Sean W | 1 comments I’m currently reading Code Orange by Caroline B. Cooney and the main character is Mitty Blake. Mitty and his friends live in New York City, New York, they are in High School. Mitty does not care about school, grades or much of anything but girls and music. Mitty once said “I don’t expect to be loved for my brain, but I don’t want to be discarded for it either” (10). Mitty said this because he had sunk his way in to advanced biology to be with Olvia another character he has a crush on. It shows he good to all lengths just to impress this girl. I’m not very far in the book but so far I don’t mind it because it’s about a high school student and I can semi-relate to it. “His fingures felt a raised place in the book. Not s lump, just a thicker area. Mitty turned the pages expecting a folded chart . It was an envelope.” (10-11). I like books like this because it’s suspenseful and makes it a page turner because you’re wondering what happens next. I hope it turns into an adventure like Ms. Semen said and then I’d like the book more.

Katy P | 3 comments I’m currently reading The Princess Bride by William Goldman. The main character in Buttercup who lives on a farm in the country of Florin. “The beef-witted featherbrained rattleskulled clodpated dim-domed noodle-noggined sapheaded lunkknobbed boys.” This shows that Buttercup likes to be independent and she doesn’t care what the others think of her. She is very true to herself and doesn’t care what others think of her. My reaction so far is that buttercup sounds like a cool character. I think if she were real Buttercup and I could be really good friends.

Tiffany | 1 comments Currently in my book, "The Bluest Eye" by Toni Morrison, Claudia is a young black girl who lives on a small farm, “how, they ask us, do you expect anybody to get anything done if you all are sick?... Our illness is treated with contempt, foul Black Draught, and castor oil that blunts our minds.” (10) Claudia is expected to do as she is told, doing her chores and being proper is all she must do. If she is sick she cannot do these things, therefore her parents look down on her. So far in the book I am a little shocked by the way Claudia acts towards doll, “the other dolls, which were supposed to bring me great pleasure, succeeded in doing quite the opposite.” (20) She would destroy all of her dolls, but towards people she is as sweet as can be. I am not very fond of the book so far, but I am interested to see how Claudia reacts to the new girl that is supposed to come live in their home.

Josh R | 1 comments I am currently reading "Gym Candy" by louis Meyer. The man character is Mick Johnson. Mick is a talented football player in junior high. He has become a stand out player and was asked to suit up for his first varsity practice as a freshmen along with his all-star QB friend Drew. "Football is the toughest sport out there. Thats why I love it, it takes strength, speed, intelligence, and team work."(35) This quote was from one of micks english papers describing what he liked to do in his freetime and basiclly describes how he is a person in the book. I havent got to far yet but its just starting to get good. Im looking forward to letting you know more about what happens next.

Noah V W | 1 comments I am writing about the character Nikki Heat from the book “Heat wave” by Richard Castle. Nikki is a really devoted to her work and also to her deceased mothers murder. She works very closely with Rook. They are like an old married couple. They are always butting heads but at the end they seem to work it out. There is one line that she always she says “If it’s too late, it’s too late to hope”. She is always talking about the exact timing about finding the killer. It tells me that she is much focused and isn’t going to quit until she catches the killer.
My personal reactions are very conflicted, reason being that I don’t really know how to feel about the relationship between Nikki and Rook. I am very impressed with this book. I read the book before this one and I personally felt that there wasn’t enough detail. This is an amazing book and I would recommend it to anyone who likes reading murder mystery.

Matthew Sanzo | 1 comments I’m currently readying the book "Why Do I Fight" by J. Adams Oaks. The main character has not given out his/her name so far but is describing him or herself. I’m thinking it’s a male. This character is direct because of the ways he’s just putting himself out there buy describing what he’s been through in his life and how he’s trying to overcome that problem. My opinion on this book so far is that it’s a really good book. “Don’t Call Me Kiddo!” this is the quote that I like about this book because I hate being called kiddo myself.

message 58: by Elijah (new)

Elijah S | 1 comments I am currently reading "The Knife of Never Letting Go" by Patrick Ness. One of the main characters so far is Todd Hewitt. He is a twelve year old boy that is longing to turn a man in 1 month. Todd is the only boy left in his village so he often times gets lonely and has lots of chores to do. "The first thing you realize when your dog learns to talk is that dogs don't got nothin much to say."(3) Todd's quote is significant because it foreshadows what you learn later on about the state of peoples minds in this book. The point that i am in in the book, Todd just got beat up by Aaron after being thrown out of the village by Ben and Cillian for a reason he’s not exactly sure about yet. So far this book is very interestingly written and I look forward to seeing how Todd fares away from the village or against the Spackle. The Knife of Never Letting GoThe Knife of Never Letting Go

Dominic M | 5 comments In my current book The Sea of Monsters, the main character is Percy Jackson. Who is young teen goddess of the sea; and unfortunately he is forced to go on journey’s that are life threating. But this time it got more personality when one of his friends is held as a prisoner, and has to save his life. “…Yet… my eyes felt heavy”. “But when I got below I found a hammock, it took me a long time to fall asleep”. “…Still…I didn’t dream about Grover…that night” (186). For a long time I haven’t slept yet when I have none of Grover in them. “ then I took two large wades of candle wax, kneaded them into earplugs, and stuffed my ears” (187). This sentence just like many others show you the reader how cleaver Percy is, and how almost nothing can stop him. Make it a hard book to put down wants you’ve started.

Sounds like you really enjoyed this book! The main character Skeeter reminds me of you in a way. Stating the fact that she is so tall and has curly hair. I also like the quotation you used to go along with her towering stature, it made the character seem like she had an interesting sense of humor. Overall, you make The Help sound like an excellent book. I believe I will add it on my to-read list.

Oscar Espino | 5 comments I am reading "The Crash" by Paul Kropp. One of the main characters in this story is named Ben he is 12 years old. He is the captain of a basketball team in his school."Big Ben was the real leader of our team"this quote just tells you that he is the captain of the team but he also is a good leader. The book is about Ben and his friends just finish a basketball game and they are going home in a school bus but a big storm is going on. On the way home they crash and they don't know what to do.I really like this book because I like how he writes the story like when they crash and only two people who can go for help and they are trying to stay alive. "Find a real house , with somebody who could help my friends but this time I'd be smarter" this quote shows that he really cares about saving his friends no matter what happens and thats why I like this quote.

Teens need learn that parents always knows what's best for their kids. Garrett thinks he knows how the system works, to just obey the leaders. Joe (the leader) knows Garrett hasn't learned anything. "Lake Harmony has your parents' consent to administer whatever punishment is deemed necessary." (30). Garrett is beaten for tring to pull a fast one on Joe. I really like this book. The book starts off a little slow. After awhile there's a lot of drama and action in the begininng. All the action and drama makes me want to find out what happens at the end.

Will | 2 comments I'm reading "Like We Care" by Tom Matthews One of the main characters is Joel Kasten. Joel is a junior in high school, and he is the star player of the baseball team. His jaw was shattered by a purposely bad thrown pitch. He is a smoker and is having troubles quitting. "Joel intended to fake it, particularly after that bitter inaugural puff, but found almost immediately that he stood cooler, walked tougher, snarled fiercer with a butt in his mouth."

Kate Bassuener | 2 comments My most recently read book “The girl who fell from the sky”, was truly a page turner especially when I found it was based on a true story. I felt an instant connection to the main character, Rachel Morse as she struggles to fit in and find her place amongst the student body at her new school.
Throughout the book Rachel struggles with her identity as a biracial child raised in Chicago, she doesn't always know where she fits in and others tease her because she's different and does not belong to any certain racial group. After a tragic accident involving Rachel, two other siblings and her mother, she is forced to live with her grandmother, who shows Rachel all the compassion as she would one of her own children, yet none of the patience or understanding that Rachel needs.
The girl who fell from the sky does not waste her time “crying or being tender” (10), instead she stuffs it into her “little blue bottle” this blue bottle contains hurtful comments and painful memories of Mor (her mother) and her abusive past life. Rachel believes this bottle will hold back all of the physical and emotional pain she experiences. “When something starts to feel like hurt, I put it in this imaginary bottle inside of me. It’s blue glass with a cork stopper.” (10) Little does rachel know, this bottle will not hold out forever and she will soon have to face the fearful past that her mother tried to protect her from. Rachel’s mother; Nella discovers she has made a huge mistake moving with her new husband a drinker who doesn't take his task seriously as a father. In order to protect her babies she feels the only suitable option is to “go as a family.”
Experiencing racism and hate early on by her own father made Rachel believe that her identity as half black, half white was something to be shunned but as time went on she realizes that exactly what she has been avoiding makes her who she is. “ I am Nella Floe’s daughter. Thats what makes me special - me.”(237) This is the statement I believe that finally lead her to overcome her confusion and helped her realize her bigger and brighter future that she and nobody else could write.

Jeffrey Hicks | 3 comments My most recently read book "Mockingjay" by Suzanne Collins is an amazing book that will keep you guessing right up until the very end. I felt a connection to Gale one of the main characters in the book right away. I think most of us can connect to Gale because we have all at least once have fallen for things that run away from us.

Gale is in love with the main character Katniss Everdeen. In the first Hunger Games Katniss goes in to the arena with another boy from her town named Peeta. At the Games Peeta tells Katniss that he loves her. And Katniss is unsure if she loves Gale, her long time friend, or Peeta, the boy who saved her life. In the end of "Mockingjay" we learn that Katniss grows up to marry Peeta. This is how I relate to Gale. I liked or had a "crush" on a girl before, then I found out that she liked someone else. Like Gale I was crushed "I don't understand, we've known each other for years. I've protected you, kept you from starving. Does all that mean nothing to you?" But of course that was a long time ago back when I was young and foolish; and like Gale I got over it. At the very end of the book when Katniss and Gale both have families of there own Gale says "I understand now why you chose Peeta over me." "Why is that?" "Becuase he was there for you when I couldn't have been. He kept you alive when I couldn't." I think this is Gale's final closure with the fact that Katniss is happiest with someone other then him.

Oscar Espino | 5 comments I am reading “the crash” by Paul kropp. The point of this book is about surviving a snowstorm and friend ship. “The choice was made – Rory and I would go for help” This quotation tells you that there going out in the snowstorm to search for help so they can help their friends but they are trying to survive the snow storm. “when you get really, you start to give up like that” This other quotation tells you that Rory couldn’t make it anymore but Craig told him to not give up because they weir almost there. This book shows that is about friends loving each other and they will help each other no matter what.

This book is set up with chapters, short sections, it doesn’t have any flashbacks, not of lots of space between paragraphs. The author chose to write it like this so we can read it better and understand it easier.

Kalen | 3 comments I am reading "skate" this book is about two friends that are fighting over a girl named veronica and then it ends with just him and his brother throughout the book the friends fight and the brother and him fight about mom and dad ever coming home and then one day there mom came home with another man and he was really rude to the main characters witch was Ian and Sammy there dad never came home then they found out he has died and they started living in back in the shed because of their moms boyfriend was rude and had no manners and it’s about two kids going to school and then out of school is the two brothers and their family and how there how there life is. So anyways through the whole book there was fighting arguing crying and madness it’s a good book if you like to read books about people’s lives and how their way different than yours and how bad things really are in this big world. The theme is there in a really bad neighborhood and bad school district and not living really good conditions and with all the fighting and drugs that are going around their house and neighborhoods around their house and there mom smokes weed and does cocaine and is a major drug addict.

Clayton | 3 comments As of the ending of fourth quarter draws closer, I have finished the "homelander's" series. The main charachter, Charlie West; is a strong teen, he is a junior in Highschool in the first book. The plot summarized is that Charlie wake up in a chair, he is strapped to it and has no idea how he got there, who was torturing him or why. *spoilers ahead* but by the end of the series you find that he was working for the CIA and had been captured, so to prevent from telling any government secrets away he swallowed a pill, erasing a year of his memory. Charlie is an all round patriot and by the end of the series, he stops a terrorist attack. Charlie always wears jeans and some T-shirt, he is also a black belt in karate. This proves to be far more than a little helpful as the story progresses.

Oscar Espino | 5 comments i am reading ''The Call of The Wild'' by Jack London the point of this book is about surviving and finding the way home. ''There was no peace, no rest-only continual noise and movement and every minute there was danger, because these dogs and men were not town dogs and men.'' this quotation give you kind of what is the story about and it also tells that is a lot of danger and they still have to survive the cold in the snow. ''the time had come, and buck knew that either he or Spitz must die''this other quotation tells you that he doesn't have a choice he must fight to stay alive he can not get away and even that buck was losing he didn't give up till he won.
this book shows that is about staying alive and finding the way home.
This book is set up with chapters, short sections, it doesn’t have any flashbacks, not of lots of space between paragraphs. The author chose to write it like this so we can understand how are things difficult and still made it out of it and to not give up and things.

this book is about going back home and surviving the danger.
This book is set up with chapters, short sections, it doesn’t have any flashbacks, not of lots of space between paragraphs. The author chose to write it like this so we can understand that it always is a way to come back and to show you that you can do it even that you think you can't.

Clayton | 3 comments I am currently reading Player's Ruse, which is the last and final installment of the series. I will be sharing information on the charachter "Fisk". Fisk is a rogue, and a great con man. he used to run burglaries and do other things, which he is not necessarily proud of. A quote that I came across from said charachter is "If that fails, I could try to steal the..." there are many quotes from Fisk just like this one. it is painfully obvious that he restrains himself from his old habits. The author wants to make this known, so they have brought up this topic more than once in each book. I very much like this series, and highly recommend it to therapy who enjoy a good adventure. I love the adventure based novels, and this series doesn't fail to please. there is however less violence, but when there is, it is not meaningless killing.

Katy P | 3 comments I just read A Piece of Cake by Cupcake Brown. This book was very different for me because it’s an autobiography which isn't a genre that I read very often. I was incredible amazed by this woman’s journey.

Cupcake was an ordinary girl, but the death of her mother changed her life forever. She and her brother were taken away from their dad by their biological father who then just put them into a foster home. Cupcake is abused and worked to the bone and decides to run away. She in fact runs away multiple times and starts doing drugs and drinking at twelve years old. As her story continues she talks about the people she met, jobs she did, and places she lived. Cupcake eventually decides that he can’t live like this anymore and now she is a very successful lawyer. Her story is incredible and I felt really bad for her as I read on. In my opinion it is a truly amazing story.

John Reinke | 2 comments I am currently reading Subject Seven by James A. Moore. The main character, Subject Seven, is a genetically altered 10 year-old boy who experiences the memories of someone called "The Other", perhaps an alternate identity. He apparently despises the memories of the Other, as in one quote from the book, "He shook his head and tried to force the memories away. They weren't his memories. They belonged to the Other. He hated the Other, hated everything about the one they loved and catered to. His heart pounded in his chest and he tried to calm down, but the anger was there, growing like a burning fire"(19-20). So far I really enjoy this book, because it hints at a conspiracy, and I usually enjoy conspiracy stories. One example of the conspiracy is a description of a secret compound: "The compound was a necessity for their experiments, and the subdivision was the perfect disguise. Ten houses with ten families, each one connected to the project. Ten little family units on top hid the facility the houses rested on, like a prison hidden under their homes"(15).

Katy P | 3 comments I am currently reading The Host by Stephenie Meyer. I love how the main character, Melanie, is strong enough to fight the alien that has taken control of her body. No matter how hard this Soul tries Melanie doesn't give in and she keeps fighting. Melanie along with other human beings who haven’t been taken over have to fight the ones that gave up to the Soul while trying to stay alive.
This book can relate to almost everyone because at one time or another we have all experienced an internal battle against ourselves. Melanie helps the reader understand that no matter what is going on inside of us whether it is physical or emotional we can get through it. With enough will power and strength even what seem to be the biggest most difficult obstacles can be overcome.
