do you have to download the Audi book to your kindle to do this, I would like to try it but don't want to use the space up since audible are a lot bigger than the mobi file.

message 52: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I think it's an extra feature u have to purchase but since I had the audible on my Kindle, I just found the book first and then when I tapped on it it had the option there already. I'm assuming u have to have both downloaded like I did.

I have the audible and ebook for cannibal corpse by tim curran but I don't want to send the audible to my kindle because there isn't much room left on it and I'm sure it is a large file. I might put them both on my wife's kindle to mess with that and delete them when I am done.

looks like I'm getting a paperwhite for my birthday next monday, I can't wait to check it out. my wife bought it for me and she has decided to leave the box sitting on the kitchen table and not let me open it until my birthday just to drive me crazy.

message 55: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'd prob open it right then and there!

message 56: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments That's fun, my friend wanted to do that with a birthday gift he got me one year and leave it out so when i came over i had to just look at it. Though i'm a patient person and also kind of forgot about it after the first day or so.

I've heard a lot of good stuff about the Paperwhite so I hope you end up liking it too.

Also Justin, can you message me your email again?

Will do matt. Yea I am going nuts looking at the box, it is still in the box it shipped it. hopefully I get up and she gives it to me early enough to plug in and get a full first charge before work.

the only thing im worried about not liking is the touch screen, I work in material handling and my hands get dirty.

message 59: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments ah i see, that could be a problem then.

the area I'm in now isn't to bad especially the two days a week I'm on a fork truck so it should be ok. if I get bumped back to body shop I might just use the new one at home and take my kindle keyboard to work. wherever I am at I will figure something out.

I finally got the paperwhite last night so I can charge it for work today, I started reading cannibal fat camp on it last night and so far I like it. I like that I can view the titles or covers and also see my cloud titles. she also got me the leather cover and I really like that also.

I also got the one month free trial of amazon prime with it and borrowed Hag Night with it.

thanks Kate. I have to go to work but I'm going to have a good morning.

message 65: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Happy Birthday!! Looks like ur enjoying your paper white:) prime looks awesome. I may try that next year. Let me know if its worth it.

message 66: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
if you buy a lot of stuff on amazon the free two day shipping might be worth it but as far as borrowing books go's you can only borrow one per month and its $70 per year.

message 67: by Robert Krone (new)

Robert Krone | 157 comments Prime is definitely worth it if you order things from Amazon. Free 2 day UPS shipping (Which has actually been next business day for me a couple times, and they ship out on Saturdays) is great, plus you can watch a lot of stuff free with it as well. Not as much included free as you get with Netflix instant, but there is no monthly fee with Amazon.

Ok I read on the paperwhite for a few hours last night, here are the pros and cons for me

I like the size and feel of it in my hand (that's with the leather case) but I'm used to holding below the page turn buttons with my thumb turning the page on the side and I don't like reaching my thumb to the screen to turn the page. I also don't like that I can't turn forward or backwoods with either hand since the left side of the screen flips back and the right side flips forward. other than page turns I like the touch screen much more than I thought I would. I like that I can view covers or a list, especially with the cloud. there are so many freebies that I bought and don't remember what they are even when I read the title so the cover view is awesome. I love the light and how clear the screen is but I'm not sure how much it will effect the battery yet, the light in my kindle keyboard leather case goes through the battery quickly and I hope this don't drain it as bad as that does. I like the feel of the screen, it has kind of a paper texture to it. I hadn't played with the on screen keyboard yet but I don't think I will mind it to much. I hate the special deals already but hopefully I get used to them and don't notice them as much, if not I will just pay to have them removed. I think that's it for now

all in all I am very happy with it.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 267 comments I've been slacking big time on Goodreads activity and reading in general lately - still trying to get my groove back but hey - a belated happy bday and congrats on the new toy.

message 71: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
thanks, one other major plus that I can report after having it for awhile now is that it is much easier to organize since you can view all titles by author. making folders is way easier.

message 72: by Steve (new)

Steve Vernon (stevevernon) | 2 comments I opted for a Kobo - partly because I actually SELL a lot more of my own e-books on Kobo rather than Kindle; partly because the Kobo was a little more convenient to purchase up here in Halifax - but primarily because I'm cheap.

The Kobo Mini was offered last year for $49.95, thirty bucks off of it's usual price. It's a rinky-tink bargain-basement, no-bells-no-whistles e-reader - but it works just fine for me.

I do still want a Kindle eventually - just because a lot of books that I'd like and a lot of writers that I love to follow are only available through Kindle - but that may change. Kobo is (in my opinion) is definitely a company to watch.

Kindle is still freaking king though - and that's king like in Stephen King. The company is freaking huge!

Addy | 1944 comments Is there any way to change location to time it will take to read book? Its at the corner of my kindle fire. Some reason it switched to location and id rather see how much time I have left to complete a book.

message 74: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I'm not sure, I like that time left feature on my paperwhite to. mine shows location and time though.

just touch it to change from location, time left in chapter and time left in book.

Addy | 1944 comments Ah ok. Thanks Eleven! I haven't checked this thread in a while.

Would anyone be interested in buying a nook tablet with cover from me? Please let me know or send me a pm.

I am happy with the two kindles I have now but if the price was right i would always buy another especially since I have never used a nook and even though I would never give up my kindle I am curious about them. which one is it, and how much do you want?

message 79: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'd want $100 for it plus shipping. Its practically brand new and that includes a really nice cover and an SD card that allows u to have android functions. I'm saving up for a kindle fire since the one I'm using is my parents.

message 80: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Hey all!! I'm selling my nook simple if anyone is interested. I've never even used it so its practically brand new.

Also, does anyone know if there is a way to hide your books?

message 81: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I meant hide books on kindle fire?

message 82: by Matt (new)

Matt McRoberts (nemesis0) | 404 comments Hmm hide? You can remove them from the Kindle and they'll still be listed on the "Cloud" but not listed on the device. In the books section on the Kindle Fire there is a "Cloud" and "Device" tab (well mine does, so i'm just assuming the newer ones do too).

message 83: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Oh ok. Thanks Matt! I'm just worried that family members might see some of my gruesome book covers as my son plays my kindle quite a bit. I think I can put a password on kindle free time. I'll mess around with it.

message 84: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I deleted a bunch of books with violent or sexually explicit covers so my girls wouldn't see them when we put the Amazon app on the ipad. Even in the cloud they could just click on cloud and see them. Eventually I unregister the Amazon account and made a new account in my wife's name for kids books only. That won't work for you though since it is your kindle, I don't use the ipad for reading.

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 267 comments Amazon just released their update adding an icon to the Kindle Paperwhite so the user can interact with Goodreads. It only works on the Kindle released a couple months ago. Not the first generation.

I'm a little pissed about that last part. I wanted to see how this Amazon/Goodreads collaboration works itself out. I don't think it works on the Fire family either but I'm not sure.

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
Well, they do need to give us reasons to buy the new kindles even if there is nothing wrong with the ones we already have right? that does sound cool, hopefully it works better than the android app does.

message 87: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments I'm getting the paper white. Yay! My fire seems to always be occupied and my phone I can only stand it for so long, so I thought why not? I like that its small. Tired of carrying my fire around. Also like the battery life. I hate charging my fire every couple of hours. I'm excited!

message 90: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Just got my paperwhite and I love it! The goodreads icon is cool, but I dint think it lets you update or write a review. You can't look at your groups either. Wish it would have been more like the app but other than that, I'm impressed:)

message 91: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I don't have the goodreads thing on mine. Wish they could just do a software update for it or something but I guess they need the newer models to have new features so we will buy more right? I would like if we could highlight and send quotes to goodreads directly from the kindle. That would be cool.

message 92: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Yeah I think I can highlight and send to Facebook. I really like that I can make collections. Been spending most of my time doing that.

message 93: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Wait, I think it does let me share it on GR. That's cool. I'm gonna try it out.

message 94: by Justin (new)

Justin (justineaton) | 3492 comments Mod
I like highlighting to my collection and I can share on Facebook but I rarely do. All I really want to do is share to goodreads.

message 95: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Does anyone know if you can access email through experimental browser on paper white?

message 96: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 267 comments I've checked my Gmail with the paperwhite but it moves pretty slow. Its been useful though when I'm in a restaurant or something and want to make a quick check with their free wifi.

message 97: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Hmm. I can't seem to check my hotmail. Maybe its only Gmail then? I'm so confused. Thanks eleven!

message 98: by 11811 (Eleven) (new)

11811 (Eleven) (11811) | 267 comments It could be a Hotmail thing; I'm not sure. I just know it worked with Gmail despite the imperfect formatting. It's the last way I would ever choose to check my email because its so slow and awkward but if its all I have to connect, I try to make use of it.

Do you have the new Paperwhite? I have the 1st generation from last year. I'm not sure if that would make a difference. I don't have that new Goodreads icon on mine so it could be completely different software for all I know.

message 99: by Addy (new)

Addy | 1944 comments Yes I have the new one with Goodreads icon. I love it! All the features are great. Its just this experimental browser...i don't get it. Can't check email but everything else seems to be game.

So I read that Amazon is working on an update for the older kindle whites so they will have it as well. I hope that's true.
