Do you hate the use of GIFs?

Here is how to block gifs. I will spoon-feed you:

In Firefox - Type about:config and change the value of string image.animation_mode from normal to none.

In Internet Explorer - Tools -> Options -> Advance. Uncheck the box in Multimedia group that says "Play animations in web pages"

And honestly, if moving/flashing images are a medical danger to you, and you haven't adjusted your browser to not display them, then you don't get to whine about their abundance on the internet.
Be pro-active and take care of it yourself!!

I don't hate GIFs but I just don't think they have a place in book reviews. At least not as often as they are. I am sure that once in a while there is the perfect moment for a GIF, but it shouldn't be all the time and it shouldn't be a long list of them

Now this thread is making me self-conscious. I need to scan through my reviews to know whether i have over used GIFS or not.

Personally i think they make reviews a tad little bit more interesting than ones with none.

I don't mind the gifs UNLESS they are excessive. That gets annoying. When a review is entirely gifs that's just too much, hurts my eyes. It may even give me a headache.

Otherwise, I think they add to the reviews and express certain emotions or views on a book that are harder to express without them. And they add comedic relief. I love reviewers who are funny. :D

LOL...I can't believe this thread has gone for five pages. I've been on GR for a long while, and until I read this thread had no idea that use of GIF's was an issue. I've never used them, and typically I disregard things that don't interest me...i.e. Twilight.

If someone is over-using GIF's and you feel it invalidates their review or opinion, block them. That said, why waste valuable energy being frustrated by someone else. ummm time that could be spent reading the next great book?

There should be a switch to shut off the gifs. I find them distracting, and I skip any review with gifs.

Can't we just be happy that many of the younger generation are enjoying reading, to some degree? So there are GIFs. Can they be annoying? Sure. Scroll down...move on. I, for one, think it is great when people enjoy reading enough to feel the need for expression, regardless of the form it takes...
