My personal reactions are very conflicted, reason being that I don’t really know how to feel about the relationship between Nikki and Rook. I am very impressed with this book. I read the book before this one and I personally felt that there wasn’t enough detail. This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes reading murder mystery.

Sounds like you really enjoyed this book! The main character Skeeter reminds me of you in a way. Stating the fact that she is so tall and has curly hair. I also like the quotation you used to go along with her towering stature, it made the character seem like she had an interesting sense of humor. Overall, you make The Help sound like an excellent book. I believe I will add it on my to-read list.

Throughout the book Rachel struggles with her identity as a biracial child raised in Chicago, she doesn't always know where she fits in and others tease her because she's different and does not belong to any certain racial group. After a tragic accident involving Rachel, two other siblings and her mother, she is forced to live with her grandmother, who shows Rachel all the compassion as she would one of her own children, yet none of the patience or understanding that Rachel needs.
The girl who fell from the sky does not waste her time “crying or being tender” (10), instead she stuffs it into her “little blue bottle” this blue bottle contains hurtful comments and painful memories of Mor (her mother) and her abusive past life. Rachel believes this bottle will hold back all of the physical and emotional pain she experiences. “When something starts to feel like hurt, I put it in this imaginary bottle inside of me. It’s blue glass with a cork stopper.” (10) Little does rachel know, this bottle will not hold out forever and she will soon have to face the fearful past that her mother tried to protect her from. Rachel’s mother; Nella discovers she has made a huge mistake moving with her new husband a drinker who doesn't take his task seriously as a father. In order to protect her babies she feels the only suitable option is to “go as a family.”
Experiencing racism and hate early on by her own father made Rachel believe that her identity as half black, half white was something to be shunned but as time went on she realizes that exactly what she has been avoiding makes her who she is. “ I am Nella Floe’s daughter. Thats what makes me special - me.”(237) This is the statement I believe that finally lead her to overcome her confusion and helped her realize her bigger and brighter future that she and nobody else could write.

Gale is in love with the main character Katniss Everdeen. In the first Hunger Games Katniss goes in to the arena with another boy from her town named Peeta. At the Games Peeta tells Katniss that he loves her. And Katniss is unsure if she loves Gale, her long time friend, or Peeta, the boy who saved her life. In the end of "Mockingjay" we learn that Katniss grows up to marry Peeta. This is how I relate to Gale. I liked or had a "crush" on a girl before, then I found out that she liked someone else. Like Gale I was crushed "I don't understand, we've known each other for years. I've protected you, kept you from starving. Does all that mean nothing to you?" But of course that was a long time ago back when I was young and foolish; and like Gale I got over it. At the very end of the book when Katniss and Gale both have families of there own Gale says "I understand now why you chose Peeta over me." "Why is that?" "Becuase he was there for you when I couldn't have been. He kept you alive when I couldn't." I think this is Gale's final closure with the fact that Katniss is happiest with someone other then him.

This sounds like you Josh. Varsity All star player right here. Sounds like a great read keep us updated on what happens next.

This book is set up with chapters, short sections, it doesn’t have any flashbacks, not of lots of space between paragraphs. The author chose to write it like this so we can read it better and understand it easier.

Cupcake was an ordinary girl, but the death of her mother changed her life forever. She and her brother were taken away from their dad by their biological father who then just put them into a foster home. Cupcake is abused and worked to the bone and decides to run away. She in fact runs away multiple times and starts doing drugs and drinking at twelve years old. As her story continues she talks about the people she met, jobs she did, and places she lived. Cupcake eventually decides that he can’t live like this anymore and now she is a very successful lawyer. Her story is incredible and I felt really bad for her as I read on. In my opinion it is a truly amazing story.

This book can relate to almost everyone because at one time or another we have all experienced an internal battle against ourselves. Melanie helps the reader understand that no matter what is going on inside of us whether it is physical or emotional we can get through it. With enough will power and strength even what seem to be the biggest most difficult obstacles can be overcome.
