Adriana Girolami (adrianagirolami) | 16 comments As an aspiring new author, I enjoy writing exciting story lines in the historical romance genre, but I have an eclectic taste in what I read, and enjoy just about anything as long as it inspires and stimulates my imagination.

Mary (marycastillo) Well I'll say this: it sure is easier to read an exciting book than it is to write one!

Best,
Mary

Anne (spartandax) Although I enjoyed writing my book, it took a lot out of me-I was 69 when it was published and this is two years later and I have written one unpublished novelette and part of another and have ideas for a third. I also am editing my book which had some errors to put on Kindle. To sit back and relax with a good book however, cannot be beaten.

True Mary! It is a lot easier to read... Although, I believe the desire to write is innate and allows some author to express their inner feelings through their characters.

Apparently Anne, you enjoy writing because it's part of your nature despite the fact that can be challenging... But I am with you, there is nothing better than relaxing with a good book!!!

Eliza Knight (elizaknight) | 2 comments Both!

While I do like to read an occasional slower paced book, or even dismal (like some of the historical fiction novels I read), I'll read an exciting one right after to bring up my mood!

Same for writing. I try to write dismal/heavy scenes between more exciting, fun scenes. Helps keep me going!

Eliza Knight (elizaknight) | 2 comments I do love knights....

I agree you have to be an avid reader. That's one of the things I always tell aspiring writers. Read and write.

I guess Eliza, you think that there is a balance between reading and writing. I agree! Since I don't believe there are true talented authors out there who are not avid readers. Books of all genres, even bad ones, can stimulate your imagination.
BTW we have the love of Knights in common. The title of my historical romance is "Revenge of the Knights Templar".

Adrianna, I have been writing since I was in grade school. Unfortunately I did not take up writing in college. perhaps I should have. My first ventures were in longhand-LOL. I later tried the typrwriter but it was always having problems, tape breaking, wearing out when you did not have a spare, etc. so I stopped when i began working. If I had had a computer back then, I'll bet my story would have been quite different. It took the movie "The Phantom of the Opera" to awaken my writing fever again as I felt so bad when Christine left him, and his disability seemed to be the problem that I just had to create someone who could love him in spite of it.

Jeffrey (chiklitmanfan) I prefer reading an exciting book. However, since I don't have any original writing ideas of my own, I also enjoy writing about what other people are writing about. People have told me that they enjoy reading my reviews as much as I enjoy writing them. (reaches around and pats self on back)

I am very glad Anne that your writing fever was awakened by the heartbreaking story of "The Phantom of the Opera" I guess it was dormant for far too long because of longhand writing, typewriter problems, etc. Regardless, I am glad you got back to it, because I believe few things are more beautiful than the written word!
