Please feel free to comment on your observations, thoughts, quibbles, and reservations about the original six Dune novels in this thread.

Jonesmikey | 1 comments The only problem would be Vladimir Harkonnen's persona taking over Alia in Children of Dune. Women's other memory only follows the female line, thus, no Baron. I thought it might be because she was preborn, like Leto II. But that's not true, either, because his twin sister Ghanima only had female ancestral memories. I think the author was taking a little license there. That's fine with me because it was a cool plot twist.

I had similar reservations at first about the Baron's possession. I suspect that it may have been because both Paul and Alia were Atriedes--also Alia was to have been the intended only child that Jessica was to have. One has to assume that the BG had some inkling of Alia's possible powers--as the only child--and would possibly pass them on to the Kwisatz Haderach that she was to have. Paul put a huge wrench in all those plans.

I was never positive that Ghanima couldn't access male memories so much as she chose to only access the female ones. The only sequences where any accessing happens is when she and Leto II are conversing together.

It is a quandary though. I have to admit that I'm having more difficulty looking at motivations behind characters in the Orig6 though as I continue to read the BH & KJA contributions to the Duneverse.
