My new purchases have been sparse as of late. All I picked up today was 47 Ronin, a new miniseries drawn by Stan Sakai. I'm a longtime fan of his other work, Usagi Yojimbo (the samurai rabbit), so I thought I'd check that out. It's an okay read that I'll only recommend to old school samurai fans.

Last week, I picked up Lot 13 which is a new horror miniseries by Steve Niles and Glenn Fabry (Preacher). Haven't read it yet, but I love most of Steve Niles' other works so I'm sure it won't disappoint. Now, NEXT WEEK is what I'm most looking forward to. Half of the stuff on my pull list will have new releases: Gambit, Locke & Key, TWD, and Saga! Has anyone read any of these series below? I'm thinking about starting on them:

Animal Man
Swamp Thing
The Crow
Shinku
Zaucer of Zilk (this one looks really trippy)
Red Sonja: Atlantis Rises

Anna, I also see your beloved Scarlet releasing a new issue next week. I'm sure you jizzed on yourself when you found out haha.

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Next week is comics gold. Gambit and Saga are by far my fave series right now. And OMG YES SCARLET! Total gasm :)

Animal Man was just okay imo but loved the art. I was told u have to read it in conjunction w Swamp Thing.

Lot 13 sounds great. Adding to list.

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Stuck in traffic hell and my shop's about to close. Ah well.

message 54: by michelle+8 (new)

michelle+8 (michelleplus8) Chimney, I read digital, so I don't go into an actual store, but I do have an awesome app that tells me exactly what is coming out this week. The one I use (for Android) is called Comic Shopper. It alerts me when the new list comes out (and the new preview list for next week), then I check off the issues I want to buy to create a shopping list (complete with prices). You can select your favorite publishers to just see what they're putting out, and it tracks the series you have purchased on a "favorites" list so you won't miss the newest issue.

I love it! If you don't have Android, though, there's probably something similar for iPhone.

message 55: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments They don't call about new issues but they do save all issues for me on the series I select. They have a crazy comics fan program.

It's Wednesday! What did you guys pick up? Thoughts on Marvel Now?

From Marvel Now, I got:
Deadpool
Red She-Hulk #58
X-Men Legacy
All New X-Men

And new issues for existing series on my pull:
Saga #7
Gambit #5
TWD #104
Locke & Key, Omega #1

Now excuse me while I retreat to my lair...

message 57: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Have fun in the lair! I'm drooling for Saga and Gambit.

Assuming I make it to the shop on time I'm getting these:
SCARLET!
Saga
Gambit
A-Babies VS X-Babies

And then checking out a bunch of others.

Pick up Locke & Key. Now, Anna. Now.

message 59: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Is that for your blog, Chimney? You should open a thread about it.

message 60: by michelle+8 (new)

michelle+8 (michelleplus8) I just picked up the new Thor, God of Thunder. My husband is really excited about it, and I'm hoping it's good. I was pretty disappointed with The Mighty Thor.

message 61: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Dammit, no Scarlet and she's not confirmed for next week either. They tease me. *sigh*

I got:
Saga- is that bloody Marko cover not the coolest thing ever?!
Gambit - please start getting really good
Fairest - new arc with Rapunzel is interesting so far
Lot 13 - excited about this one!
Ghost - trying out something new, has a female MC
A-Babies vs X-Babies - freaking CUTE
Criminal Macabre - like the cover, intrigued

message 62: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments I'm already laughing!
"So, yeah, you're buying a book where babies fight
babies. What does that say about you?"

And the credits :) - Big Boy Words, Pretty Picture, Alphabet, Babysitter, etc

message 63: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments The Ever Lovin' End - noooo!

I chuckled on almost every page. This is adorable. Cyclops, Wolverine (calling everyone bub), and Gambit with his cards were my favorites. I liked the block letters forming SMASH around the Hulk. And Phoenix at the end was lol funny.

I want more!

message 64: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Oh, wait it's a one-shot, so it could be picked up as a series. At least that's how my comic shop folks explained it to me. Fingers crossed.
I totally missed Daredevil. He IS cute. I don't know Deadpool well enough to recognize him. Is that him when Wolverine is crawling out of the floor? Speaking of, I almost bought Deadpool today, but I think I'll wait for the trade. Not sure on the art.

I have questions, which is sad to say about a baby-themed comic.
Is that Magneto in the pink/red and purple suit, with the pacifier? He looks really girly.
Who's holding hands with Storm when Daredevil breaks them apart?

message 65: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Ha, Deadpool-in-a-Box is cute. I'm not sure who the moon guy is either, and I've never heard of Black Panther, but he's adorable.

michelle+8 (michelleplus8) Anna (Bananas!) wrote: "Ha, Deadpool-in-a-Box is cute. I'm not sure who the moon guy is either, and I've never heard of Black Panther, but he's adorable."

Black Panther is a former Avenger and he's Storm's husband.

The baby using the moon as a bottle is Galactus, aka Eater of Worlds. :P

Also, looking over it again I noticed more cute little messages in the blocks, like "GO! WOLVY SNIKT" right behind Wolverine. LOL!

message 67: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Thanks Michelle! That is funny on Galactus. :)
BP and Storm were super cute.

I'm confused, are you guys talking about how you've only just picked up the A babies vs X babies issue or are there two issues? I picked it up ages ago because some of you recommended it and I love it. I almost want to take a six hour train journey to read it to my little brother, I couldn't mail it to him and expect to get it back in one piece!

Yes, Stefani, I was behind the times. Just got it. :)
Awww, super sweet about your brother. This is the cutest comic I have ever seen in my LIFE.

I know, it is so sweet. I'm trying to get everyone I know to read it. The comic book guy wanted to laugh at me when I first got it but I think I managed to regain my cool by buying the first volume of Chew as well.

Although why A-Babies vs X-Babies isn't considered cool I will never understand...

I'm finally going to go into town and pick up my pull list. (On that note sorry for my drunken tweet Kay) I have been so excited to finally get issue 7 of Saga. If Buffy was my gateway comic, Saga pushed me through the gate and locked it up so I could never go back.

message 71: by Stefani - SpelingExpirt, White Rabbit (new)

Stefani - SpelingExpirt (speling_expirt) | 305 comments Mod
Agreed Chimney.

So as well as picking up Saga and Willow Wonderland, I ended up grabbing a few random things as well. I got the first volume of Fables, being in love with all things Fairytales I thought I'd give it a go, I also picked up Halloween Eve - great art, so so story - and Batman Year One for my girlfriend (but actually for me as we have a joint collection now mwahahahaha).

message 72: by Kelly (new)

Kelly (xitomatl) I happened upon a pretty cool comic a few weeks ago, so I thought I'd share it here - it's called Murder Book - written by Ed Brisson, here's the website. There aren't many, and they seem to come out sporadically, but you can read some of them on his site.

If you're a fan of Fatale (or any Brubaker), you'll be a fan of these.

Lol, I just saw this. I'll let you know how I like it next week. Is it in trade yet or single issues only?

Also, that Mumbai Confidential comic was unfindable. (I think you posted that comic art...) It sounds like it's online only right now?

message 74: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Chimney, it's NOT the pinnacle of cool? Then I don't want to be cool. And watch out for the Black Friday crazies. People go batshit.

Jennifer, you got Fables? Enjoy! I loved the art of Halloween Eve but yes it was a dumb, spastic story. Your comment about Saga locking you in made me laugh. It's such a great comic. If I ever meet BKV I'm going to attack him like a lioness in heat.

About Locke & Key: The first five trades are available now. They recently released the first issue for the sixth volume.

I got the digital copy so I'm not sure if Mumbai Confidential is in stores. It will have a hardcover release comprised of all the issues in March.

I think they don't get enough press and so they slide by the wayside without snyone ever knowing they were there. (boo) I get the Previews magazine free in my pullfile so that's how I find out about some of these hidden gems.

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Only 5? Bummer.
But since you like it I'm more excited to read it now.

michelle+8 (michelleplus8) Has anybody been reading The Dreamer (http://thedreamercomic.com)? I saw it recommended on the Flog yesterday, and ended up reading all 15 issues in under 24 hours. I'm a huge American history buff, so I'm loving it!

It must be in my genes. I believe I was born with the gene that gives one a very country sounding accent. I guess it's just my cross to bear. If only I had an English accent. Hi, I'm Bond, James Bond. :)

Janelle | 4 comments Right now I'm reading:

Birds of Prey
Batgirl
Batwoman

I'm looking to get:

Fables
Saga
Fearless Defenders (in Feb)
Justice League (pre- & New 52)
Echo
Secret Six
The Sandman

Curious to learn more about Deadpool as well. So much goodness and not enough money!

Bob DAMN YOU MARVEL!!!!!!!!!!!!! You've sucked me into your Marvel Now Universe. *sigh* Is there no hope for me. I'll list the ones on my pull list later after I recover from the shock of adding even more titles to my pull list. I could sure use a cyber hug. sniff. :)

*hugsies*

From Marvel Now, I got the first issues to:
X-Men Legacy
Thunderbolts (I'm most excited about this series and Cable & X-Force. Thunderbolts felt pretty quick. I'm looking forward to the second issue.)
Deadpool (First issue is ehh. I didn't think going after dead presidents was an interesting nor original concept.)
Cable and X-Force (Enjoyed it.)
Red She-Hulk
All New X-Men
Avengers Arena (I'm actually not interested in reading this one. I just picked it up because I love the cover spoof of Battle Royale.)

I'm looking to read the first 1-2 issues of all these series and narrowing it down to a select few so that my pull list is affordable every month lol. Definitely looking forward to Uncanny X-Force and the new Wolverine series next year.

As for non-superhero, all I picked up recently is Criminal Macabre; the mini-series that's crossing over with 30 Days of Night. I also got issue #105 of the TWD that I'm about to go read now. It's finally starting to pick back up again! Thank you, jeebus.

message 91: by Anna (Bananas) (new)

Anna (Bananas) | 757 comments Bob, hugs to you but you'll be just fine. You're in comics heaven now.

Kay, I love that Battle Royale cover! Thinking of buying it for the same reason. The Criminal Macabre cover is great too.

New Saga next week!

message 92: by Bob (new)

Bob Thanks for the hugs everybody. Believe me I need all of the hugs I can get.

Okay in in addition to the Fantastic Four and The All New X-Men that I already said I was reading in the new Marvel Now Universe I've been sucked into I'm also reading Captain America, A+X, Avengers, and The Uncanny Avengers. There are also some titles that have yet to be released that I want to try out also. I may end up living on the streets but at least I'll have my comics. :)

I finally got to the store today (was far too cold on Wednesday to try leaving my flat) and picked up:
Saga - loved it, I adore the relationship between Alana and Marko's dad.
And some Marvel Now
Avengers Arena
Captain America
Iron Man
X Men Legacy.
Not read the Marel Now yet, wanted to pick up more titles but these were the only ones I could find. How long has Marvel Now been going? Are these weekly or monthly titles? I'd have asked the nice comic book man but the guy who orders them wasn't in today.
