Tracey I didn't care for it either. I wanted to and for some reason felt bad for not liking it, like I didn't think their suffering was interesting enough? I don't know, the end result was that I finished the book feeling really meh about it.

Can you recommend me some good cancer books please? I would love to read them.

Leya (leyasofpaint) | 114 comments I think it's not like any other cancer book. It made me cry and laugh. I enjoyed the read :D

Sharlene (sharlenehuriwai) | 148 comments I read this for #boutofbooks readathon and while I didnt bawl my eyes out, I thought it was a lovely story.

I love this book, for two reasons:
1. John Green took on a really touchy subject, and in a way made fun of it, while still addressing the negatives. He made people more aware, but this made the book all the more better. Because I have read books in which the main character has cancer, and most of the time they end up doing the same thing. This book stood out and was original.
2. The humor in this book was absolutely original and is one of the reasons, I love the characters. The characters have this sense of death and maturity around them, but at the same time the humor creates and attachment to the characters and just makes you laugh.

Gabby | 58 comments I literally read this book in less than two days it was so good, I think the characters were well developed and they knew what was going to happen: they were most likely going to die of cancer, and for the most part Gus and Hazel both handled it way better than I would. I encourage everybody to read this book even if it is sad. :)

Well said. Couldn't agree with you more. :-)

Beckylynn311 | 2 comments I think-after reading comments in the beginning-giving this a happy ending wouldn't send the same message. One of the things I love about TFIOS is that it approached the subject with no cloud of rainbows or miracle drugs. It'S real.

Danielle Stengel (bookworm_77) | 117 comments I read this book very fast and I loved it! honestly it made me really think about things and realize how good I have things in life
I really fell in love with the characters and the love story that unfolds between Hazel and Augustus ♥

Sarah (sbrock36) | 47 comments I agree with others about the ending. It needed to be sad for the point to come across. I really enjoyed reading this book.

Christy (craftychristylovesbooks) | 30 comments This was my first "cancer" book, and while this is a sad, touchy subject, I loved that it made me laugh and cry. I loved Augustus! He was amazingly written. As a parent, this story made me worry. I could NOT imagine what the parents of sick children experience everyday. My daughter has eczema and I freak out! This book gives you a taste of real life. BUT!! I feel like Hazel felt about Ana and An Imperial Affliction, I want to know what happens to her, her parents, Gus's parents, Issac...

Tonya Powell | 22 comments I thought I would like the book a lot more than I did. I liked it just not as much as I hoped. I keep seeing the movie previews so I wanted to read the book before I go see the movie. I don't like to go see a movie before reading the book. The book was okay and I may read it again. To be honest I cried, I'd say, the last hundred pages. It was such a sad book and the ending was not what I expected.

Amber Payseno Amazing book.
Definitely read, if you like your heart to be ripped into a million pieces and then lit on fire and stomped on.
^^^ that's what happened to me :p

Seriously though, the book is amazing.

Tanaka K (tanaka_k) i loved this book but it was heartbreaking for me.i just wanted to cry.i was doing a 7 book challenge..reading 7 books in a week..it was my 5th book in my challenge..i read it and it got me in a mood i couldnt comprehend..i was so sad.

I read "The Fault in Our Stars" recently because a relative recommended it. I thoroughly enjoyed, and thought it very well-written. I was not moved to tears as had been promised, but I am sure that if I saw the movie I definitely would be. I liked the book enough that I have suggested it to a couple other people since I completed it. :)

Beth (jasonverlander) | 1223 comments The first time I read it I liked it but the second time I realized everything that I hated about it and had to rethink my rating. I still think it's too high. I don't like any of his books and I regret even reading them

Catharine (catharinalouisa) I loved The Fault in Our Stars - it made me take note and put some things into perspective. It made me feel grateful for what I have and where I am. Also, my best friend passed away from cancer when he was just 18, the book covered teen illness really well and truthfully.

Shi'Asia (kawaiiemotions) | 97 comments I liked this book and I really wanted to have some emotional attachment to the characters. I felt a bit distraught about these poor kids, but I couldn't get over how pretentious they were!

Cayt Landis (mithrril) I was prepared to love this book and to have a serious cry by the end but I really kinda hated it. I feel like I'm one of the few people in the world who didn't love it. I actively disliked it. It wasn't badly written but I just found it to be unrealistic and a bit pretentious. No person speaks like those characters. It was too witty, if that makes any sense. But everyone else in the world loves it so I'm willing to accept that I have a less than common opinion.

Hey you're not the only person who feels that way! By the way everyone was talking about it, I thought it would be really phenomenal, but I didn't really feel any emotions when I actually read the book, and didn't understand why everyone was going on so much about it.

I liked the book and it made me cry along with the movie. I enjoy things with not-so-happy endings because most people don't have the guts to kill one of their main characters.

Maggie the Muskoka Library Mouse (mcurry1990) I enjoyed this novel, but was mildly disappointed that it didn't match the hype around it. I read it upon recommendation by a couple of people, and they assured me I would love it. At best, I thought it was pretty good. I didn't cry like I was promised, and I found the story SO predictable. Not one I would recommend, I'm afraid.
