Kelly (kelly_l) What do you guys do when you are reading a book that is hard to read? I'm reading Edgar Sawtelle right now and the first 150 pages or so were amazing, loved it and all that. Then for me, it stopped. I've pushed through to about 400 pages but I just can't seem to go further. I want to put it down but I've invested too much into it. But it's holding me up from reading other stuff. ARGH! What do you guys do when that happens?

Staci Speaking only for myself, if I was that far I would just put my head down and get it done. I loved Edgar so I didn't have that problem but I agree it is a very long book!!!

Best advice: stay true to yourself, if you're totally not into it then there isn't anything wrong with stopping. Maybe you'll pick it up again at a later time and have no problems finishing it. Life is too short to waste precious time on something you're not enjoying!!!

Audrey (audneal) I'm like you, Kelly. Once I'm invested that far, I find it really hard to put it down. I find it really difficult to stop a book once I've started -- not finishing it bugs me even if I'm not really liking it. I'm always afraid that I'll put it down and then wonder what I missed out on, you know?

Normally, I'll go so far as to create some kind of little reward system for myself, and I'll usually try to create a little schedule with mini-goals -- you know, read 45 pages a night or something like that...

good luck finishing it!

Kelly (kelly_l) LOL I'm worried my reward system will be to start reading another book. ::eyelash bat:: I just HATE when that happens!!! I keep looking at all these other books I have here just calling my name.

Kelly (kelly_l) YAY ME! I just finished Edgar this morning and I'm glad I stuck with it because I ended up enjoying the story. Now I'm not so sure if the book was slow or if I just wasn't in an "Edgar" sort of mood?

So NOW I just started The Thirteeth Tale. I sure hope I can sink my teeth into this book!
