Also, it's been nearly 2 years since i used my shelfari account... was going to jump in and see if i could update and boom, dust.
I'm sure its been asked, painfully often, but is the data still available somewhere?
Thanks

Unfortunately, probably not. People actually were given advanced notice when Shelfari was closing and people had the opportunity to export their library. I think there was a way to automate moving everything over to GoodReads before Shelfari actually closed(a process that was usually incomplete or full of errors) but given that the website has been gone for quite awhile now, it's probably not possible.
I've learned the hard way in the past that for stuff like this, it's best not to have all your eggs in one basket because you never know when websites/apps will close down. I think it happened to me twice that I lost book tracking data on apps before I even found Shelfari. Right now I use GoodReads and Library thing for general cataloguing and FictFact and Worlds Without End for some more specialized stuff. I also have everything in an offline catalogue in Calibre, which is free software. Calibre is meant to manage ebooks, but you can add "empty entries" in order to store information on physical books too. Can add all sorts of custom fields to track everything like you would on any online book cataloguing site. I'm also currently trying to figure out how to use MS Access just to give myself yet another copy of my virtual library(Excel would probably be a bit unwieldy for this sort of thing).
I still really miss Shelfari though. It suited me much better than any other book site I've tried overall.

Hi, Joseph ... glad you've checked in.
While I think that Kythe42 is probably correct about your data being lost .... it doesn't hurt to ask. I'd suggest that you contact Goodreads directly at:
support (at) goodreads(dot)com
Be as specific as you can be about your Shelfari account (user name).
Good luck!

I think when Shelfari was still around, people had to contact Amazon support to get help with any problems. They usually weren't all that helpful, but if GoodReads support can't help, you could try Amazon as a last resort.

Hi, I remember you from when I was there. I was in the top 50 editors for a while. I'm glad you are able to make time for reading again.
I also miss Shelfari--it really was the best when it was still working properly.

I find neither easy to use like Shelfari. Very disappointing.

It's too bad Leafmarks went under. They were trying to incorporate some stuff that Shelfari had, such as nested conversations. I also liked the badges they had for reading achievements. I know it probably seems childish, but the badges would have motivated me to explore other genres if the site hadn't been so short lived. I'm trying to set up something similar with progress bars in excel to achieve the similar effect, even if no one but me will see it. All good reads has is the yearly reading challenge, which I did a few times in the past, but I didn't like the pressure it put on me and would rather stick to long term goals that aren't time limited.

I forgot all about the badges over on Leafmarks. I thought that was a nice site.

Hi, starwolvie! I remember your username from shelfari! Glad you're joining us. Good luck getting in more reading time!
