've determined that they do not have any of the books on my 'to read' list as audible, much less Whispersync.

Sooooo.... I got myself a free audible/Whispersync version of Wuthering Heights, I'm going to try it out to see how I like it.
Then I will cancel my trial membership.
And I will just keep my eyes out if there is a book I want to read that has an audible book (with or without Whispersync), I will go ahead and buy it from audible (assuming they let me).

It appears the chances of one of my books meeting audible criteria are slim.
And I do not wish to change my reading list just for the purpose of going audible.
But at least I'm all set up now and will be ready when it happens.

You don't have to spend the credit every month you just get a credit a month you can build them up.

They have one of the Teresa Mummert books on your list for $13.19 (member price), and they are starting to come out with the Robin York series that you are reading.

How old are your kids?

My son is 6 - he LOVES the children's books with synchronized illustrations (there's a special section for these books). He's not such a fan of the books that are purely audio just yet - but I suspect he will be in the future.

Most of us in this group are fanatical fans of Audible - they have amazing customer service. They have a policy that if you get a book you don't like, you can return it with no questions asked. Being a member has its perks - and they are well worth it. I started off with a 1/month credit membership and have since moved up to 2/month. My credits will theoretically roll over if I don't use them but I've never had more than 6 credits banked at any one time - I can always find something worthwhile to spend them on.

The whispersync deals are quite prevalent if you are willing to take the time to do your research. On the Audible book page, you can find out what a kindle book costs you on Amazon and then what the companion audiobook will cost you. I have, however, found that the kindle books on Amazon are often less expensive than as listed on Audible - but again, you have to be willing to do your research - which can be tedious. You can sign up to get an email from Amazon which will tell you all the kindle daily deals for the day (about 3 books each day).

Anyway, it's your choice but I HIGHLY recommend the membership program at Audible.

Thanks so much for checking for me and please excuse my inexperience/mistakes.
