It's not to late to sign up.
I did say that if there was interest, I can provide an excel template for folks. I will get this done over the weekend. If you can send me a private message with your e-mail.
Or if someone knows how to attach a file with HTML, I can put it in a post.

@Diane, I think that I will stick with simpler rules and not mimic Monopoly exactly :-D Simpler to keep track of :-D
one more question, and i am asking here, as an fyi for all of us...do historical non fiction titles count?...i have a couple i am about to jump into as soon as they roll up on the wait list at my digital e-library...
You do not get the historical fiction bonus for non-fiction titles. You can read them (or any genre) to accumulate book-bucks.
Abdication. Finished it early (3:00 a.m) this morning. I'd rate it a 4. It had 342 pages. How exactly do we go about adding these points to the game? Is there a "board" or do we use the example you place in the rules. I rolled a 10 so I guess I am just visiting at jail, which is better than being in it.
@Linda --
If you go to the Deposits and Turns thread, you will se the example of how to log your posts. I will be creating game boards for folks tonight, but all of your "turns" and reporting books will be in the other thread.

The rent rules for the railroads and utilities have been changed. You get 50 BB for each railroad or utility that you own as rent when you land on one that you own.
Clarifying a rule: If you miss a day, you do not get to make it up by taking two turns in one day.
I have created a game board for each person. It shows your current space and BB balance. When you buy a property, it will tell you how much rent you get to collect (based on the rules outlined).
I can send people copies of the spreadsheet that I use to track if that would be useful to you. I will mail them over the weekend. If you want one, please PM your e-mail address because I haven't figured out how to attach a file in a post --- although I've seen it done.

Hope I'm not too late to join in. I'm very new to Goodreads so please bear with me whilst I get use to the format :-)

JoLene, have you tried google docs? I think you can attach the spread sheet and open it so that people can save it to their own computers.
On the Game Board. You have me as Post 9. When I went to post 9 you call it Ashley, but that is my board. SO you are actually missing Ashley's game board
Another rule change.
As Sue reminded me, we also need to account for properties when doing the scoreboard. Each property will be worth the amount that you collect in rent.
Exceptions: Utilities and RR will be 50 BB a piece.

Okay! Just a few quick questions. Having great fun with the challenge, by the way!1. I'm currently reading the horror novel The Haunting of Hill House by Shirley Jackson. It's set in 1956...ish. It isn't really a fantasy, but is it too close to fantasy to net the historical fiction bonus?
2. Say I land on Tara Road. Do I have to start the Tara Road book while on that spot, or could I read it at a later time for the bonus since I'd landed on it at one point?
JoLene - I may be a little confused. If you land on Jail, just visiting, is that a bonus task? It looks like its a free space from the descriptions you've given (which are wonderful!), but the "board" sort of indicates a bonus task. If it's just visiting, I think I'm good. If I need to do a bonus task, I may need to edit my post for Oct 3rd, since I deposited a couple of books!
Thanks
@emily, if everything in the book could happen in reality, then you can get the bonus.....but if there are really poltergeists or ghosts or any type of fantastical creature, than you can not claim it.
You may read the Tara Road anytime, you don't even have to land on it before reading it.
@Cheryl, you are right, visiting jail doesn't entail a bonus task. I will make clearer on the board.

Yes, you get 50 BB as a bonus.
You need to declare the book as HF, meaning that I will not award you the points if you didn't mark it. I do verify that it is HF though.

Sorry, it does not. The title must contain a typical name for a street (Avenue, Boulevard, Drive, Street).
From reading the description it does not seem that "ghost walk" is referring to an actual street name.

Post 6 of the Rules/Game Boards thread, I have also posted a link to a GoogleDoc spreasheet and instructions. You can use this spreadsheet to simulate turns --- it does a lot of the calculating for you.
NOTE -- I am not an expert in spreadsheet, but I have tested it by running through everyone's turns (on the excel version).

Hi JoLene, I'm very happy that my current score is 1140BB (participant board post #28) but I'm not sure how you got to 1140BB? I thought I had 570BB? I've missed something somewhere?Current Location: 1) GO
BB Balance: 570 BB
Properties - Owned: 2, Value: 170 BB
Current Score: 1140 BB
As of: 5-Oct: 8:30 pm through Post 123
Ooops -- I have an error in the timing of the formulas in my spreadsheet. I think that everyone's is off.

Diane -- you are correct, I thought the events were more just about the war.

Quick question about Jail: If you land in jail and choose to do a bonus task, are you stuck in jail until you complete the bonus task, or do you declare your task and continue your turn the next day?
I have a question, when you land on a property, are you required to read the book that property is from or can you just read your next book. So if I land on Bluestone Road, do I have to read the book that reference comes from?
No, you can read any book to get book bucks. If you want to get the board bonus--- meaning reading a book from which the streets are named, you can do that at anytime. You don't specifically have to land on a space to claim the bonus. Example, you can read Tara Road anytime and get the 200 bb bonus.
@cassiev, from the GR description, it does not sound like it qualifies. It sounds like a lot of the book is set on a boat.
JoLene, I apologize in advance if someone has already asked you this! When you land on an "opportunity" space, if you chose to do the Bonus Task, do you have to finish reading the book before you can take another turn?
JoLene wrote: "@cassiev, from the GR description, it does not sound like it qualifies. It sounds like a lot of the book is set on a boat."Thanks, I'll keep looking!
FYI....I am travelling until Sunday. I should be able to check GR everyday, but if you have an urgent questio, please PM me :-D
I understand if you land on a task that requires a bonus and you can still take turns but not make deposits, does that mean book deposits only? Can I still collect for passing GO and buy properties or collect rent? Thanks.
If I am reading the rules correctly, I take it to mean we can only claim a literary board bonus once in the game? I can't just read all the Harry Potter books and keep claiming 200 points, right?
You can claim the literary bonus only once per space. This means that you can read 2Harry Potter books because there are 2 spaces, but only one for any of the others series.
The Railroads and Utilities are not included in the Literary Places list in the rules thread - is that just an oversight? (e.g. Harry Potter is associated with one "street" space (Privet Drive) and one railroad (Hogwarts Express)) I'm intending to read "Water for Elephants" soon, and at first had been thinking that I could get a bonus for it, and then thought "no, I can't" bc it's not on the list... but, maybe I can, after all? And then a related question - If a book is on the Literary Places list and it's an HF book too, then may one claim both the 200BB bonus for a Literary Place board space title, and the 50BB for HF? Or, just one bonus per book read? Thanks, JoLene, for all your work involved in keeping the game going!
Yes, you can have multiple bonuses per book.
Hum...I thought the RR and utilities were on the list ..... Yes, you can use those as well.
OK -- the formulas that I was using triggered off the color so then the RR and utilities didn't show up. They are there now.

Thank you!
I am reading (but havent' finished) The Last Letter from Your Lover. Will it count as historical fiction when I do finish it? Much of the book the takes place in 1960 but the rest in 2003. However, the 2003 part relates directly to what happened in 1960.
