Well, I got several books on Monday, all but one were for other people. The one I got and will read for this challenge is Halloweenland by Al Sarrantonio Halloweenland by Al Sarrantonio. So appropriate for the month also.

I'm glad to know I was not the only one who had shelf angst.

message 53: by Katie (new)

Katie | 3 comments The most recent book added to my "to-read" shelf that I can get my hands on is The Squire's Tale (The Squire's Tales, #1) by Gerald Morris . Not a new book, but looks cute.

Beatrix Carino (xirtaeb) | 5 comments I will be reading bitterblue by kristen cashore first. Next on the list is the angels game by carlo ruiz zafon, the cario diary by Chattam, Maxim and the smile by Napoli, Donna Jo

Sandy | 14 comments I will be reading I Declare 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life by Joel Osteen. I Declare Proclaiming the Promises of God Over Your Life by Joel Osteen

╟ ♫ Tima ♪ ╣ ♥ (tsunanisaurus) Well, I finished The Almost Moon and I Am Nujood, Age 10 and Divorced today. Next up is a book picked for me from a fellow group member:

Eat, Pray, Love by Elizabeth Gilbert

Which, quite honestly, I haven't had much desire to read. This will give me the chance to stop making excuses and just get it over with =)

message 60: by Lamilla (new)

Lamilla My to-read shelf is updating too fast for me to keep up. I've started to read Club Dead (Sookie Stackhouse, #3) by Charlaine Harris soon after I added it to my to-read shelf, guess that counts.

message 61: by Vicki (new)

Vicki (goodreadscomboobooper49) | 63 comments I started Hush, Hush (Hush, Hush, #1) by Becca Fitzpatrick today. It grabbed my attention right away!

message 62: by [deleted user] (new)

Tiffani,

I resisted Eat, Pray, Love for a long time, but gave in when one of my book clubs read it. I very much enjoyed the "Eat" part, in Italy, but didn't care much for the rest of it.

message 63: by Deanna (new)

Deanna | 2 comments I will be reading, A Good Man is Good to Find by Flannery O'Conner.

Tina, so far (I'm still in the "Eat" section) I'm liking her narration voice more than I expected to but I'm still not hooked in yet. We'll see, I will keep an open mind about it!

message 65: by Claire-Jane (new)

Claire-Jane Finished with Blackbirds- a cracking read. Now onto the home stretch of this years reading challenge with another trip back in time in the shape of The Falcons of Fire and Ice by Karen Maitland . I'm a huge fan of Karen Maitland so I'm really looking forward to this one . . .

Sandy | 14 comments Sandy wrote: "I will be reading I Declare 31 Promises to Speak Over Your Life by Joel Osteen. I Declare Proclaiming the Promises of God Over Your Life by Joel Osteen"

This was a very quick read. The reader is supposed to read one of the 31 promises each day. However I prefer to read the entire book through and then re-read it.
I found it to be another good book from Joel with great words of wisdom, although pretty short and to the point.

message 67: by Janet (new)

Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 101 comments Picked up The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton . It is the latest book on my to read list. I will start it as soon as I finish Anne of Green Gables by L.M. Montgomery

message 68: by Claire-Jane (new)

Claire-Jane Finished The Falcons of Fire and Ice - not quite as strong a story as the other two books I've read by this author but enjoyable none the less, the 500 pages flew by.

Moved onto Jack Glass by Adam Roberts - the latest by Adam Roberts, totally stunning cover art and so far a very interesting story.

message 69: by Mariah (last edited Oct 08, 2012 12:33PM) (new)

How are you ..."

A five star read. Anne can stay so positive after an early childhood that left so much to be desired. Also the descriptions of the natural world and the changing of the seasons in Prince Edward Island make vibrant and stunning mental pictures.

message 72: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I'm reading The Absent One (Department Q, #2) by Jussi Adler-Olsen and The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien .

message 73: by Claire-Jane (last edited Oct 14, 2012 01:01AM) (new)

Claire-Jane Jack Glass had its moments, mostly in the first of the three interconnected tales, it was just a shame that they all came at the start and the other 2 were a bit of a damp squib.

So now I'm onto Retribution Falls (Tales of the Ketty Jay, #1) by Chris Wooding , air ships and pirates a happy Claire do make.

message 74: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) yesterday I finished Johnny Doesnt Drink Champagne by Cody Young AND Poirot and the Regatta Mystery by Agatha Christie. Now, Im going back and trying my hand at Bel Canto again. I cant get into the book.

message 75: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) Next im gonna read Undying by Vincent Marcy and then a pick it for me book after that. I wanna start my halloween books.

message 76: by LynnB (new)

LynnB I read The Roots of the Olive Tree by Courtney Miller Santo which I forgot to post when I started. It wasn't worth the read, though. So never mind. :)

message 77: by Lorna (new)

Lorna I'm finishing The Rise of Nine and will start my latest to-read, Cutting for Stone.

message 78: by Emily (new)

Emily (TheNerdyBookz) | 4 comments I will be reading Delirium by Lauren Oliver
Because I am so new to good reads I did newest on my actual book self because I am just still get my shelves together.

message 79: by Claire-Jane (new)

Claire-Jane Finished with Retribution Falls - it was ok, flagged a little in places and I don't think I will be investigating anymore of the series.

Now onto The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethan England by Ian Mortimer as I enjoyed the Medieval one and seem to have been on a bit of a Tudor trip these past couple of months.

message 80: by Hilmi (new)

message 81: by Alison (new)

Alison G. (agriff22) i am reading The War of the Worlds from the pick it for me feature. i am trying to read sci-fi halloween books

message 82: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) Finished Halloweenland by Al Sarrantonio Halloweenland by Al Sarrantonio. Gave it 2 stars. Guess Horror is not my cup of tea.

The devil impregnates a woman using her husband who is in-between life and death. The resulting baby disappears. The detective hero spends 5 years hunting for the little girl who spells doom for all living things. The climax comes at Halloween in an amusement park called Halloweenland. I was not impressed with this tale or the ‘hero’ who spends most of his time in a bottle.

message 83: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) The other Halloween related title I just got through my trading sites is Trick or Treat Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery #3) by Leslie Meier Trick or Treat Murder by Leslie Meier, so I will read that next.

message 84: by Shomeret (new)

Shomeret | 69 comments I'm reading about books banned in libraries which I think is really creepy. The book is True Stories of Censorship Battles in America's Libraries

message 85: by Claire-Jane (new)

Claire-Jane After The Time Traveller's Guide to Elizabethan Englandwhich was very good.

I'm back into the fictional world with Telegraph Avenue by Michael Chabon - as an ex record store employee I have high hopes . . .

message 86: by Claire-Jane (new)

Claire-Jane AHHHHHHHHHH - will not be finishing Telegraph Avenue- it's terrible, over written & underwhelming. I'm on page 48 and I will not and can not read anymore. Unless I stop now I'll wade through about 50 or so more pages and then being stubborn and by the merits of having reached triple figures page wise I will carry on till the bitter end then give it 1 star. So I'm going to listen to Nick Hornby who said if you're reading a bad book then just stop ! It will join the list of books I just couldn't finish this year which numbers 3 !

So I'm onto a very calm, quiet & restrained bit of apocalypse in the shape of On the Beach by Nevil Shute . Loved the film and have wanted to read the book for years.

message 87: by Linda C (new)

Linda C (libladynylindac) Finished Trick or Treat Murder (A Lucy Stone Mystery #3) by Leslie Meier Trick or Treat Murder - Leslie Meier (4 stars).

Just got a vampire collection connected to Christmas, Holiday With A Vampire II A Christmas Kiss\The Vampire Who Stole Christmas (Harlequin Nocturne, #54) by Merline Lovelace Holiday with a Vampire - Merline Lovelace & Lori Devoti, so that will be next. Just a little off season.

Reading a banned or challenged book would be a great theme!

message 89: by Janet (new)

Janet (goodreadscomjanetj) | 101 comments Just finished The House of Mirth The House of Mirth by Edith Wharton . It is a delicious satire of The Golden Age in America that existed in the last part of the 19th century and the first few years of the 20th century. Really showed the shallowness of the upper crust of that time. I give it a 5 star rating due to the way Wharton could make Lily be a grasping, conniving socialite but gradually show her inner thoughts so that by the tragic end you really felt deep sympathy for her.

I really enjoyed that one, too. I think it was a 4-star for me. If it hadn't been for one of my book groups, I don't know that I would have read it otherwise, but was glad I did.

Jennifer Grissman | 2 comments i am reading miss peregine's home for peculiar children. i am about halfway through and peculiar is a good word for it. i do enjoy the photos

message 92: by Ailyne (new)

Ailyne Right now I am reading Crush by Nicole Williams....it came highly recommended so I'm excited ...I am halfway though Take this Regret...but I'm not really liking it all that much...so I'm just going to put it aside and read my other ones.

message 93: by Richa (new)

Richa (saberwynter) | 1 comments Right now I'm reading Seduction and Snacks (Chocolate Lovers, #1) by Tara Sivec .It's a dare given to me by my friend that I won't be able to read more than the first 20 pages! So let's see.... ;)

message 94: by Chelsi (last edited Oct 20, 2012 01:29PM) (new)

Chelsi | 12 comments Finished Crossed (Matched, #2) by Ally Condie . It wasn't as good as the first in the trilogy but still enjoyable.

message 95: by Shomeret (new)

Shomeret | 69 comments I'm reading As The Crow Fliesby Craig Johnson, #8 in the Walt Longmire series. This is the third book I've read in that series. This one deals with a Cheyenne woman who fell to her death from a cliff.

message 96: by Jenny (new)

Jenny (jeoblivion) Reading 1Q84 (and truth be told is wasn't anywhere near the more recent entries on my to-read list, but it was the only one I already had at home) and I am really exited to finally get started. Always amazed about how distinct Murakami writes or constructs stories, you'd know it was a Murakami even without being told.

message 97: by Claire-Jane (last edited Oct 21, 2012 12:22PM) (new)

Claire-Jane Finished with On the Beach- it was very good and really quite moving towards the end. The book came across in places almost like someone had dropped an atom bomb in the middle of a Noel Coward play. Some real differences from the film adaptation which always makes for an interesting read.

Nearly finished The Boy Who Could See Demons by Carolyn Jess-Cooke - a very quick & easy read and so far not quite as good as I was hoping.

message 98: by Kerry (last edited Oct 21, 2012 08:03AM) (new)

Kerry (euphemy) | 27 comments This was my recent addition for my 'to read' shelf. This is what I am going to read since there are only 10 days left in October. I hope I am doing this correctly.A Short History of the World

message 99: by Claire-Jane (new)

Claire-Jane Onto the last of my stack of library books . . . Nothing Daunted The Unexpected Education of Two Society Girls in the West by Dorothy Wickenden so far a very interesting read.

message 100: by Heidi (new)

Heidi (butbooksarebetter) Finished Der Hundertjährige, der aus dem Fenster stieg und verschwand by Jonas Jonasson, which was a quirky, fun read. I really enjoyed it, had a good laugh and it made a nice change from my murder / mystery pile ... I think I needed a bit of a break. Has anyone read it?
