Arlene Hayes I gave up on the book at p. 100. I thought it was really bad. I watched the movie because I'm a fan of Hillary Swank, and I enjoyed it very much. So for me, the film was way better than the book.

message 152: by Naura (new) - rated it 5 stars

Naura I DID!!!

The book's WAY better than the movie but I must say, compared to other book-adapted movies, this was a decent one :)

message 153: by Sakshi (new) - rated it 3 stars

Sakshi Agarwal Me...
After reading the book, movie is a disappointment

message 154: by Noor (new)

Noor Fedala i cried when rate the book and when i saw the movie. even that they are many changes but i loved them both

message 155: by Bruna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Bruna Rocha I usually read the book first, but in this case I watched the movie then read the book. The movie is so different from the book that at some points I felt like it was another story being told. That said, I did enjoy the movie, I thought it was a good movie, nothing more, nothing less.
The book, however, in my opinion was amazing, one of my favorites for sure. :)

🧡Peachy Quinn🍊 Sadly, the book and the movie are almost entirely different. But, the message and the whole point of the story are the same. Personally, I prefer the book. Although, both the movie and the book made me cry. The movie was good too. They had to cut out a lot of stuff because the book has a lot of details.

message 157: by Maddie (new) - rated it 5 stars

Maddie I watched the movie before reading the book and thought it was amazing. Actually I'm pretty sure I sure the movie a few times before reading the book but anyway.

I do agree that the movie didn't follow the books as much as I usually like films too but I still liked it.

The book was so much more amazing though simply because of the fact that in a book you're able to have that much more detail and the reader has the chance to picture it how they want. I pretty much always think the books better than the movie though so yeah.

So basically both were amazing and I would recommend both to anyone because everyone has to experience the awesomeness that is P.S. I Love You!

message 158: by Hina (new) - rated it 3 stars

Hina Shakeel I read the book & really liked it. I don't really say that for the movie,,,it ok-ok !

message 159: by Hanna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Hanna Mata I have seen the movie and read the book. In my opinion they are both good, but the book is better, like most books that are made into movies are.

The reason I said both was because, they both have good qualities and aspects to them. And a movie with Gerard Butler, how could it not be a good movie ;)

message 160: by Lisa (new) - added it

Lisa I loved this book I read it twice . I hated the movie fake Irish accents are the worst thing for an Irish person to have to listen to for 2 hours yeah Gerard Butler is fine but not fine enough to enjoy that film .

Anmol Rawat Kim wrote: "The movie is one of my favorites....and I watched it before I read the book. Because I so love the movie I just hated the book for all its differences to the movie. I couldn't finish the book. ..."

same here. the book is too long and all those emotions does not make the impact that they did in the movie. But I finished it. It's nice but definitely liked the movie more.

Anmol Rawat Chanouel wrote: "Jessica wrote: "I may be one of the only ones who truly hated the book. I couldn't find ANY emotion in the writing at all; it was really disappointing because I found the movie heart-wrenching."

same here :D
I found the book to be nice but when I compare that to the movie, it's weak. The movie was heart wrenching while the book was not able to make that impact.

message 163: by Ashok (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ashok Tamang I loved the book way more than the movie. Anyway, good stuff.

message 164: by Ankita (new) - rated it 5 stars

Ankita Book was a great read and the movie was just as amazing to watch. Love the concept!!

message 165: by Anne (last edited Apr 07, 2014 04:55AM) (new) - rated it 3 stars

Anne Stone I thought the book was well written but I have to say the ending about killed me.

The movie was a given since I love Gerard Butler --however, it is nothing like the book at all.

message 166: by Ashley (new) - rated it 3 stars

Ashley Schmidt Yup. This is definitely a case where the movie is WAYYY better than the book. One of my most favorite laugh (and cry) out loud movies of all time.

message 167: by R.S. (new) - rated it 5 stars

R.S. Burnett I picked the book up a few times but could never really get into. Then when the movie came out, I confess, I mainly watched it because BG was it, but I did read the book after and though I liked the book more, I still won't turn the tv off it the movie is on.

Colleen Stitch I saw the movie first. I have to admit I liked the movie more. I liked how holly's mother was abandoned by her husband in the movie so that she could relate to holly's lost. I didn't like all the family in the book; I felt it took away from the story.

message 169: by Sruti (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sruti Raizada book is better.....

Ashley Marie I read the book and then saw the movie, liked the movie but they cut too many good characters out and changed the ending. Gerard Butler and Hilary Swank were perfect, and I liked Kathy Bates as the mother, but the book is infinitely better than the film (as is often the case).

Chester Dean I'm part of the very few that liked the movie better. The movie made me feel things the book didn't. The book kinda bored me, actually.

message 172: by Prerna (new) - rated it 4 stars

Prerna I had read the book before I watched the movie. Initially, I watched the movie in parts when it wuld be aired on T.V. and would always think that the 'other' incidents of the book are actually there, it's just that I haven't watched them. But when I finally watched the complete movie I was surprised! The book and movie are miles apart as far as the plot is concerned. It is like 'The Vampire Diaries' books and the TV shows. Only the characters are the same, rest everything is different. They've combined 2 or 3 letters by Gerry to make them into one and I feel as if they have just touched upon everything and add some things of their own.
Overall, I think the movie and book as individual pieces of work are brilliant, but when compared, the book is better. If you watch the movie without thinking of the book (easier said than done!), it is pretty good! :)

Mara Pemberton Reilly wrote: "I have just recently ordered this book because my library doesn't have it!

NO! The book is better and gives more background detail.

message 174: by Sonal (new) - rated it 4 stars

Sonal Agarwal me.. but i love the book much more than the movie. movie skips many important things.

message 175: by Tea (new) - rated it 5 stars

Tea book is so muuuuch better than movie.. they always cut out half of the book and change everything..

Mara Pemberton Lara wrote: "book is so muuuuch better than movie.. they always cut out half of the book and change everything.."

I am one of the those people loved the book, and it is one of my favorite books. I read a few years after I became a widow. I could relate to everything. Would love to see a sequel.

I would not have had a problem with the book from the American perspective, but they could have stuck more to the plot of of the book. Okay everything didn't have to be in the book, but keep the WHITE DRESS part, and the part where Gerry goes to the travel agency.

Mara

message 177: by Rini (new) - rated it 3 stars

Rini George I don't know why i sort of thought the book dragged a bit but the movie was quick. I loved the movie more than the book. The other reason for liking the movie more was because the movie had a happy ending while the book did not..

message 178: by Krishna (last edited Jun 05, 2014 10:33PM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Krishna Chaitanya P.S. I Love You happens to be my first, best and favorite novel. I totally loved the novel and wanted to watch the movie but the movie kinda disappointed me and I felt that the movie is not at least half as good as the book.

message 179: by Sandra (new) - rated it 3 stars

Sandra Simão I already read the book,I pretty enjoy it. But I don´t have really sure about the movie, I´m quite afray that the movie will ruined the essence of the book.

message 180: by Hema (new) - rated it 5 stars

Hema I absolutely loved this book. It is one of the best books I've ever read. I'm rarely one to cry over a book, but this one got me reaching my tissue box ever so often. However, I didn't like the movie at all. I didn't feel it did justice to the book. The book is way better. I would suggest not to watch the movie at all.

Natalia Honestly I saw the movie first before to read the book, because when PS: I love you wen to the cinemas in my country I don't have idea about the book. So when I read the book finally I came a big surprise because the book is so different from the movie. But I like the both, book and movie, both are funny :)

message 182: by Angela (new) - rated it 5 stars

Angela the book was fab could not put it down and loved every page.. the film was a big let down and did not stick to the book at all. my advice pick the book and forget about the film..

Bernadette Robinson Loved the book and enjoy watching the film. I always read books first, so that I've got how I interpret the book in my head before I see how a director interprets it.

I agree the film doesn't follow the book too well but I don't mind that to be honest, as most of the time the films are only adaptations anyway.

Tashonda I love both the book and the movie. I saw the movie years before I read the book (a couple months ago). The book is so great! So many details were missing in the movie but they were both great nonetheless.

message 185: by Prashant (new) - added it

Prashant I have just started reading the book and it is more different compared to the movie

Krishna,

I have felt the same way about P.S. I LOVE YOU. I read it about a year or so after it came out about 15 or so years ago. I think why it resonated with me, was because I had been a widow for a few years, and I could understand what Holly was going through. The book made you like and feel along with the family.

It took me years to get the UNABRIDGED recording of the book, because the publisher only ABRIDGED it,and that is the way you could download it from Audible.com. Publishers do not get that the reader wants the whole book, not just part of it.

As for the movie, lets just say it wasn't my cup of tea. The book is so much better. I wish that Ms. Ahern would write a sequel so that, we who love the book can find out how Holly is going after so many years.

message 187: by Bernadette (last edited Jun 26, 2014 12:58AM) (new) - rated it 5 stars

Bernadette Robinson I like the idea of a sequel to the book. It would be great to find out what has happened to her over the years. I might read the book again next year as I've got a keeper copy somewhere.

message 188: by Sristi (new) - rated it 5 stars

Sristi its a very romantic film..... and the story is just awesome.....

message 189: by Tanvi (new) - rated it 4 stars

Tanvi Juwale I have read the book and watched the movie as well and I can say the book is much better. The movie is just based on the novel yet doesn't do justice to the plot, whereas the book explains and gave me enough time to cherish every word. The movie is relatively fast paced that leaves out the subtle details that make the book so good.

If you really love reading and read this book then you will not want to see the movie. I felt the movie was not up to the mark as the book.
