Mark Catalfano (cattfish) Ie how many video game based movies can you put out within a short time? AND Ralph had the rights to all these real life video game characters which means RPO can't use them anymore.

So... Did Disney get the drop on WB?

Neil | 165 comments I think there is going to be room for both. RPO didn't just have video game characters in it as it referenced movies, TV shows and D+D stuff as well so even if it can't get the rights to all the things the book referenced if they can get some or replace them with something similar it will be fine.

And there is a difference between giving a company a licence to use a character in a film as a one off and giving them exclusive rights to making films with that character. Really don't know that much about Wreck it Ralph but just because Disney have been given permission to use a character in this film doesn't necessarily mean they have exclusivity over that character.

Alan Carr (alanfalcon) I don't want a RPO that's any less awesome than Scott Pilgrim. The book is so entertaining and so good as it is, I'd be very sore if it turns into a poor film adaptation. That said I don't think Wreck-It-Ralph will do anything but help bolster RPO's budget: I'll be shocked if W-I-R doesn't crush the box office (assuming the movie is at least half as good as the trailer promises). Then again, Scott Pilgrim bombed at the BO.

Paul Harmon (thesaint08d) | 639 comments I don't think Wreck it Ralph will impact an RPO movie in anyway. They are really not in the same vein except in the barest sense.
I'm more worried about the RPO movie being dumbed down for the non-reader audience to understand like most hollywood movies based on books.

Bob Chadwick | 37 comments Ready Player One is going to be so hard to begin with. There are a lot of easy ones. I am sure almost all the anime references will be easy to buy. The movie ones can just be converted to Warner Brothers movies, if War games isn't already. Wizards of the Coast should jump at the chance for their stuff to make it mainstream. The TV shows were just mentioned if memory serves me, all mentioning them shouldn't cost anything. Finding a video game equivalent to the ones in the book, if Disney bought them all, will be the problem.

Rynn (rynn1010) | 28 comments I really think RPO has a place on the big screen. Disney movies go STRAIGHT to the heart of the viewer and nudge all our emotions, no matter what the content is bopping around. Just so happens to be video games this time. I think RPO has a different story to tell, and a deeper nod to the nerd in all of us, where as Wreck It Ralph will definitely appeal the mass. Not bashing Disney, I love everything they do, and I don't think they bought permanent rights to all this content.
