Same edition, same ISBN, different format

I tried adding the eBook format of this paperback but Goodreads got cranky because the eBook (PDF/MOBI) has the same ISBN as the paperback; it's the same book, just a different format.

So I've added the eBook as a new edition without the ISBN but I don't think it's right - can someone tell me:

a) If adding a different format as a new edition is correct;

b) Why do I have to re-enter all the data and withhold the ISBN for the eBook format of the paperback?
