How about One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest. Seems appropriate for the month since this month contained banned books week

London, 1850 is a relatively short book featuring vampires; it's the first in a children's horror trilogy that I quite like. It's rather obscure, though, so you might not be able to find a copy.

As another option, Carmilla is a public domain vampire novella from the 1800's that you should be able to find free online. :)

Thanks for the suggestions. Carmilla is too short (150 page minimum) and I am not sure about the other one. I think I am going with Carpe Jugulum (as long as I am allowed a re-read!)

I still have to do the entire series of Parasol Protectorate for the challenge anyway (but they are bonus and can't count for any of the tasks)!! I love challenges so it will be fun anyway.

message 193: by Melissa (new)

Melissa I need some help picking 2 books, I need to read two classics before the end of the year. The problem is I have a hard time getting into the classics because of the writing style of some of them... I've tried The Picture of Dorian Gray and Gulliver's travels and my mind wandered and I couldn't stay focused on either one. I did read Tom Sawyer and Treasure Island and they were ok.

so, any suggestions? It doesn't have to be on my TBR-owned list if its pretty readily available in libraries.

So, pick it for me please? Any book, it just has to be considered a "classic" that is pretty easy to get into.
