I think this is a legitimate book but it and dozens of similar items have been NAB'd in the last two days.

Am I wrong? If so, fine; if not, someone needs to inform the librarian doing this. And, of course, reverse the NABs.

Thanks for the input.

Lobstergirl You are correct, that is a book. Sheet music is a book.

message 3: by Jessica (new)

Jessica | 66 comments Looking at the list, they are music scores so maybe the librarian who NAB'd them feels those are not books? Don't know about GR's policy regarding music scores, but it does feel nice to know they are included on here (with people adding & rating them etc.)

message 4: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl I just sent her a message.

message 5: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Under the NOT A BOOK author is a long list of things which can be nabbed.

Excerpt:

These items are not books:
* multi-packs of the same book
*** dumpbin, dump bin, dumpb, dumpbi, dumpbn, dbin,
.....
* music (esp soundtracks) (but not bound sheet music)

message 6: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl In fact if you look at the combine page for just one of these improperly nabbed authors, someone has already added librarian notes asking people not to NAB!

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments But it appears that many of these were done during an import.

message 8: by MissJessie (new)

MissJessie | 866 comments I don't think it changed the "author" field; others, yes. The table below shows a GR librarian's name and if you go to their edits and look, it shows that they changed it, at least the ones I checked.

message 9: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments Ahh i see now. I'm glad they were not changed by an import.

message 10: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Has she stopped doing this? She didn't respond to my PM.

message 11: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Maybe Rivka needs to intervene, she also had nabbed an autobiography (i.e. text) of a musician.

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments I had sent her a message on oct. 1. She didn't respond to me either

Lobstergirl I've reversed a bunch of her edits but many more remain.

I think in cases like this the librarian should always get a PM from Rivka or staff; it shouldn't be left up to civilians. I don't mind sending a PM here and there, especially in cases of emergency, but it's not a sufficient policy. Someone who NABs or deletes so many things - items which have been shelved and rated by people - is being clueless (unless they're being malicious, which I usually don't assume). If you're going to take the time to NAB so many items, wouldn't you read through the list of things which can appropriately be NABbed? I would.

Susanna - Censored by GoodReads (susannag) | 68 comments I have a related question: is a "book" like Up kosher? I can't tell if it's sheet music, or the music album, or what it is. (So I haven't touched it - I am curious about it, however.)

In Time: The Best of Rem 1988-2003 looks to be the album (listed as "recording," format "CD-audio"). It was added by Ingram. Is that OK?

Looks to be a bound score, so it's fine.

I NAB'd the other.

message 16: by MissJessie (new)

MissJessie | 866 comments I have also messaged her and asked her to work on reversing her (I am sure) honest mistake. Nothing.

I have been working on reversal, but it's going to take a long time; there are hundreds of entries.

Rivka, have you messaged her yet? Perhaps you could ask her to work on it too.

Lobstergirl Ok, update, I unNabbed every musical score that someone hadn't already gotten to. She had 353 pp. of librarian edits and the improper NABs were at the front end (I stopped at p. 113 of her edits and since I had stopped seeing any musical scores I'm going to assume there weren't any past that point.) Her librarian edits all seemed legit, except for the scores.

Debbie's Spurts (D.A.) | 6325 comments Uhm...I have a question about her changing the originl publication date for Dance with Dragons from 2011 to 2001 (book 5 in game of thrones and book 4 wasn't published until 2005 and as a fan who kept pre-ordering the elusive #5 every time a name and a publication date were announced and watching other fans gets as cranky as I was waiting on the thing...I am very, very sure was not a 2001 book in any format or language. Author's website says 2011 also at http://www.georgerrmartin.com/bibliog...).

So, I'm not as sure all the edits were legit.

message 19: by Lobstergirl (new)

Lobstergirl Okay! It turns out I spoke too soon. There are tons and tons of musical scores which have been Nabbed but for some reason were not showing up among her librarian edits.

Honestly I don't know how one human can do so much Nabbing...

http://www.goodreads.com/book/combine...

but a cursory glance at just page one of the NABS here shows that the vast majority of them are music scores.

So obviously some help is needed here.

message 20: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments I know - I just saw those myself. How in the world did she do this? I have been working on them off and on.

message 21: by Emy (last edited Dec 23, 2012 06:40AM) (new)

Emy (emypt) | 5037 comments I was going to go in and help, but got overwhelmed by just the first page!

For example, 17 Super Christmas Hits seems to be in God knows how many versions, some of which are NAB, some aren't, some touched by Otis... So scared to breathe on them ;)

EDIT: Not a book seems to have been NAB-ed by the author, unless I'm misreading the log? Reverse?

message 22: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments It looks like that one is a book that was not published.

I don't see that one, did it get deleted?

message 24: by Melody (new)

Melody (runningtune) | 13300 comments I deleted it. No ISBN - no reference to it anywhere else. No one had indicated they had read it.
