Katie~J | 12 comments Hay all. I was just wondering if there are plans for the Serial Reading Challenge? Is there going to be a new version for 2013? Or a new 2013 thread started? If not, I will give this one ago, it looks like great fun :) I've seen afew people comment that they are planning on starting again on 1st Jan 13.

Hi Bookchaser!

The RRRC Books I Read For A Challenge has been updated for 2013.

If anyone would like to join that challenge, you can find it towards the top of the group's home page :)

Hey everyone - we had to delete the old 2012 challenge because it was leaving all the old totals (and perhaps no longer participating members) in the chalenge.

The new challenge for 2013 has been posted with the book monster as it's mascot :)

MountainKat | 31598 comments Anybody else having a hard time getting it to recognize your shelf for the challenge? It keeps saying I didn't enter the shelf name.

Jane (PS) | 24334 comments MountainKat wrote: "Anybody else having a hard time getting it to recognize your shelf for the challenge? It keeps saying I didn't enter the shelf name."

I had a bit of trouble - and then I just copied the shelf name as it appeared (including the hyphens) and it worked...

message 113: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31598 comments Cool Jane, thanks! I'll give that a try.

Mine did that too. But it eventually recognized the shelf. It just took a while so I had to have that horrible thing called patience ;)

Makenzie (makenziefay) | 496 comments MountainKat wrote: "Anybody else having a hard time getting it to recognize your shelf for the challenge? It keeps saying I didn't enter the shelf name."

I actually typed the name in the challenge first, then went and created the shelf and had no problems,.

MountainKat | 31598 comments Got it working! Phew! Because you know, I don't want to miss out on challenges... =)

message 118: by Alexis (new)

Alexis (LexaReads) | 375 comments I was wondering if anyone would be willing to take over the read-the-month and read-the-season challenges. I'm student teaching currently, and really have no time to be on goodreads. If no one volunteers I can continue to post them. I just feel bad because I haven't had time to congratulate people on finishing or anything.

message 119: by MountainKat, Moderator (new)

MountainKat | 31598 comments What all is involved Lexa? Would it be for the rest of the year or just for some period of time?

message 120: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Lexa,

Thanks for letting us know. I remember student teaching and that entire period of time was a blur. An exhausting, time consuming blur. But it was also a great learning experience. Good luck with it!

Maybe MK would like to take it over? No pressure, LOL!

Right, no pressure.... I might be able to help, just need to know what is involved. I don't even do those challenges!

Thanks Ty, I will let you know. Kat may be taking over. You would need to start the post each month/season and cheer on and congratulate the finishers.

Hi Ty, if you would like to do the seasons I can do the monthly! I was telling Fran that I think the months fit my attention span better. LOL! =P

message 129: by Zara's Retreat (new)

Zara's Retreat | 932 comments I don't know if it's too early to put my hand up for this but I would be interested in being a host for the PIFM challenge next year (2014) sometime. I want to try this challenge a bit more to see how the challenge is worked out etc. which I'm still trying to fathom. I also need to know how to work out how to do the rules.

Thanks

message 130: by Fran, Moderator (new)

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Zara!

Thanks for your interest! I will be taking volunteers for the 2014 PIFM at the end of the summer.

You get to make your own rules for the month you are hosting. There needs to be 8 books recommended to each participant. You can have 4 categories for your month, with 2 recs for each, or 8 categories with 1 rec each. The rules/categories are just a fun way for the participants to choose books for someone else to read. It makes it more interesting that just choosing a few random books off their tbr or yours. If you host a month next year, we will help you with ideas, structure of the challenge, anything you need :)

I will keep you and Zara on a volunteer list for 2014. You can host a Monthly Challenge or a PIFM.

Thanks Fran. I prefer the PIFM challenge as well - nothing like jumping in the deep end. LOL.

Edit:
Hi again Fran. If no-one has already put their hand up for the January 2014 PIFM challenge I'd be really happy to do that. Everything is new and exciting at the beginning of the year. Perfect time for a newby to 'run' a PIFM challenge. lol

Now that I've been roped into hosting a monthly challenge, what am I supposed to do?

1. Create draft of challenge and send to a Mod no later than the 20th of the month.

Fran | 12278 comments Hi Tiff!

We are booked through the end of the year for the Monthly Challenges. I was just updating the rules/tips for hosting. But thanks so much!

You are on the list for 2014. As soon as I open up the new hosting list in August you will definitely get a spot!

Are you interested in hosting another challenge before then? I can check with Dee and Jane and see what's coming up in the next few months.
