Cindy Amrhein (historysleuth) | 20 comments Wow. So glad I found an "I'm new" thread! I've been around a few months but have such trouble finding things. :(

Anyway, M/C/T has always been my favorite to read since I was a kid and picked up my first Sherlock Holmes book. (Loving the new PBS series by the way.)

I'm a historian so I write a lot of non-fiction local history, but I don't often read non-fiction books, unless they're really old. Kind of odd don't you think? Well unless it's a historical true crime, I read that kind of non-fiction.:) Historical local murders are my favorite thing to research and write about for work too.

But I'm here mainly as a reader. I find the variety of reviews at Goodreads helpful to help decide if I'll like a book or not. And the links to buy the books is handy.

So glad to meet all you crime lovers!

Mike I'm new here myself, but welcome to the group. I generally like my true crime stories to have some kind of historical context as well. Either that or an element of ongoing mystery like the California Zodiac murders, or the Black Dahlia.

Have you watched the new CBS series Elementary yet? I think it's an interesting idea making Watson a woman but I haven't got around to watching the show yet.

Cindy Amrhein (historysleuth) | 20 comments I haven't watched it yet either. The female Watson kind of puts me off. I really should be fair and give it a try though. I almost think it was a jump-on-the-band-wagon idea for the network since the modern day PBS version of Sherlock is so awesome.

Welcome Mike and Cindy. Glad you found us. Lots of fans of true crime / historical crime here.

We have a thread about Elementary down in the Television/Movies folder. Check it out.

Hi Cindy and Mike. Thanks for joining the group.

Non-fiction local history sounds like my kinda thing, Cindy. Local meaning...? (I'll now go peek at your profile.)

Cindy Amrhein (historysleuth) | 20 comments Western New York State area. I snooped around last night and for the heck of it searched for the 1850s true crime book I co-wrote and self-published in 2000. It's on here! Pretty cool. I have no clue how to do any of that link author stuff though. :( I'm working now on doing the createspace thing to get it on Amazon.

Well, off to work to research history's mysteries! Have a true crime from the late 1800s I'm working on where the guy kills his wife's lover on Halloween. Cool huh?

Just want to say thanks to all of you for being so welcoming to the newbie. :)

Check out the Techno Corner folder too for instructions about linking, etc.

Bill Welcome to the group, Cindy. My wife finally broke down and watched the first couple of episodes of Elementary and was pleasantly surprised. I will have to check it out myself. I hope you enjoy the group and the discussions.
