Author Dean Turnbloom will be joining us in discussion about Sherlock Holmes and the Whitechapel Vampire. The book sounds really interesting! I am obsessed with Sherlock Holmes, and very into reading about vampires and Jack the Ripper, and this book has all of that.

Hello! I just received my copy of the book yesterday, and it is looking like a fantastic Halloween read. I am looking forward to it.
I conceived the cover myself...my publisher thought it was perfect and had it done up for me...I adore the fonts
Dean wrote: "I conceived the cover myself...my publisher thought it was perfect and had it done up for me...I adore the fonts"Hi Dean! The cover is pretty awesome. Do authors usually have control or say on what is on their covers? I assumed it was kinda rare but I have no idea why I would assume that...
I have read the first 8 chapters of your book. I like that there is much more characterization behind "the bad guy" than I usually expect in horror or mystery novels. I'm reading Dracula at the same time as I am reading this (I wanted really badly to read Dracula before Halloween but didn't make it alas), and I see similarities between them, mostly because they are both aristocratic Europeans who had come to London. How much of "Count Dracula" should I be reading into Baron Barlucci?
I read Dracula in high school some time ago and purposely did not re-read it prior to writing this novel. I wanted the baron to have a flavor of the count without being a carbon copy.Regarding the cover, my publisher is fairly small and specializes in Sherlock Holmes novels, which is why, I believe, I was able to have an influence on what the front cover looks like, although I believe its unusual even for them to have a novelist suggest the cover.
And may I say, if you are only through the first eight chapters, the best is yet to come...
:o)

Dean, i won your book through the Goodreads giveaway and i really enjoyed it. i have reviewed it for you too. The flavor of the book is more like Rathbone and Bruce than the Sacred Writings. Is that what you were trying to achieve? i love the scenes where Watson bumbles. Those scenes made me laugh out loud!
I like how the ending can be read as either pretty final, or more ambiguously if you wanted. Spoilers ahead! (view spoiler) I thought that was clever.
In answer to Naching, I have to admit being amply contaminated by the Rathbone/Bruce characterizations...I own all their Holmes movies as well as some radio recordings. Thanks for your good words too. That makes me smile!
Joanna, you'll need to read the sequel to find out for sure...you may be surprised by the way things unfold...I'm currently editing the sequel...
Hey! Joe Riggs here, half way through this book and absolutely loving it. The perfect mixture of elements so far, can't wait to see how this unfolds...
