BUG: Careful with that Author Merge!

I just logged this bug in the Feedback group regarding the author merge tool. It looks like, at least in some cases, the merge tool merges the authors, but then deletes the merge-from author from the book records.

Keep an eye out for that, and be prepared to do a bit of editing by hand until that gets fixed (if it's widespread).

People should not be merging that much anyways, since it is a rare occurrence that the author is not a legit entry.

It bugs me when people go merging authors who with names in multiple languages.

I don't know how you know other people are merging to much authors. Of course, errors are made sometimes and profiles are merged that shouldn't, I agree. But there are many profiles with spaces between initials, no dots after initials, typing errors and all other things that don't follow the rules.

In any case, it does not appear to be a widespread issue.

So, should we leave alone multiple entries of the same author, because of the spelling?
I.e. if Geza Roheim, Géza Róheim and Géza Roheim are the same author, their profiles should be merged.
