His actual name is James Gatz. He changed his name when he began his career at the age of seventeen. he was ashamed of his parent who were shiftless and unsuccessful farm people.
Gatsby's real name was James Gatz (page 98). He changed his name when he was seventeen "So he invented just the sort of Jay Gatsby that a seventeen year old boy would be likely to invent, and to this conception he was faithful to the end." He changed his name because he didn't like where he came from so he felt the need to change his name to make it good enough for how he was himself.
"James Gatz--that was really, or at least legally, his name.He changed His Name because he was ashamed of his real name so he just inveted one day his Jay Gatsby Name !
Gatsby's real name was James Gatz "James Gatz - that was really or at least legally, his name. he had changed it at the age of 17 and at the specific moment that witnessed the beginning of his career" and "i suppose hed had that name ready for a long time, even then. his parents we're shiftless and unsuccessful farm people his imagination had never really accepted them as his parents at all." (pg 98) i think the main reason he changed his name was because he was ashamed of his parents.
Gatsby's real name is James Gatz. "James Gatz that was really or at least legally his name." When he changed it he was only 17 years old. The reason he changed it was that he never approved of his parents. "-his imagination had never really accepted them as parents at all." pg 98 I suppose that the reason he never accepted his parents as such was because thet were unsuccessful farmers, and his was ashamed by/of them.
