Beat that.

Meanwhile, pb's of W&M have drop'd to US$60+ship in 'acceptable' and 'good'. hd for US$76+ship in 'very good' and 'acceptable'.

Yeah, took me longer to find Plus from a reliable seller and had to pay more for it than Women and Men, got a gorgeous hardback though.

It's the only case in which I've been happy to settle for an ex-libris ; got it for about ten bucks. It's also twice the difficulty level in its reading, v. W&M.

btw, the Dalkey pb of W&M is now listed at amazon (three copies) for US$50+shipping. That's the lowest the pb has been since the price-spike of recent years.

message 408: by Nathan "N.R.", James Mayn (new)

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) | 662 comments both amazon and abe currently have several copies of W&M (both pb & hd) for approx US$50. If the condition is good enough for your needs, that's a rather really great price, given recent history. HOWever, who knows, it might drop another ten bucks in the coming months. (or just ask them to take that ten bucks off the price today!)

[n.b., the copy from Abracadabra Books is an ARC and there is no indication regarding it being two volumes]

Women and men $44 knopf 1st edition just popped up in my wants. Does not appear to be a former library book.

Nice. When did that happen? I thought Lookout Cartridge was way down the list for ebook treatment.

I'm thinking very recently ; first time I've seen it (despite the Sept date given by amazon). I think we were excepting these ebooks a year ago, so I'm guessing some release dates and priorities got reshuffled in the meantime. Pretty happy to see Lookout finally find its way back out.

message 413: by James (new)

James | 79 comments So....Women and Men and Letter Left to Me both show up under the Barnes and Noble website but with Thomas Berger covers. I'll follow up and see what they say. Could be a mistake.

message 414: by James (new)

James | 79 comments Ali wrote: "It is. When I downloaded Letter Left to me a few days ago I got a copy of Berger's Changeing the Past."
Thanks Ali. I had my suspicions. Have you contacted Dzanc? Lookout Cartridge looks like it might be legit. Shows up both in Kindle and Nook.

I impulsively bought this. Now I just need some time to read something. A change in my job and seven month old's sleeping habits have stolen my reading time for the past few months. I'll let you know if it's interesting marginalia or the scrawl of some poor deranged soul. Either way, I had a hard time passing up a $25 copy. It will match the rest of my ugly McElroy collection.

Also, for my own record keeping, who's still looking for a reasonably priced copy?

Excellent! Are you able to resist diving right in? That first chapter there you'll want to at least sample immediately, being new=father and all.

I know Findlay, Ohio. They reallyreally need a fellow citizen capable of reading Women & Men.

Based on my glacial progress on JR I'm thinking I should avoid that rabbit hole. It's so very tempting though.

message 435: by James (new)

James | 79 comments Matthew wrote: "when can see the ebook"
In not sure. There is one listed on either Kindle or Barnes and Noble that is actually a different book, so I'd wait till it gets announced here first.

message 436: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Cassidy | 22 comments yeah the website says spring 2015, so i'll wait.

message 437: by Nathan "N.R.", James Mayn (new)

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) | 662 comments Word from my source has it that the new edition of W&M is still in process. They're taking some time with the editing (getting all the t's crossed and i's dotted!), but is a priority for Dzanc. A print edition is in the works, but it may take a bit more time. Keep fingers crossed and ears to this here thread. I'll let you know when I hear anything more definite.

message 440: by Nathan "N.R.", James Mayn (new)

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) | 662 comments There's been a massive drop in prices for W&M this week (down from the previous hundred bucks).

The cheapest is at abe, for US$50.94 (free ship):
"Item Description: Knopf, 1987. Book Condition: Fair. 1st. N/A. Shows definite wear, and perhaps considerable marking on inside."
http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/BookD...

The rest at both amazon and abe are between $65-70.
http://www.abebooks.com/servlet/Searc...
http://www.amazon.com/gp/offer-listin...

Just be sure that the book's condition is adequate for your needs ; it's still kind of $$$ for a book.

Last I heard, though, is that Dzanc will have both an ebook and a paperback. I don't know anything about pricing, but likely (? --I'm only guessing) it will be in line with their other prices? No release date yet.

Yeah. Last word I had though leads me to think maybe by summer at the earliest.

message 443: by Nathan "N.R.", James Mayn (new)

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) | 662 comments I mean, I'll be happy to let the collectors go at it on abe and the First Edition Market -- that us ordinary readers will once again have W&M right there at our leisure. And I won't have to watch the market no more!!

message 444: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Cassidy | 22 comments yeah that goes against their "spring Release"

message 445: by Nathan "N.R.", James Mayn (new)

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) | 662 comments Okay. Right. Post #500 in this thread. Our efforts and wishes may be realized shortly. Joe's website is telling us that we'll have that 3rd edition of W&M (presumably both pb & e-) in "Spring 2015." See the new cover @
http://www.josephmcelroy.com/ (scroll down a tad).

Unfortunately, no further specifics at the moment.

message 446: by Matthew (new)

Matthew Cassidy | 22 comments It's been like that for a while now. I don't want to wait anymore.

Nathan "N.R." Gaddis (nathannrgaddis) | 662 comments Matthew wrote: "It's been like that for a while now. I don't want to wait anymore."

I thought something was familiar about it. I'm tired of waiting, too, and I don't even need a Dzanc edition!

message 448: by Jack (new)

Jack Waters (h2oetry) | 14 comments I asked Mr. McElroy on Twitter for an update and got a passive non-answer, but ananswer nonetheless.

Apparently W&M is very close and we can expect a new story about Citizens United soon in Fiction magazine.
