Edgar A | 2 comments The name of the book I am reading is New Moon by Stephenie Meyer.
I chose this book to read because I heard that it was a good book by some people. I have never read any books from this author before. Yes it is a part of the Twilight series.
Describe their characterization qualities. The main character of the book is Bella Swan. The has brown hair and she is very shy type and she is about 17 in this book. The main conflict in the book is with Bella, Jacob, Edward. Edward broke up with Bella and Jacob was there for her and that created a bond with them and Jacob became a werewolf told Edward she was dead Edward wanted to kill himself Bella goes saves him they get back together leaves Jacob all alone but Jacob fights for Bella. Edward will ask Bella to marry him because they both love each other and to keep Jacob away and to solve all their problems with her dad and the love triangle.

Ciara T (CiaraTSFHS) | 1 comments I am currently reading Angelfire, by Courtney Allison Moulton. The reason I chose this book is because I thought the cover art was very interesting, and so I picked it out. The type of books I read are usually this kind; realistic fiction, fantasy, adventure and intensity. I have never read a book by Moulton before, but I would like to read more. Angelfire is a series, though I’m not sure how many books exactly. I would like to read the second one, but I have to wait until it comes in in the library. The main character of the book, Elisabeth “Ellie” Monroe is your almost average 16 going on 17 year old girl. She’s had a good life so far, a loving mother, a roof over her head, and great friends. Things turn bad when her dad becomes abusive, emotionally at first, then physically. Then she meets Will. She has a major sense of de ja vu, and instantly becomes attracted to him. She doesn’t know it yet, but she’s known Will for centuries, and there’s records of her, the Preliatior, dating back to ancient Rome. I think the major conflict in the story is Ellie finding her way through life. She has to deal with the fact that she’s a centuries old warrior, who gets reincarnated every time she dies, though she doesn’t recognize it. She also has to deal with her father becoming hateful, and her mother doing everything she can to protect her. Along the way, she also deals with love and lies. Her best friend, Landon, has been in love with her, but she doesn’t feel the same way. She has to lie to her friends and family, and she feels terrible. Although it seems like she’s only known Will for a few months, her soul has known him for forever. He’s her Guardian, a special person chosen to protect her until they die. He also Awakens her, and trains her to become the warrior she is. He’s been in love with her for forever, but because she’s also an archangel, their love is forbidden. In the end, I believe Ellie will accept her life and her fate, and face the fact that she is no longer a “normal” girl.

Mia B. (MiaBSFHS) | 3 comments I am currently reading the book Sexy by Joyce Carol Oates. I chose to read this book because I read the inside cover to get a good idea of what the book is about, considering the title doesn’t help too much. When I skimmed the summary the book provided, I thought it sounded really interesting and the author did a great job of capturing my attention to continue reading. Although I have never read books by this author, let alone heard of her, and this novel isn’t a series, I was still very interested in my choice. My protagonist for this novel is named Darren Flynn. So far in this story, he is thought to be fairly handsome or sexy by many people; classmates, friends, even his family and some teachers are aware of his good looks. He’s on the swim team, and not just on it, he’s good and his coach sees a lot of potential in him. Darren is one of the shiest guys despite his looks and after a strange ride home offered to him by his English teacher on a stormy, winter day night, he can’t even look at his teacher the same way. By the end of the book, I believe Darren Flynn will have improved on his swimming tremendously and I think with the help of a girl, Molly Rawlings, he will also improve his overall grades for school. I think this will happen because he knows that he can and should improve on both those things and especially if he has a good influence, he can accomplish anything.

Zach T (ZachTSFHS) | 2 comments I am currently reading South Side Sports by Jeff Rud. I chose this book because it is football season and that is my favorite sport that I play. This is the first book I have read by this author and it is one of the many of the books in this series. The main character of this novel is Matt Hill is an experienced basketball player and goes out for football his 8th grade year. Matt is a very tall, smart, and athletic kid. The main conflict in the book is that Matt is going out for football his first year and is dealing with a return of his father who was gone for the last ten years of Matts life. While I continue to read my book I think that there will be a fight between his father and Matt and I believe that Matt will be the starting quarterback for his team.

Jackson B (JacksonBSFHS) | 2 comments I am currently reading Sunrise Over Fallujah by Walter Dean Myers. I choose to read this book because i heard it was about the Iraq war and that interested me. I have never read a book by this author before but so far it's good. This book is not officially part of a series but it does reference other books by the author.
The main character is Robin Perry who is more commonly called "Birdy," he's a loyal, dedicated, and loving soldier who's bravery and reflexes are put to the test on his first mission. The main conflict is the war against Iraqi terrorist Saddam Hussein and finding his weapons of mass destruction but once Saddam is dead the conflict suddenly becomes keeping the peace. I predict by the end of the book that they won't find the weapons of mass destruction and that most of his unit will die from IED's.

Trevor F (trevorfSHFS) | 3 comments The name of my book is Bleachers by John Grisham. I choose to read this book because it has to do with sports. I have never read a book by this author before and I don't think that there is another book. The main character of this book is an old football player and he is kind to people. Also, he works hard at everything he does and his name is Neely. The main conflict is a girl that broke up with him. Neely is goin to find the girl and get back with her.

Monicag | 2 comments I am currently reading the deadly sister, who is written by Eliot Schrefer.
I choose to read this book because I enjoy reading drama, mystery and horror so you might wonder what happens in the story. No I never read books by author but I might read other books the author have wrote. I don’t think it is a part of the series.
The Main character of the book is Abby. She’s is probably a teenager in high school and has a younger sister. She’s seems very calm and kind. Also she is very protective of her younger sister Maya. The conflict in the book is that Abby’s younger sister, Maya was accused of murdering Jefferson Andrews, so Abby have to prove the detectives that she’s innocent.
I don’t think Maya killed Jefferson, There’s a twist in the end of the story that Abby is the one who killed Jefferson, so she might set her sister up by putting a car keys in her jacket. Reason why because Abby might have some relationship with Jefferson . I think why it happen because there are stories you don’t not expect what happen in the story.

Danny J (DannyJSFHS) | 2 comments I am currently reading Harry potter and the half-blood prince by J.K ROWLINGS
I chose this book because I read the first fore books in this series. I have read other books by J.K Rowlings before. There are three main characters such as Ron Wesley, Harry Potter and Herminie Granger. They all go to Hogwarts magical school of wizardry.
The conflict in my book so far is that the dumenters keep looking for valdamort. The dumenters attack the students instead of attacking valdamort. I think that the dumenters are going to keep on attacking students and that the dumenters will not find he who shall not be named.

Maddy P. (MaddyPSFHS) | 1 comments I am currently reading is “The Living Dead Girl” by Elizabeth Scott. When I was looking for a book this book stood out the most me to so I took a look at it and I read the inside cover and I really liked it. Then I asked if this would be a good book and she said it would be a depressing book but it makes you think about how you want our life to be. I don’t think I have ever read any books from this author but I really want to read more of her books. I don’t think this book is part of a series. Alice is the main characters in the book why there are more than one Alice is because he really likes that name and that he tries to find girls that look kind of a like. All the Alice’s are skinny and they don’t listen very well because he likes yelling at them and getting them in their place. The main conflict is that ray is taking these little girl and he makes them think that they are his kids and they really aren’t witch when he says they are perfect they really aren’t because he thinks skinny girls that don’t eat and he treats them like they were married. He also beats the girls when they don’t listen or they get back home at the wrong time and he takes their girlhood away from them. I predict that he won’t Alice go when he said he lets every girl go at 15 and she is 15 and she still is with him and then she is going to do something wrong to try and get away and he is going to kill her.

Michelle (MichelleRSFHS) | 4 comments At the moment I’m reading Harry Potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban by J.K. Rowling. The reason why I stated reading this seven book series is because my sister made me read the first chapter of the first book and I sadly started to like the book. Then I finished the first book and she gave me the next book and so on. My book is about Harry Potter a wizard that grew up in the muggle world because his wizard parents died saving him from Lord Voldemort (the most powerful evil wizard there was). Voldemort couldn't kill Harry when he was a baby or when harry was eleven and twelve years old. In this series of books Harry is the seeker on the Gryffindor Quidditch team at Hogwarts (a school for magic). Harry is the best the team has seen for more than one hundred years. So far in the book he has won his first Quidditch cup and he was extremely happy. He was so happy that he forgot about Sirius black, one of lord Voldemort followers, oh and Harry’s Godfather. Teachers and students (who know about Black being Harry’s godfather) are all questioning how Black turned evil especially when Harry’s mother and father trusted him to be there Secret-keeper when they went into hiding from Lord Voldemort, and Black just told Voldemort where they were hiding. From all that I am predicting that Sirius Black will be a good guy and that Ron’s rat that is really human told lord Voldemort where the Potter’s where hiding. Also that Professor Lupin is a werewolf and that he is on Blacks side I know this because I have seen all of the Harry Potter movies with my sisters who by the are complete geeks when it comes to Harry Potter.

Jessy L (JessyLSFHS) | 2 comments Currently I am reading the book Extremely Loud & Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer. I chose to read this book mainly because it is about 9/11. I thought I could relate to this book easily and it would be a topic that I already have background knowledge about. The main character of this book is Oskar. Oskar is a loud and outgoing person. He always has a bunch of questions to ask about everything he hears. The main conflict of this book so far, is that Oskar’s father gave him a map of central park with no clues of what he was looking for or where to find whatever it was. Another conflict is that his father was just in the attack of the World Trade Center. I predict that Oskar will continue to try and figure out the map that he was given, and see if there are any hidden clues. I think that because his father died, it will urge him to figure out what the hidden message is.

Bailey (BaileyBSFHS) | 2 comments I am currently reading The Hunger Games by Suzanne Collins. I chose this book becuase I thought that I might be inerested in it when my friends would talk about it and I wanted to be able to talk about it too. I have not read any books by this author in the past. But, I do plan to read the rest of The Hunger Games series. The main character of the book is Katniss Everdeen and her little sister, Primrose Everdeen. Katniss is the older one and she is athletic and she is also the hunter for her family. The main conflict of the book so far is they are getting ready for the reaping day which is the day that someone from her district and all the other districts gets chosen to compete in The Hunger Games. I think that Katniss will be picked for her ditrict to compete in The Hunger Games. I think that this could be possible because she is the main character and it would just make sense that she would be the one to get picked. So far, it is a pretty good book.

Abbey Q (AbbeyQSFHS) | 2 comments I am currently reading The Hunger Games, by Suzanne Collins. I chose this book because it seemed very action packed and my friends told me the book was very interesting. This book is the first one out of three. The main character is Katniss. She is trying to survive in the hunger games as people are trying to kill her first. She is very adventuress and is very strong. What is happening in the book is she has made it so far that she is a target to kill first so they come after her but she has gotten away with her friend Peeta. In the end I believe her and Peeta will be friends and maybe more. I think this because in the beginning they really didn’t know each other and didn’t like each other and maybe they would end up finding things they have in common and be friends.

message 69: by Ben (new)

Ben L | 2 comments I am currently reading Life on Mars, a compilation of short, fictitious stories on possible futures and environments of how humans may interact with Mars in the near and far future. There are multiple authors, but the editor who put the stories together is Jonathan Strahan. I chose to read this book because I’ve recently finished my independent reading novel, and just want an easy, fun read with many concepts and endings. I was also intrigued by the explored thought of human relations on Mars and how this may be possible. So many different settings all revolved around one main idea broadens your spectrum on what may be conceivable and what may not. For example, the first short story involves a small base camp inside a large dome to provide oxygen for the people and protect structures from the immensely powerful solar winds. They need food for survival, so the group of people create an economy based off of farm products that grow abundantly in the warm weather of inside the dome. There are so many variables to life on Mars, which makes each story so invigoratingly unique. The main characters can range from scrawny twelve year olds trying to make their way in the harsh world, or old men creating new technologies to make life on Mars easier. From the stories I’ve read so far, the obvious conflict is Mars’ weather and atmosphere. Each story creates its own method to deal with these struggles in unique ways that represent the surroundings; whether that be a large steampunk city terraforming the land around it or an underground fortress where above ground atmosphere isn’t a big issue. Although predicting the ending for all these stories would be unnecessary, I can say this: no matter where we humans may end up in the future, I’m sure of the fact that we will adapt to the surroundings, no matter how extreme, because we’ve done it many times before. If this means settling on a new planet with punishing atmosphere and life-threatening climates then so be it.

Payton B | 2 comments I am currently reading All Unquiet Things by Anna Jarzab. I chose to read this book, because Mrs. Degenhardt recommended it to me since I am interested in mystery and/or horror. I have never read any books by this author, and many people have said she was good, so that is another reason why I chose to read this book. The main character in the book is named Neily Monroe. He is not that friendly or sociable, but he has a few friends that he talks to. He doesn't get along very well with his father, but he does get along a little with his mother. His ex girlfriend was murdered. Ever since that, he hasn't been as loving and happy. I predict that he will be the one that murdered Carly(His ex girlfriend). But, he doesn't remember it, that is why he has no clue of it. It think this, because lately he has been having nightmares of her being killed and it happens almost every night. He has a therapist/councelor her goes to talk to at school and she thought he could have been the one too. So far it is a good book, and I can't wait to find out what happens.

Martha M | 3 comments I am currently reading the book What They Found: Love on 145th Street by Walter Dean Meyers. I chose to read this book because the description sounded interesting and it seemed like something I would enjoy. Also, Ms. Degenhardt mentioned that the author is a really good writer, so I picked this book, and I agree. This book is not part of a series, and it's the first book I've read by Walter Dean Meyers. Instead of one long story, this book has many short stories that all take place in the same community. Most of the stories have different characters but in all of the stories it tells about a character and their love for someone or something. One of the main stories takes place at the Curl-E-Que beauty shop. This is a shop owned by Abeni, who is 18 years old, and her family. Abeni is a smart and dedicated charater. She really cares about her job at the beauty shop and for her family and friends. At the Curl-E-Que beauty shop many customers come in to tell Abeni and her family stories about their lives. Abeni is very understanding and gives the people good advice. Although there are many different stories in this book, in most the conflicts are about love or friendship. I think in the end, all of the characters will come to the right decisions in their lives and end up with the ones they love.

Conor O (ConorOSFHS) | 1 comments Currently, I am reading "The Hunger Games, Catching Fire" By Suzzane Collins. I chose this book because it's the second book of the series, and I had found the first one very intriguing. The main character in my book is Kattniss Everdeen, she has just won The Hunger Games, and is now on tour. The tour has just started and problems are beggining to arise. I truly think that Kattniss or someone close to her will be hurt because of her decisions. Hopefully not, but I guess I'll have to read to find out!

Sara S (SaraSSFHS) | 1 comments I am currently reading the hunger games, the author is Suzanne Collins
I chose to read this book because it seemed like it was interesting and I wanted to read something that’s interesting and different from what I normally read. I have not read any other books by this author before. it is the hunger games series.
The main character is Katniss Everdeen she is selfish but caring and she is using peeta because the capital would think that they were tricking the capital of their
She was in the hunger games with Peeta Mellark and she couldn’t kill him at the end so she pulled out poisonous berry’s and she and him were ganna eat them so the capitol could not have their victor but them announced they both won and the president think they were showing up the capital. Now they have started a rebellion but it didn’t stop the president from having the next annual hunger games. He put all the victors into it and now peeta and katniss are back in the games. The game maker has a plane with some of the tributes to break them out this year and take them back to district 13.
I think that district 12 is going to be bombed because then katniss or peeta will have know home to come home to since they caused a rebellion in most of the districts.

Maddy | 1 comments Right now I am reading the book The Other Side Of Dark by Sarah Smith. I chose this book because it sounded interesting. I have never read a book by Sarah Smith. The book is not part of a series. It’s sort of a mystery book but yet it’s not really a mystery. There are two main characters in my book. There is Katie and Law. Katie is not your average teenage girl. She sees ghosts. She is always talking to ghost and when people look at her and they think she is crazy. Everybody calls her Crazy Katie. Law is a boy who wants to become an architect. His mom wants to save pinebank an old house in Massachusetts, but his dad wants them to take it down. Law is stuck in the middle of his parents arguing about Pinebank. He just wants them to agree. Law wants his mom to win. Katie is a small short teenage girl who everybody just knows as Crazy Katie. Law is a teenage boy and that’s really all I can describe about him. The conflict in the book is all about saving Pinebank and saving the treasure in the pinebank house. My prediction in the end of the book is that they are going to tear down Pinebank and they will get the treasure and everyone will be happy except for Law’s Dad.

Taylor T | 2 comments Right now I am reading Forgotten by Cat Patrick. My friend found the book and since she already had a book, she said that I should read it. The book is fiction about a high school girl named London; who can’t remember away thing in the past, but can see things that will happen in the future. There are only two people in the world that know about this – her mom and her best friend, Jamie. She makes it by each day by the help of her mom, her friend, and notes that she takes every day. A few weeks into the school year a kid named Luke starts going to her school. The two of them start to have strong feelings for one and other, so they start to date. For London to go each day dating someone who she only knows by what she wrote in her notes, must be really hard for her. I think that Luke will find out about London’s secret some how and the two of them will break up. I know that the two of them care about each other very much, but I think that they will break up if he finds out about her secret because London may not want him to know or because Luke found out about it earlier on but he never told her.

Savanna K (SavannaKSFHS) | 1 comments I am currently reading She Said/She Saw by Norah McClintock. I chose to read this book because the format of the book is different than most books. Every other chapter is a different sister talking, Tegan and Kelly. They are the two main characters in this book. Tegan, in the back seat of a car, witnessed her two best friends getting shot right in front seat of a car. Tegan keeps telling the cops that she didn’t see anything. No one believes that, of course, Kelly feels bad for Tegan but is also going along with everyone at school by pretending that Tegan is invisible, like no one can see her. I think that Tegan will tell the cops what she saw on accident and everyone will be thankful she told but will still be hateful towards her because she didn’t come forward right away.

Dustin S | 1 comments The book that I am reading is called Fallen Angels by Walter Dean Myers. I chose this book because I like this authors books. The most recent book that I read by him was Sunrise Over Fallujah. Which is actually another war book. The main character of the story is Richie Perry who is a very down to earth kind of guy that tries to find the good in everything and a man named Peewee. Peewee is a sort of in your face kind of guy who will start a fight with you even if your bigger than him. Since the book is about the characters being in the Vietnam war the main conflict is them fighting in a war. I think that they will end up getting into a big battle and one of Perry’s friends will get shot or get lost. I think this because they have been talking about what would happen if they did get in a battle and that’s what I think would happen.

Jessica (JessicaRSFHS) | 2 comments Right now, I'm reading Candy by Kevin Brooks. I wanted to read this book because it seemed interesting to me. This book is about a 17 year old boy who doesn't really know what to do with his life yet. His parents are divorced, his mother never wanted kids, his dad is never home, and his sister is moving out. All he ever is, is alone. Until, he meets Candy. Candy changes Joe's life forever, after Joe meets Candy, she’s all he can think about. Joe doesn’t know who Candy is, where she lives or even her age. But, he doesn’t care about any of that All he wants is Candy. She’s everything to him, even though they only met once. Even though I’m not that far into my book, I think Joe will stay in love with Candy. But, I think she knows that he really likes her and she’s just going to play him until she gets what she wants. Torturing him with her mind games. Making him want what he knows he can’t have.

Heather B (16hmbrum) | 1 comments I am currently reading The List, by Vivian Siobhan It is not a series. To be honest I just randomly picked this book out because the title sounded interesting. I haven’t read other books by this author but she wrote the Pretty Little Liars book series and I watch the TV series. In this book every chapter is a different persons point of view, the most interesting characters to talk about are probably Sarah (The ugliest junior)who has decided to rebel against the list and make herself as ugly as possible, by not showering for a whole week, not brushing her teeth and wearing the same clothes every day and Jennifer (The ugliest senior) who is now nominated for homecoming queen? The main conflict right now is, its homecoming week and "The List" is out, the list is made up by an unknown person and it states who is the prettiest girl from each grade and who is the ugliest girl. The pretty girls seem to be having the time of their lives while the so called “ugly” ones have to go through humiliation everyday by their “friends” and other classmates. Sarah is planning on ruining the homecoming dance, and Jennifer is running for homecoming queen, thanks to her so called “friends” who are the head cheerleaders, yeah that makes sense right? I think that someone will find out who made the list and they will either tell everyone or keep it to themselves and make the list nextsomeone has to know who made the list and they might tell someone who tells everyone. year. I think this will happen because i mean its high school girls, they cant keep this a secret too long.

Alex A (AlexASFHS) | 2 comments I am currently reading “Streams of Babel” by Carol Plum-Ucci. I chose this book because it looked interesting and I wasn’t sure what book to read, so I took this one. I have never read a book like this but I am glad I picked this book because it is really interesting, and I believe it is part of a series so I will definitely read the next book.

In this book there is no real main character because each chapter it puts you in the perspective of a new person. One of the main characters is Cora Holman, she is a shy person with good manners and was never very popular.

So far in my book the conflict is trying to find the bio terrorists that poisoned the water supply in colony one with an untraceable substance called red vinegar. In the book it says the only way for the substance to effect anyone is by drinking it, it is perfectly safe for bathing and everything but if you drink it, it will wear your body’s immune system down and you could die of something such as a brain aneurism. Just like Cora Holman’s mother and a neighbors mother who was sick but they both died around the same time of the same thing… sounds suspicious.

I think more people in the city will die and by the end of the book it will transfer to other cities and kill thousands maybe millions of people but I think eventually the terrorists will be tracked down. I think that the water will become “infected” in other cities because they call this first one “Colony One” so there will be a colony two, colony three, and so on. Lastly I think the terrorists will be caught because it just sounds like a good ending to the book and everyone can get there closure.

Alex Schuette | 2 comments My book is First Strike by Jack Higgins. I picked this book out because it looked like something that I'd like to read. I like to read adventure or mystery books. This book is part of a series that I didn't know about, so I'm sadly reading the last book. There's no clear main character, and I think for the conflict there seems to be some kind of assassination going on. So far the book hasn't gotten anywhere. It started out with two people talking in a hospital cafeteria. Then something happened in a room and now they're in a car chase trying to catch someone who's stalled an ambulance. I'm going to go back to re-read, and hopeful find out whats going on otherwise I may have to drop this book. I think that the book has potential, but I hope that it's enough for me to keep reading it.
