Elizabeth (Alaska) My largest collection of books is my TBR shelf. I don't re-read books - at least not on purpose. Unless bought at a library sale, they are all paperbacks. I have friends to whom I pass on books, who pass them on etc. I also exchange with my daughter who lives 1700+ miles from here. A FlatRate box from the post office holds 10 paperbacks. So my other stack is my already-read-waiting-to-send-to-Katy stack.

Gina (g1n3) | 103 comments Since I'm still in high school, I live with my family, so I really don't have the opportunity to spread my books throughout the house. Therefore, my books stay cluttered in my room. I have stacks in front and to the left of my bed and three bookshelves. One is in my closet. Originally, that book shelf was for clothing, but I had to get rid of some of my clothes on the shelves to make room for my books! It just tell you where my priorities are. HAHA

Liz I understand what you mean, Gina, since I'm in college but all of my books still live at home. My family just borrows them. Last time we moved they took up five boxes, and I don't think it wil be any less next time...
At any rate, you should consider getting stackable under the bed Rubbermaid containers. You could definitely stick either clothes or books in them.

Gina (g1n3) | 103 comments That's a really great idea, Liz! Thank you. I'll keep that in mind.

Liz You're welcome :)

Lori Walker Gina, That totally describes my room! Unfortunately I can't put any books in under bed containers because the floor under my bed is already covered with such containers. I don't know what I'm going to do this summer when I move home because my shelves at home are already full and there's not room for any more. This is problematic.

Liz Maybe you could just build a really big fort around your bed out of books and a moat while you're at it, it could get you more privacy.

Lori Walker I like that idea Liz! And I can post a no boys allowed sign.

ஐ Katya (Book Queen)ஐ (katyabookqueen) I've got shelves on some bookcases 2 high and 3 deep with paperbacks until some shelves are totally packed to the point they definetly can't hold anymore. I also store some stacked on the top of the bookshelf (for hardbacks).

Melissa (melitious) I have two books in my purse, for the train and work -- in case I get bored with one. I also have two on my nightstand. The nightstand books tend to travel with me around the house, though.

Avory Faucette (avoryfaucette) My book situation is... interesting. I've recently developed a panic that I may have thrown away some of my really good high school and college books when I didn't think they were that good, and am really hoping that they are still at mom's house in a box somewhere. Basically, I have childhood books and some classics and books I read a while ago in my bookshelves in my own bedroom, then in my own apartment in Iowa I have the rest of my books. There is a tall shelf in the living room with my foreign language reference materials, my DVDs, most of my poetry, and some miscellany on the bottom. On my coffee table are all the library books. Then in my bedroom I have a shelf with all my cookbooks, foreign language literature, very small books and manuals, and a few miscellaneous. Finally, along one wall I have lined up the rest of the random stuff - reference books, fiction, etc. There's also a couple of stacks of to read books, and my very first box is packed with books I've read for my move in July, sitting under my bed :-)

Lisa | 26 comments Let's see, I have one book that is for the car and work and always goes into my work bag. One book that I take with me everywhere else (just in case I have nothing to do for 3 minutes or so) and a book or too on my nightstand to read for bed. I then have a a five shelf book shelf (two of the shelves are two rows deep) and a book shelf as my head board ( was super excited when I got that in high school).

There are also a bunch of childhood ones and school ones that I thought were only okay in my attic and I have given quite a few boxfuls to goodwill (usually full of books that I bought at library sales).

My dream in life is to have a library in my house. Preferable like the library in Beauty and the Beast ... haha.

Lisa I am feeling so much better now about the number of books we have! We both have piles in and around our nightstands plus a bookshelf in our bedroom. The kids all have books in their rooms plus another tall bookshelf in the upstairs hall. Old books and reference books belong on the family room shelves. A cupboard shelf for cookbooks. Two bookshelves in the basement for the ones we just can't get rid of.

And I think we do a pretty good job about getting rid of books once we've read them!

Abigail (42stitches) | 360 comments I have three book shelves pretty much full (but not jam packed yet). A three foot for religion and philosophy, a five foot for text books and poetry and another three foot for novels. My Stephen King books are still in boxes from the last move, though. Don't have a home for them yet. I also keep a shelf of our old entertainment stand-turned coffee table reserved for whatever I am currently reading. I keep a couple on my nightstand and I always have at least one in my bag. Oh, and library books go in a stack on my desk.

Ken (scete) | 31 comments Where do I keep my books, everywhere!!. In my study I have Religious, Spirituality, Philosophy, History etc.. plus a few novels. In the living Room we have two bookcases, Gardening, Travel Biographies. One bookcase in the conservatory, novels. One on the landing more novels. A bookcase in one bedroom with a mix of Spirituality, & general novels. Second bedroom has two bookcases with historical themes from a large section on the American Civil War, Napoleon etc. Finally another bookcase containing Sci Fi and Fantasy, Gemmell, Jordan etc.. Then there are the current reads which follow us around.

Lori Walker Ken, Can I move into your house?

message 67: by Ken (new)

Ken (scete) | 31 comments OK, as long as you bring your books!!

message 68: by Lori (new)

Lori Walker Will you provide the bookcases, or do I need to bring those with me? Because I need 5.

Carol (caroldias) My house has a wall with shelves, with everybody books in it, the "family books".

I have two shelves for myself but I´m running out of space already...

But mostly you can see books all over the house, cause I´m always leaving the one I´m reading in the table (my mom too), and inside my car, in my purse, in the bathroom...
