message 1: by Matt (new)

Matt (notdarkyet) joined the group a little under a week ago, i believe. actually, it was probably just a couple of days, to be honest, but they've been fairly long days. i've had two hours sleep, which is probably why i'm making this thread this afternoon. a sounder-minded version of me would want to be a little bit more sure of my ability to keep up the pace once i started. but i'm not dwelling on it at the moment.

i'm an underachiever, so i'm going to set my mark at 200 words a day. i'm in the middle of writing something that already exceeds this limit, but lest i fail and be expelled from the group, it's safer to go with the 200. (and no, i don't typically write like ee cummings, i'm just too exhausted for proper capitalization and some grammar.)

Matt (notdarkyet) Sunday, February 8th: 284 words.
Writing: Some bullshit short about grocery shopping, just to get the ball rolling. Exhaustion cut me short.

Welcome to the fold, Matt :)

Yes! You beat your goal!

message 5: by Matt (new)

Matt (notdarkyet) More like I made my goal a plateau that I had already surpassed when I got to thinking: "What should my goal be?" I'm cheap like that.

In any event, thank you for the welcome. I appreciate it.

*Places a plate of brownies on Matt's desk, just in case he gets hungry later on*

Matt (notdarkyet) Thanks. Sooner or later I'm going to need all the encouragement I can get.

Matt Wrote: what do we do around here?

We write, eat, dance, and read amazing stories.

Networking is very important, and we do a lot of that...But, mostly, we write :)

It seems like there's a good deal of support around here. I'm pretty sure I'm going to be needy at some point or another. I sometimes have very little motivation.

Rachel wrote: "Is that all in one story? I'm intrigued"

No lolz I haven't been able to stick with one story just yet. That'd be a little strange, I guess.

Hey Matt
If you are looking for inspirational muses...this group is overflowing with them.

Rather like the Borg in that aspect, we are the collective...and resistance to inspiration is, after all, futile.

message 21: by Matt (new)

Matt (notdarkyet) That was a fluke, and it's probably the shittiest stuff to date.

message 22: by Matt (new)

Matt (notdarkyet) Friday, February 13: 208 D;
Writing: Thing-inspired paranoia, trading galley, the antithesis to The Terror

This is getting difficult. I wake up for work, I get home at around 10, and then I don't have much time to write. It's brutal.

message 23: by Rachel (new)

Rachel I hear ya Matt, I work 3-11:30 and it's tough to get up so i can squeeze in some writing before work. Sometimes i write when i get home but i'm easily distracted.

Matt, one word for you...Lunch :]

Who needs to eat when they can have "food for thought" instead :)

Keep up the great work. Remember, if you can write one page a day, but the end of a year, you will have written a novel.

Happy Valentine's Day

message 25: by Matt (new)

Matt (notdarkyet) Yeah, I'm working 12-10 these days, usually, with only a 30 minute lunch break. It's a bitch, in a totally non-misogynistic way.

I'm trying to keep it up. A week will be an achievement for me. Thanks for the encouragement.

Exeunt.

Oh poo,

Just shorten your word count, do not exit stage left. How about writing 100 words on the weekend? Or...maybe 25 words a day.

We are here for you :)

message 29: by Rachel (new)

Rachel yeah, mark, don't give up. just adjust your goal to fit your life
