I'd better give people a choice since I know most lists I have voted on tend to be "Favourite children's book" or "Best Financial book"!

message 102: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Oh yeah, I kept meaning to say - please go vote on lists guys! It'll give us all more choice, especially for those who have only friended a few people.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Or if you want to loophole it. Just find a book you want to read, look
for a list it is on and then friend someone who voted on it ;-)

message 104: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Lol, there's always that :)

message 105: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Seems like too much effort!

message 106: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith It is, but it's the kind of thing I sometimes do when I'm desperate to fit a book in! Although frankly, I think I sometimes spend so much time trying to fit my books into challenges I could just read a whole novel instead.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Well as a last resort! I had no problems with that one I had 107 pages of lists to choose from. It seems my goodreads friends are very into the the democratic process!

message 108: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith 107 pages of lists?! WOW.

message 109: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Lu has voted on the list: Best Books Ever. It has over 20,000 books on it. If you can't find a book on that list, there is something wrong with you. :)

message 110: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith LOL :)

message 111: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I have to say, I'm enjoying exploring the features so far, and I haven't even gone through all the tasks yet. I found a few nice books on the list of 'Popular' fiction (although sadly, most of the books there are from YA romance series. There's clearly a serious bias among Goodreads users...).

I've had a look at some of the quotes and found quite a few that I really like, but cannot necessarily find the book they come from. Any chance we can read a bok by the author of the quote, but not necessarily the book it comes from?

Ignore this, I discovered it's a lot easier to search by author (of book you want to read in any case) and find a quote to match! Loophole for anybody else in need of one...

message 114: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Hehe, that's already what I've been doing... I just really like to look through quotes anyway.

message 115: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
I did that too. Just went through the books I wanted to read and find one with a quote I liked in a category that is a passion of mine.

Me too. Sometimes I just browse through the quotes and there are some great ones out there.

message 116: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 2730 comments Mod
The problem is that the great ones tend to be by Albert Einstein and Groucho Marx, etc. Oscar Wilde's plays tend to be shorter than 150 pages, so not exactly easy challenge fodder!

message 117: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith I found some nice ones that unfortunately didn't have a suitable tag, or didn't have any tag at all. Perhaps I should amend it to "find a quote that inspires you" and leave out the bit about the tags? There's less exploration involved, but it's simpler.

message 118: by Carolien (new)

Carolien (carolien_s) | 2730 comments Mod
i don't think you have to change it. There are so many quotes that you should be able to find something that work - it may not be your favourite favourite, but it will meet the challenge criteria.

message 119: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Ok, will leave it as is. I didn't expect that anyone would necessarily find a favourite quote; just a good one will do. It helps to spend some time going through the quotes; the best ones aren't always on top, and reading quotes makes you want to read more books :)

message 120: by Lauren (last edited Oct 14, 2012 12:26AM) (new)

Lauren Smith I just wanted to add one rule for that task - you can't add a quote to use, or ask someone to add a quote for you!

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Damn you ruined my loophole!

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
What I have enjoyed most about this challenge (so far) is discovering the goodreads blog. I never really payed any attention to it but know I am addicted, I love all their statistics etc.

Liezel (liezkl) | 736 comments Select a book from your TBR list that has a quiz about it. To find a quiz relating to a certain book, click on the book's name to view the details, on the right hand side there is a section which says "Trivia about [book name]" or go to Explore -> Quizzes and type the book's name in the Search bar on the top right-hand side. Once you have completed the book, take the quiz (which must have at least 5 questions) and post the book read along with you quiz score.

message 125: by Lauren (new)

Lauren Smith Hi everyone

A new round of nominations will start tomorrow (Monday). I won't be online to update until Tuesday or Wednesday, so just letting you know. Everyone can start nominating again from Midnight tonight. There are 8 tasks left.

message 126: by Claudia (new)

Claudia (claudiavstoomanybooks) | 1779 comments Quick Barbara, I'll put Changeless on my TBR list and then you can go make up a quiz about it.
Just kidding. :P

Lol!
Only if you do the same with Blameless for me.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Oh pick me I've always wanted to make a quiz! Any requests?

message 129: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Sorry girls, I found a book I could use on my TBR shelf so I won't be using any loopholes for this task. So all deals are off. Maybe you two can make a deal with each other. :)

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
According to Goodreads their 3 most popular groups are Paranormal Romance & Urban Fantasy, The Sword and Laser and Boxall's 1001 Books You Must Read Before You Die Choose one of these groups (you don't have to join) and read a book off their bookshelf.
You can find these groups by clicking on the Group heading and entering the group name into the search engine.

Go to You Profile. Just under your picture you will see stats like mine:

#25 best reviewers
#47 top users
#11 most followed
#14 top reviewers
#34 top librarians

(PS Lauren F and I know that these haven't been updated in a long time, but anyway)

Then you choose the one that you are the closest to being first.

You then choose the person that is 1 number lower that you (so I choose #10 most followed). Then you read 1 book that is on their To-Read List or Read List.

Carolien (carolien_s) | 2730 comments Mod
Go to Groups at the top of the page. In the right hand column of the page you will find "Groups Reading my To-Read books". Read one of the books. To complete the task tell us which group was reading the book and for which month they read it.

I just checked this and only have one of these listed. The problem is that the person one below me is 11 years old so I may have a battle on my hands to find a book that meets our criteria in length. Can I go 2 below?

What if a person has none of these stats?

Love the idea - never knew these existed!

message 134: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
I think everyone should atleast have 1 stat. If not we can work it out when it happens :)

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Hi I checked the stat were up dated on Saturday, I think it is an awesome one Lu! But then I have lots of stats to choose from too :)

message 136: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Lol I see you are: #1 best reviewers

So fortunately you won't be able to choose that one lol

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) wrote: "Hi I checked the stat were up dated on Saturday, I think it is an awesome one Lu! But then I have lots of stats to choose from too :)"

Actually you have a problem. I checked your stats and you have to choose #2 top readers and the number 3 on that list has nothing on his/her to read list.
I thought I had it bad, because mine has mostly manga books on his/her to read list. I have actually a grand total of 5 books to choose from that aren't manga or part 2 (or higher) in a series.

message 138: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
She would have to choose nr 1 not nr 3

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
I don't know how I am the second best reader in a
SA I thought you had to ready a book from the person above you on the list I'm obviously not that good a reader!
But hold on if that is the case then I can use the best reviewer list because surely the closest to being first is first! I thought the only reason we couldn't use it was because there had to be someone ahead of me.

message 140: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
@Lu: Ooh, I thought below you on the list was the person under you on the page. But you mean the one higher on the list. Oh that might increase the books I can read. :)

@Lauren: No, because then there wouldn't be someone higher on the list for you to use.

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Oh see we are interpreting Lu's directions 2 different ways we need clarifications because I'm confused!

message 142: by Barbara (new)

Barbara | 4434 comments Mod
Yeah Lu, could you give us a concrete example with numbers etc? So we know what we are doing. Because I am also no longer sure which book I can read.
Thanks!

message 143: by Lu (new)

Lu | 12672 comments Mod
Guys read my nomination again I gave an example of what I should read and there you can see I talk about nr 10, I am number 11 on the list.

So just again for clarification, if you are number 3, read n umber 2's book. If you are nr 40, read nr 39's book :)

Lauren (Sugar & Snark) | 1262 comments Mod
Ok great so I read something off No. 1 got it thanks :-)
