Bob Okay another update on my adventures in the Marvel Now Universe. I am dropping Captain America, A+X, and Iron Man. A+X because I'm not crazy about team up books and they are doing two team ups in each book so the stories are too short for my taste. The other two are good books but I can't afford everything especially when Marvel is releasing 2 issues a month instead of 1. What is up with that? I mean sure if I gave up food I could swing it but food and I have a long history and I don't think I could give it up. :)

CUTE!

Sarah (sarah_martinek) | 8 comments My husband just told me about a 90's Rogue centered comic. I am thinking about looking into that. It's not really a pull since it is older but it is a potential buy.

Oh? I'm very interested in this! Looking it up but did you find it?

message 105: by Belinda (new)

Belinda I just started my first pull list yesterday - yay! I actually set it up through Midtown Comics for delivery; does anyone else use them for their pull list? I'd go to my comic book stores in town but one is super limited selection, and the other is very unfriendly. :( OH well, hopefully it will help me budget my comics spending. I just started reading comics and spent waaay too much this month on it! But I do have a lot of ground to cover! lol ...Anyway here is my list:

Batman
Wonderwoman
All New X-Men
A+X
Deadpool
Hawkeye
Iron Man
New Avengers
Punisher/War Zone
Ultimates
X-Men

Whee! :)

message 106: by Lianne (new)

Lianne (eclecticreading) Here's my list (I don't have a pull list with the comic book store I frequent but I reckon this may change if the list becomes longer =P) of series I'm currently following:

- Captain America (Marvel Now)
- Journey into Mystery
- Thor: God of Thunder (Marvel Now)

I'm also eyeing the Marvel Now Secret Avengers that's coming out in February =D

message 107: by Belinda (new)

Belinda Omgosh, yes- Marvel Now Secret Avengers looks awesome! I totally swapped it with A+X on my list.

Has anyone heard good things about Guardians of the Galaxy that's supposed to come out in Feb too??

message 108: by Geekgirl (new)

Geekgirl | 8 comments I can never remember half the time what is on my pull list what I can remember is
Fables
Fairest
Hell boy
BPRD
Lenore
Dark horse presents
Atomic Robo
Chew
Fatale

message 109: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments What do you think of Fairest? I've bought all the issues but have only read the first one, which I found boring. I have higher hopes for the Rapunzel storyline.

message 110: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Belinda, All New X-men is the Bendis run, right? I want to check that out.

message 111: by Belinda (new)

Belinda Hi Anna, yep I think so. I've only read the first two issues so far, but it's one of my favorites on my pull list already.

How is A+X? I am also curious about Guardians of the Galaxy, the promos are all over the place too for it...

message 113: by Belinda (new)

Belinda I didn't care for it, since it is those short battles and I'm much more of a story-line person [Although I've recently learned about A-Babies vs X-Babies, and that looks kind of awesome. Lol]. But for this I actually don't think I finished reading the first issue. :(

Yeah, I can't find anything out about Guardians. but for what its worth, i think the promos look awesome. lol

message 114: by Geekgirl (new)

Geekgirl | 8 comments Fairest is OK, hasn't totally grabbed me as much as I thought so far

message 115: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Ohh, I have a new one. Just read the first two issues of Mara by Brian Wood and I loved it. The art is fantastic, beautiful colors, and I like the futuristic sports hero turned possible superhero storyline.

Mara #1 by Brian Wood
Mara #2 by Brian Wood

message 116: by Belinda (new)

Belinda Oh! I'm glad to hear a happy review. I've been eyeing that one for a bit. :D

message 117: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I hope you read it! I'm excited for the next issue.

message 118: by Batsap (new)

Batsap | 45 comments I've been away from serious comic-booking for a while and I'm thinking about getting back into it. Does anyone have any recommendations for my pull list?

I'm currently reading
Chew (collecting it in trades)
any random Batman comics I can pick up in the store (I'm a huge Batman fan)

I used to read:
Birds of Prey
Suicide Squad
Secret Six
Deadpool
a random selection of Spider-man comics

I love Ed Brubaker's stuff and I've just started dabbling in Thor. So, if that stuff is helpful to you I'd love suggestions. Something fantasy/magical would be interesting too. =]

Oh, and did anyone read Blue Estate when that was out? I thought that was amazing. Hopefully they'll bring out volume 2 soon.

Jason Aaron's run for Thor: God of Thunder #1 (Marvel NOW) has been pretty amazing so far! (I love the artwork for it)

Belinda wrote: "I didn't care for it, since it is those short battles and I'm much more of a story-line person [Although I've recently learned about A-Babies vs X-Babies, and that looks kind of awesome. Lol]. But ..."

A-Babies vs X-Babies sound so cute! lol

message 120: by S.G. (new)

S.G. (s-girl) | 9 comments Been really staying away from the Big 2, but after a few months of Wolverine and the X-Men, dropped it and picked up the relaunched "Uncanny X-Men" and the "All New X-Men" both written by Bendis.

I wasn't a fan of the White Queen when she left "Generation X" and hooked up with Cyclops but I liked her characterization in the new Uncanny. Uncanny is full of former X-Men who are unpredictable and whose motives can't be pegged down.

(And it makes me happy to see Emma finally taking identity of teacher back.)

That said, have not been willing-interested to stay with the Aaron written Wolverine and the X-Men. School books don't have to be silly and that book has become silly...

On a random note, I've been picking up the trades for Adventure Time and also pulling the "Fionna and Cake" single issues.

The rest of my pull list is alllll manga/manhwa.

message 121: by james (new)

james (taya_j) My friend wants to know what the difference is between all of the the Alice in the Country of Hearts comic book series and the other ones coming out.
Also, whether Hetalia was a TV show or a comic book first.

message 122: by Grace (new)

Grace (fives) | 33 comments I'm trying to keep up with the walking dead, but my comic book store doesn't have the issue I need!

message 123: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I had that problem too, Grace. My local shop was always running out of issues I wanted. I finally had to find a bigger shop that was able to keep more issues in stock.

message 124: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) Well, I just recently did a bit move to a new city (and province!) and on Wednesday I decided it was time to scout out the comic book stores. I actually grew up here so as familiar with one of them, but there were two more I had never been to before.

I will preface this by saying that I had the extreme pleasure of having the best comic book store ever where I used to live. Really personal, warm friendly greetings for everybody who came in, owners are probably the most knowledgeable people on the planet about comics, and to boot, great recommendations (they never let me down!).

So, I went to the first one that is all the rage in this city. Has been nominated for an Eisner, won some other awards, etc. But I was a little unimpressed. It had a great selection, but it felt really impersonal.

So I went over to the one my sister's boyfriend had suggested and it's great! Set up a box with them the same day. Plus they didn't have a minimum, as where the other place did (not that I had less than their minimum, it was more the principle of the thing!). The other place also added on extra to the cover price for Canadian exchange or some crap, which I've never seen before.

So, anyway, that was my long drawn out story to say that I added Satellite Sam to my fancy new pull list at my new comic book store. Anybody read it yet? I haven't cracked it. I also got Lazarus recommended to me which I'll also be reading within the next few hours.

message 125: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I like Lazarus! What do you think of it?

message 126: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) Anna (Bananas!) wrote: "I like Lazarus! What do you think of it?"

Totally loved it - I sent an email off to my comic book store to put it on my pull list. I really liked the four or so pages talking about his process of getting the idea and how he started writing it. He gives off a lot of clues I think with where it's going, so it should be good.

Satellite Sam was good too (although not as good). But, it was 100% set up so you can tell it's going places. I love the art in it, so I'll definitely keep getting it.

Chimney wrote: " I was thinking of moving to another store, but it would make me feel guilty because the people working at the one I am at are generally very nice."

What's the reason for thinking of the move?

message 127: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) Ya, that's definitely annoying! I mean, I can see forgetting on the really odd occasion (depending on how many subscriptions you have), but constantly just isn't good.

message 128: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I need to read the last bit of Lazarus, haven't gotten to it yet, but it sounds like it might inspire me even more.

Chimney, that sounds aggravating. Too bad they're nice peeps. I changed from a little local store to a popular one near my work because the smaller store kept not having things I wanted. Occasionally I'll slink back in to say hi.

message 129: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Is anyone still reading Gambit? I'm getting a bit bored with it. I was hoping it would be more unique and, well, fun.

I'm feeling disheartened with comics in general though. Mara started sucking. Scarlet had one new issue and disappeared again. Sigh. And there's not much new stuff catching my eye. I need something new and interesting and original.

The only monthly comics I'm into lately are Saga, Mind the Gap, and Revival. And high hopes for Lazarus of course.

message 130: by Kelly (last edited Jul 12, 2013 12:43PM) (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) Anna - maybe check out Sheltered by Ed Brisson - just came out this week and I put it on my pull list (although haven't made it into the comic book shop yet to grab it). But I am a HUGE fan of Ed Brisson - fabulous writer so this new series should be good (check out http://www.murderbookcomic.com/ those are all stories he's written for Murder Book which is awesome, but only comes out sporadically).

I keep a really close eye on what Image is releasing now more than any other publisher. Not only is it creator owned, but they just have a really high quality selection of comics they publish, so I usually give anything new coming out through them at least a first shot.

message 131: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Image is my favorite comics publisher. They're most of what I read. I hadn't noticed this one though. Thanks for the rec! I definitely check it out.

message 132: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Eep! You did?? I was just losing hope of seeing another issue. Yay! I might have to pick it up tomorrow.

message 133: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Ohhh, I have to see it. Did you buy it? I can't remember if you read the first trade.

message 134: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I love the cover!

message 135: by [deleted user] (new)

I've been kinda getting into Birds of Prey lately (New 52 version). While catching up on the series does anyone recommend that I get individual issues or buy the full volumes.

I'm also working on a pull list. So far this is what I'll be putting on it:

Scarlet (So excited to get caught up!!!!)
Birds of Prey
Fatale
Hawkeye (I don't know a lot about the series but I love the artwork I've seen for it).

And possibly Saga but I may just keep that one digital. I have quite a few digital comics right now but I just got a new (better paying) job so time to start getting hard copies!

message 136: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) I would highly recommend getting Saga in hard copy form. The art is definitely worth it!

message 137: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, that's true. When I got the first volume I kept reading it. I love how expressive the characters are. Best example (for me, anyway) is when Alana realizes the map they have is for the Rocketship Forest. I thought her expression was perfect. Also, Marko's face when Alana convinces him to follow the map (I can't remember which page but the caption was: He just couldn't say no to her).

message 138: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I'd definitely want hard copies for Saga and Scarlet. Staples' art in Saga is gorgeous. The humor is one of my favorite things about Saga and while Vaughan is responsible for that, Staples enhances it perfectly with the characters' expressions.

Manette, did you read issue 6 of Scarlet yet and what do you think?

message 139: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I'm adding Ten Grand and Lazarus to my pull list today. Both are great so far. Ten Grand reminds me a bit of Constantine.

Maybe Jupiter's Legacy too, still deciding if I like that one enough.

Checking out Sheltered, Birds of Prey, and the new Constantine today. Has anyone read Harvest? I may get the trade for that.

message 140: by [deleted user] (new)

I haven't read issue 6 yet. Hopefully soon I'll be ordering it. Scarlet is one of my biggest obsessions right now.

message 141: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Manette wrote: "I haven't read issue 6 yet. Hopefully soon I'll be ordering it. Scarlet is one of my biggest obsessions right now."

Did you finish vol 1 recently? I'm so excited to see where they go with it. And man, the art is just amazing.

message 142: by [deleted user] (new)

Yeah, I did. It was awesome! At first I was kind of weirded out by Scarlet always turning around and talking to the reader but it just fit her character and really works to pull me more into the story.

And I agree about the artwork. That's a big reason why I love it so much. Since reading Scarlet I've been on the look out for more by Bendis and Maleev. I'm even starting to look into some of the superheroes because of them which is something I never thought I'd get into.

message 143: by [deleted user] (new)

By the way, has anyone read Dream Thief? It's published by Dark Horse. I read the first issue but I'm not totally sure how I feel about it yet. I wasn't totally sold on the art. Part of my problem may be that I read it with the Dark Horse app which I didn't particularly like.

Anna Bananas! Have you started reading East of West? It's a new series from Image loosely based on the story of the Four Horsemen of the Apocalypse. Takes place in the near future and the characters are as interesting as they're drawn. Neat color palettes too.

message 145: by Ma'Belle (new)

Ma'Belle (linguisticness) | 54 comments After reading comics for the past 8 years *strictly* via trade paperbacks and graphic novels from the library (and buying my favourites later), I'm starting to actually care about following some ongoing series.
The ones I'm current on and excited for more to come out:
Locke and Key
Saga
Batgirl (mostly for Simone and the first non-magickal trans woman in a mainstream comic)
Wolverine MAX
Hawkeye

The ones I'm just now starting (having already pirated them issue-by-issue up to date):
I, Vampire
Animal Man (had only read but love and now own Grant Morrison's run)
Swamp Thing (Alan Moore's run was one of my favourite comics series ever)
Batwoman (loved Greg Rucka's run and JHWIII is always great, but never seen him write)
Batman, Incorporated
Action Comics
Justice League Dark (mostly for Constantine)
Batman
Gambit
Fatale
The Manhattan Projects
The Massive (love Woods and the first issue I bought)
Aquaman
Sex
Fashion Beast
Revival
Wolverine and the X-Men

A long time ago I read a lot of Fables, DMZ, and Walking Dead, and I'd like to catch up on those as well.

Anybody who's been reading some of these titles have recommendations about which ones to prioritize?

I haven't read Dream Thief yet.

Can you believe I've never read a Batman comic? I should prob try it. I did buy a couple Batwoman trades recently. Very excited about those.

Mabel, I like Revival although I'm half buying it for the Jenny Frison covers. Maybe try a trade to see how you like it?

I, Vampire started out great and then went downhill but I stuck with it. Overall I liked it. I love the first artistl Andrea Sorrentino iirc. The first two trades are out.

I'm interested in Swamp Thing, Batwoman, and now Batgirl too. A trans character?!

Kelly, I saw Sheltered and I'll be buying it next week! I remembered that great cover from Image ads.
