Would "Passover" make a good plot for a movie?

Stephen Welch Schonfield's book, I'd always believed, is the quintessential "religious conspiracy" story, predating Dan Brown and all his ilk. Better yet, I think it would make for a great drama on the screen -- perhaps IFC, if not Hollywood studio ... but why not?

Wondering if anyone else had a similar impression ...
