Laura (questionableadvice) Does anyone else watch this show? I know it's gotten mixed reviews and I've been trying to put my finger on why I enjoy it so much. Part of it is the ambiguity of what has happened to the main character to take him back in time. Is he hallucinating? In a coma? Dead? Insane? And some of it is the "outsider's perspective" storyline, because I do enjoy watching Sam Tyler's modern beliefs clash with the contemporary 1970's culture. Also, seeing Michael Imperioli in that hideous mustache is pretty amusing. I think he's doomed to play tough guy New Yorkers for his entire career.

bsc (bsc0) | 250 comments I've not watched it but I did watch the British version which I really liked. If anyone's seen both, I'd be interested in hearing how the new one compares.

Esther (eshchory) | 555 comments I only watched the English version and enjoyed it very much. So much so I've seen most episodes twice. And am waiting for it to be repeated yet again.

Laura (questionableadvice) Does anyone know if the English version is available in the US?

Paul | 129 comments The English version was great.

Sadly, the sequel, set in the '80s, was a huge disappointment.

message 6: by Bronwyn (new)

Bronwyn (nzfriend) I watched it when it was on on Thursdays. It was alright. But when they moved it I just gave up on it. It wasn't good enough to follow it moving. (I really hate how much they move shows...)

Leslie Ann (leslieann) | 185 comments I watch and I think it is just Okay. The writing could be much better. I especially don't like the cheesy 70's action series music that's played over all the chase scenes. I think the producers should stick to 70's classic rock n roll. I wish the Brit version was available on DVD over here, but so far, it's not--at least not through Netflix.

Paul | 129 comments I've just remembered what the British sequel was called - Ashes to Ashes. Awful in comparison.

Kai (wlow) | 64 comments i think the UK version is out on DVD at the end of july

A.C | 20 comments I admit first I did not like Ashes to Ashes that much, missed Sam Tyler, but it turned out really good. Especially the last series where you know you get all the answers was nailbiting - while praying it was not the American Life on Mars ending.

Kaion (kaionvin) | 38 comments Loved the British version. (Laughed like hell at the American version, which was mostly corny and ridiculous in comparison*). I'm fairly sure it is available on DVD in the US, just not widely (but I buy everything off amazon anyway).

Ashes to Ashes wasn't too interesting at first, but had leaps of improvement in between series until it was actually pretty good in series 3.

*US fans, I just want to know if this means he wants to sleep with his sister. Does he even have a sister? The computer wants him to sleep with his sister? He wants his boss, but ideally sees her as a subordinate? He loves/wants to kill his dad?
