Our crazy SEVENTH GRADE TEACHER calls them sevies so now anyone in eighth grade tortures the sevies by treating them how the previous year's class treated the new eighth graders..

I entered high school as a girl who'd never been kissed, never partied, and valued honesty above all things. Since then I've done some stupid shit that I ain't too proud of, and I can honestly say that I was most better off before.

Your story sounds pretty much like mine before I got my happy end, so I can only give you one advice: Don't give up! It's going to get better someday.
You might not want to hear it, but having friends like that, who first hate you and then apologize to just hurt you again... they're not worth it. They don't deserve you, even if they're the only friends you know.
And this Alec... is he bipolar? No, maybe insane? (Not the nice and funny Matt-insane, but the "do we need to put him into a mental home" kind of insane) No no, wait, I know. He's just a dick. Don't give a shit about what he says and be careful around him, especially on that birthday party you mentioned.
And if you ever need to talk or just need to vent your anger - I think there are some people here on Goodreads who want to cheer you up. :)

On the mention of how jerks are popular:There are two types of popularity-
A) Perceived popularity: These are the assholes, the bitches, the dicks, the douchebags, the jerks, the jock,s etc.
They are popular because they are "perceived" as popular by the student body. They are also the ones with the sort of "social pyramid" where the biggest bitch is on top. Popularity is politics. Back-stabbing, tactical friending, and rumors are used to get followers.
Followers are like points. The more of them you have, the better you are. You can get more followers by:
-Tactical friending: "I know Ashley. She is like SOOO popular that I got bumped up a few notches."
-Destruction of Rivals: "OMG! Did you see Becky puking at Ricky's party? SOOOO uncool."
-Getting "more" popularity: "PROM QUEEN IS HAZEL!" Hazel: "OMG YAY! YOU ALL LOVE ME!"
-Dropping a Lower: "I'm sorry. You're just not cool enough. You wore plaid... that says enough. Goodbye."
B) "Nice" Popular.
These are the populars who became popular by being nice to ALL social groups. They usually drift among groups where they have a friend in each one and spread happiness and joy to all.
There is no social pyramid because these people support each other and build each other up.
People ACTUALLY like these people. Not the fake like to get popular with the "Perceived Populars".
The rarest type of popular.
I knew I wasn't the only one who thought in-depth about the ranks of populars.

I loved that book.
Although it needs a different title because it never tells you what happens to the six REAL people they use as examples and how they did in the world after high school.
That's what bothered me too. But otherwise the book was great!!!
